Default I want to be fair

I hate asking for advice on this because it is a SW member but they only have 25 posts so I hope they don't see this! Here is the story, please advise:

-SW member posts they have an auction for books and stripper wear on Ebay.
-I email seller in UK and ask what is shipping to Canada. I am told it is 8.5 GBP for each auction.
-The clothes are a huge hit and the books are not. I bid a little bit higher on the clothes than I normally would have because I looked at getting the books and clothes as a package deal. I won the the clothes auction for 49.00 GBP and the books for only 0.99 GBP. To me it is totally worth about $140 Canadian for the clothes and books.

    Today I got this message:

"hey not sure if you're getting this message twice because my laptop just died on me! went to the post ofice today and the clothes and books together were gonna cost almost £50 to post. outrageous! i think it might be better to refund you for the books and just send the clthes by themselves? i'm sorry, i guess i should have checked the weight. hope that's ok with you "

The thing is I basically get refunded 9.50 GBP of the 67.00 GBP I paid and I'm only getting half what I won.

I want to be fair and I feel really bad that the shipping came to 50.00 GBP and I don't want to be a bitch.......

    advice please??

I would ask for a full refund and just cancel the entire transaction, if you don't get everything that you won in the auction.

Thanks girls. I really wanted all the items and so I think I will offer to send 20 GBP more and if that doesn't suit her, a refund for both auctions.

    I think that sounds fair?

    Hey,

I'm sorry to hear shipping is so high. I actually really want the books and the clothes. I bid higher on the clothes because of the savings I anticipated from the books. How about a compromise? I'll send you 20 GBP more to help defray the shipping costs. If that doesn't suit you, if you could refund both auctions that would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Emily

When I save money on one thing it usually means I have a little bit extra to splurge. I don't have a lot of experience with Ebay and I thought that as long as the item has no reserve, it's yours when it's won.

Hey, if you DO end up buying the stuff, watch out for Customs. I don't know about Customs between BG and Canada, but I once bought a guitar autographed by the Edge from a guy in Australia for $450, then ended up paying another $300 to customs. If it had been a gift, it would have been hundreds of dollars less, but he marked that it was a purchase. Ouch!

Thanks! I will ask the person to mark it as a gift.
