    Default No Flour, No Sugar

I know a few people who've lost weight and kept it off, by eliminating flour and added sugar from their diets. Supposedly it's really simple - no flour, no sugar. My uncle lost quite a bit of weight this way. You can have flour and sugar again once the weight comes off; if you start to gain again, just cut out flour and sugar again.

I've flirted with doing this in the past, but with my wedding coming up and me trapped at a desk all day with no way to exercise, I'm finally doing it. I said no to the bagels and biscuits this morning, and went to Whole Foods for a huge hearty salad for breakfast instead. For lunch I'll have soup and salad, and for dinner, eggplant parmesan with no pasta or breading, or a grilled cheese sandwich with the flourless whole-grain bread I bought yesterday. I really hope this works. Anyone want to try it with me?

I'm not much for sweets, but the no flour thing is going to be a huge lifestyle adjustment for me since I pretty much live on bread. But I NEED to lose 10-15 pounds in the next 10 weeks. So fingers crossed that this works!

By cutting out the majority bread, pasta and refined sugar from your diet you are almost sure to lose weight...and I think it is healthy... as long as you do it the right way. I've lost almost 20 pounds since April and have kept it off. Like you said...you can start adding things back in later. My big treats now are low carb tortillas, plain oatmeal, sweet potatoes, and the occasional piece of sugar free candy. There are a ton of sugar free products out there...I use them...but in moderation. I also do a lot of baking with flaxseed meal and almond flour vs using regular flour. Don't forget to exercise too . Good luck!!

I don't eat much refined sugar or refined flour anyway. The biggest adjustment here is that I won't even be eating whole wheat flour. Fortunately I'm keeping all my whole grains (eating a rich barley soup right now), but cutting out whole-wheat pasta and whole-wheat bread is still a lifestyle shift. No sugar, eh, not that big a shift. I don't do artificial sweeteners though, so I'll have to stick with fruit and maybe a little honey if I get a sweet tooth. Which is fine. I'm just dreading two months with no whole-wheat pasta!

I don't eat flower or sugar, and have been surprised by how sweet things like broccoli, celery, and some types of nuts taste! I've become addicted to shiratake and kelp noodles. I made a mock pad thai the other night. The shiratake noodles have 40 calories per bag, 12 carbs (8 of them fiber), and are made from tofu and yam paste (the kind I purchased). Adding those to a stir-fry or soup is really filling and yummy.

Girl, you are a good one for giving up bread..I love it!!! I'm going to make a strong attempt to give up breads/flours/milk. Milk won't be to hard (I usually only use it in cereal) But cheese is another story.

Good luck Yek..long hair AND you'll be 10lbs lighter!!!

Also, if you're cutting out sugar period, make sure and read labels. When I had to go on an anti candida diet, I was amazed at how many things have hidden sugar in them. (ketchup, bread, condiments, etc). Good luck!

I've cut flour and sugar out of my diet and feel better most of the time. Every now and then I get the urge to lick the door of the ice cream cooler in the store but other than that, no major problems. I have learned to read alot of labels to make sure I know what I'm eating though.

Thanks, y'all. I'm not too concerned about hidden ingredients since I very rarely eat packaged food, and when I do I already read the label for unfamiliar chemicals, artificial sweeteners, and high-fructose corn syrup (none of which I will eat). I've cut all such non-foods out of my diet for the past couple of years and it's made a world of difference already. I'm just trying to ditch one more dress size before my wedding! G-d, I hope I can do it. I don't want to be a chunky flabby bride.

I don't eat flour or refined sugar... Except for one cheat day a week. Have been doing it for years, always have a flat tummy!

If that's your tummy in your avatar and it comes from this diet, then by all means consider me motivated! I want a tummy like that!

He has a syndicated column in the newspaper. People write in with medical questions and he answers them, like Dear Abby did with advice. He's been running that column for at least 30 years, maybe longer, and he's been promoting this for years as the quickest, healthiest way to weight loss (of course when combined with exercise).

Yeah, it's older relatives I know who've done it. But it really worked for them, so why not try it?

I know! I think it's easier since I'm 200 miles from my bread machine, LOL! I miss baking bread already. I did get some flourless bread from Trader Joe's and it looks pretty good, so hopefully I can still have sandwiches and fool myself into thinking I'm still eating normally.

I did that right before I started college and lost a ton of weight. You'll be surprised at how easy it is once you actually get into it. Once you get over day 3 or so you are good to go.

I don't eat flour or sugar. I do eat sprouted grain tortillas occasionally though... does that count? I dont think it does, since the grains aren't made into flour and they're sprouted. I do eat agave nectar and stevia occasionally for sweetening... but everything else is naturally sweet. I've noticed I'm never bloated anymore now that I've been eating this way.
