    Default Wisdom teeth removal?

So I went to the dentist for a toothache, and she recommended I get 2 wisdom teeth removed.

I start school in about a week, so I wanted to get it done soon...and so I'm scheduled for Friday.

Ugh...my best friend's bachlorette party is Saturday, and I'm afraid I'll have to miss it.

Anyone who had their wisdom teeth removed, how was the recovery for you? Were you up to any activity the next day?

Oh lordy....I was literally down for a week and a half after having mine removed. But I had all four taken out at the same time, plus they were impacted, plus the stupid oral surgeon broke off one of them inside my gum and had to go digging for it. I cannot come up with a word to describe the level of pain I was in, and I have a pretty high pain tolerance.

I know some people who didn't have any trouble at all, and mine is honestly the worst I've ever heard (I couldn't eat anything more solid than fish for a month afterwards), but I can't imagine that you would be up for partying the next day.

I guess it really just depends? Are they impacted or already grown in? If they are impacted it will make it a lot worse.

mine were grown out... and i felt a tiny bit of pain after the gas they gave me wore off. i took no meds i was prescribed, and i slept on a memeory foam pillow to help with the pain on my jaw. besides that... i can honestly say i was up the next day wanting to shop, go out to eat (although i couldn't!) and all that.

the pain i went through with them in my mouth was so much worse than the recovery pain.

If you do go out, no drinking through a straw, no smoking and drink LOTS of water. The last thing you want to do is get dehydrated or give yourself dry socket.

The surgery itself was a breeze for me. I had GA and LOVED it. (all four out, all 4 impacted) However a couple days after surgery, I got dry socket and was seriously ill from the combo of drugs I was taking to get through the pain. I couldn't get back in to the dentist until Tuesday and the pain was bad by Saturday. I went out Saturday night and wish I hadn't.

I say don't plan on going anywhere Saturday. I was throwing up for days, but I had a bad experience. I couldn't even get up long enough to shower for three days. One good thing about it, I lost 7 pounds and never gained it back. Guess it was water weight...
Steak n Shake became my favorite restaurant, because that's all I could eat for a week or two - shakes.

I had all four removed... Wouldn't say it was too bad. Has my appointment at like 2:00 pm, went home and slept till about 11 the next day. Then, I was fine. Looked a little swollen the next 2 days but was still at school and work no problem.

I had all four removed too, it was little painful thank goodness for the vicodin they gave me. I was not too badly swollen but i wouldn't say that i was up to being up and about the next day. Everyone is different though, my hubby had 2 taken out and he ended up with a drained socket or something and was also allergic to the vicodin he ended up in the er, But then again we all know men are pussies when it comes to pain. I agree with cinammonkisses if you don't want to miss the bachlorette maybe you should consider rescheduling.

My experience was fine. This was many years ago, but I remember pretty clearly. I was "put out" for the procedure, and given Vicodin for the pain afterwards.

I took it easy for about 2 days, had my Mom take care of me (bringing me snacks and ice, etc). I had no issues with the pain meds, just eat something small first (like applesauce). REST. Don't overdo it or push yourself, and you'll be fine in no time.

You'll be out of commission the rest of the day after getting them pulled and likely the day after, what I mean by that is you'll be drowsy the first day from the anesthesia, bleeding a bit and you'll be uncomfortable. Your pain level of course is relative to your threshold and what pain med they give you. I stopped my pain meds the third day because they were making me a lot more tired then I needed to be and Ibuprofen worked just as well. You'll be swollen and uncomfortable for a few days but as long as you keep taking the Ibuprofen and taking care of your incision wounds you'll be fine.

I was absolutely out of it for about 2 days afterwards; T3's have a MAJOR affect on me! I had to get 4 wisdom teeth out, and they had to cut up my gums to get at them, so yeah 2 days of NOTHING at all. Until about a week later I was still in pain and didn't want to eat solid food!

Oh, and I accidentally mixed my T3 with extra strength advil and an energy drink. long story, but very very bad idea.

Boooo! SO not looking forward to this.

Well, I decided to push the appointment till Tuesday, because I just can't miss my friend's bridal shower/bachlorette.

My mouth really hurts, so I'll pack down the Advil until my surgery on Tuesday.

    Thanks for the input girls!

I went shopping straight afterwards LOL. However I must clarify I only had the top two removed and they are no biggie.

I think pushing the appointment back is a good idea. In addition to the Advil, can you try using an oral numbing agent? I don't know how well it would work, but it might be worth a shot?

I hope the procedure and recovery is an easy one for you. It's a crappy thing to have to deal with, but you'll feel much better when it is all over and done with.

You'll do fine, i'm glad you decided to push the date back so you won't have to miss out on your friends special day. By the way i would take alieve instead of the advil for the pain in my opinion it works much better. GOOD LUCK and let us know how it goes.

    please update this.

I went in for removal of the top two teeth yesterday and had a very bad reaction to the epinephrine in the numbing injections. He told me I need to be put under for the procedure as I have a low pain threshold and I was freaking out. I guess you can ask for the injection without it. I don't NEED to have them removed, but wanted to under his guidance, but I am terrified.

I had two wisdom teeth pulled when I was 18. I didn't feel like doing anything for a couple of days after. That was probably cause of the meds, though. Oh, and the big swollen face kept me from going out (I was only 18, what can I say!).

The actual procedure is not at all as bad as you would think. I was put out and it felt like 5 minutes later I was woken up with it done. I was only down for the rest of that day and the next, and by day 3 I went to Cali on vacation and was already eating food (slowly but eating none theless.)
I was kinda chubby in the mouth for about a week but I was definately functional after a couple days. I only needed the pain meds the rest of that day and the next.

I have had two impacted ones out so far (as emergency procedure, need to get the other side out still), in the chair, local anesthetic, worst experience of my life. Including child birth. Fuck me, the pain before hand from infected teeth, the discomfort of having him dig the fuckers out, and the pain omg the PAIN afterwards was EXCRUCIATING, mind you I was breastfeeding and couldnt take anything strong, my dentist told me to take a cpl of paracetamol tablets. fuck him up the arse with an iron dildo, he could have given me some codeine and warnings to use it AFTER breastfeeding. I was in hell.

I have a very high pain threshold to.

Um but to be supportive, it only took about 15 minutes to do, and I am sure if you had decent pain relief you will be fine...

Ooof! I had mine removed during winter break my jr. year. Really. the anesthesia is what really put me out for a while. The teeth was unpleasant but you just have to be conscious of not pulling yr stitches. Good luck and stock up on good, dumb tv

No sweat with mine. I had the first one pulled because it was dead and hollow; it broke apart as he pulled it, but he got all the pieces. I spat blood for a few hours, went for a long walk around Hollywood that night, and lived on applesauce and milkshakes for about two days. The second one was directly under that one; it died because it wasn't hitting against anything, and it abcessed so that half my face and neck were swollen. They pulled that with no trouble and that night I enjoyed a delicious chicken dinner with all my favorite veggies at my mom's house (chewing on the other side of my mouth). Within 24 hours the swelling was all gone.

I never needed any painkillers. The extractions were uncomfortable but not what I would call painful at all (I was numbed with shots in my gums). Afterward there was a dull ache for a few hours but it wasn't anything that interfered with my life.
