Default BrodieLux got me thinking (psychics)

So, I read her post & got me thinking about psychics and that such... I've always wanted to go to a palm reader or just plain psychic... Has anyone else & how was the experience? Did you enjoy it? Did you find it false or awing/real??? Also, if you went, how did you pick that psychic?

don't do it unless you are searching for answers to a spcific question and have done your research. Most of the plam readers tell you stuff you about that you already know, so it's not really helpful.

There are so many phonies. I used to work as a psychic on a hotline.

    Need I say more?

I think being psychic is no different than feeling empathy and intuition. Anything else is totally blown up, and maybe there to make money.
A civilian spends money to look good
A stripper looks good to make money
A civilian may be after your wage
A stripper laughs at your wage

I saw a psychic once! I went with my best friend and I think she was just good at reading what was on our faces, or how we reacted to things.
She told me I was a very family motivated person, and that if I had recently started dating someone (which I had) not to bother, because I would get more involved in it than I should and end up hurt. That was true, but I think it's easy to assume that when you're talking to an 18-year-old girl.
    It was fun, though!

    Agree to the above posts.

There was one psychic who I thought was talented, UNTIL she asked me to give her 300 dollars to "cleanse the negative energy around me." That's when I ran like hell, lol. I then realized that all the things she said about my past could apply to anybody, BUT it's just that I fell for it at first b/c these people are talented at convincing the customers that want to believe.

The ones who did make predictions in the future for me didn't come true.......They told me that I was going to marry this one guy and that he was my soulmate, and then he decided not to even date me haha. When I told this psychic what happened, she goes "Oh don't worry hunny..he will change his mind and call you back in a few weeks."

    Still never happened, ha.

I have a clarivoyant friend that I speak to every 2-3 weeks. Her advice is so helpful I don't mind paying for it, I consider it treasured counsel.

Since we've been communicating so long, our conversations often turn into long chats about everything. So it's a combination of clarivoyant advice and her own opinion, which I respect since we have some similarities in our lives.

I will say many people have the capacity for insight into their own lives and futures, but humans are fallible, frail creatures and often we don't wish to make the better decisions for ourselves because we're chasing a temporary happiness/ ("high") or we just can't bear to embrace ugly truths (resisting pain.)

Agreed. I do believe there are some REAL psychics, but every other joe you get on the hotline is most likely a fake. There are articles on the net that talk about phone hotlines that hire actors or people that are good at selling...

If you pay attention to your own intuition/gut instinct, you could have figured the same thing out yourself without having to pay 3.99 per minute.

    I had my palm read at a festival once - I have had teacup readings and all kinds of other stuff but this one THIS ONE I remember to this day - because;

you will break up with your current beau who is a leo (true) the next man will be a gemini and it will be a great match (true - ten yrs true in fact) because you are a pisces (true) and need to interact with those that understand the duality of signs - in fact you will always know this man whether in a relationship or not - also true - and every seriously close relationship u will ever have will be gemini ( my daughter too- who happened like 15 years later- and her father who I might add was not the first gemini mentioned here either)

I never told him my birthday I never said I was in a relationship or anything he just nailed everything. There was a buncha other stuff too but too much triviality to go into here....

    ANYWAY ---------

I do believe there is SOME talent or skill out there but I bet the scams outweigh the real ones.

Never explain yourself to anyone, because the person who likes you doesn't need it and the person that dislikes you won't believe it.

^^ Wow, Leigh... SEE, that's what I wish I could just run into. That would be awesome. And, I was told (don't know how accurate) not to ever give any information & just let them "read" you.

There are a few of these types around....It's too bad the fakes ruin it for them.

I have to also say that some people with real ability hide it- often people are angry at them for telling them things they don't want to listen to....(Why do you think "witches" were burned in the Middle Ages?)

I think psychic ability and the desire to capitalize upon it are different things. There are good psychics that charge money for their services, some that are excessively greedy, and then good psychics who see their craft as something they contribute to humanity. Then there are the psychic hotline folks. Lol. It's the luck of the draw as to who one encounters.

A good psychic who is not out to exhort money will empower people to live their own lives, to use their judgment before applying any advice learned in the reading to their situations. Greedy psychics want people to return all the time, and therefore convince them that they "need" the psychic input to avoid disaster. There's the infamous "curse" or "negative cloud" that one can remove for 300 bucks scheme. A psychic can be an occasional guide, but not the pilot. Also, my personal tradition believes that everyone is "psychic" or intuitive to some extent. For that reason, tarot cards can be great tools for defining and understanding one's own personal symbolism. It's a self-reflection tool in the scientific sense.

The witch hunts of the Middle Ages were mostly politically (and often economically)-motivated crusades that operated under the guise of religion. The attack against various scapegoated people was almost formulaic: they were accused of being heretics, worshiping the devil, performing unclean sexual acts with one another and/or demons, consorting with the devil, sacrificing children and babies, using the eucharist as an implement for black magic, and so on. It wasn't so much that people feared "psychic" ability, but that such an accusation was a powerful weapon against a person or group of people. It often had little basis in reality.
