Default Dreams of the deceased...as if they were really there....had one? I did.

I had the most amazing dream and I've been thinking about it a lot lately....In my dream I woke up (in my actual house) and walked into the family room to watch tv. My grandma was sitting on the couch, wearing her purple paints and her paisley print oarnge and purple shirt like she did in real life. I became afraid and was like, "Gramma what are you doing hear? Youre DEAD!" She started laughing and said, "I know! Its so funny! (she had the best sense of humor in life) Come on lets talk." We sat on the couch and had a very in depth conversation about life, how I regretted moving away before she passed, etc. She told me a ton of stuff only she could have known, and everything in the dream was realistic...I mean, what she was wearing right down to the bobby pins in her hair. The tears in my couch from my dog, etc. I felt a real sense of peace from this dream, and I really believe it was her coming through to talk to me in my dream. It was a few months ago but I recall every word she said. i have never had such a dream before.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

she was probably visiting you. I get dreams like that sometimes with various members of my family that have passed. They're really nice and reassuring.

Thank you Keira! Thats what my aunt told me on facebook today. I think she was visting me too. Ive been reluctant to tell people so they dont think I'm bonkers but I really think that. My memory of that dream was no different than a memory I have of say, going to the mall yesterday. Like it really happened.

because it did! If you get more in tune with your dreams and focus on what you want to experience, you will have those types of dreams more often. Research lucid dreaming and astral projection- it's fascinating

I dream about my mom and Nana a lot. They've both been gone a while.

Last February I dreamt of one of my most beloved late mentors...The REASON I did is that I was on the phone with my friend M. who was at O'Hare Airport in Chicago and we were laughing hysterically on the phone (O'Hare is not the most desirable place to be stranded at...) Well, my mentor went to college in Chicago and always wanted to move back there but never did. I took a nap after getting off of the phone with M. & dreamt of my late friend.

Maybe it was just a regular dream, or maybe not.....In the dream we were talking, he was talking about his grandkids. During one moment in the dream, someone asked me who I was talking to....I said, "He's right here!" I guess only I could see him.

So maybe I just dreamt of him because I was discussing his beloved Chicago. Or not. I dream of him whenever I'm tired and ill and I wake up feeling happy.

I didn't want to add this because it sounds weird, but I think I summoned my mentor's spirit by chain smoking. I was really stressed out one day and smoked so much the house was all smoky. Then I went to bed. I dreamt he gave me a hug (it was one of those need-a-hug times).....He was a lifelong smoker (he was from the generation where smoking was cool and manly.) I jokingly thought I summoned him with the huge cloud of smoke.

Skeptics might write this all off as power of thinking, but I feel for myself that it's possible to gain great insight and peace from dreams like that.....

Yep, I have dreams about my deceased mother pretty frequently. And she is alive and well in them.

No thats really cool. I saw a show on PBS about this haunted hotel. Anyway I maid in the hotel frequently saw a ghost there, and he smoked a pipe always. She fell asleep in her car on her way home from work and there was the reeking smell of pipe smoke in her car. Everybody thinks he woke her up after she fell asleep so she wouldnt crash her car.

I've had a couple that were very very real. You are definitely not alone, and I like the idea that it's them visiting.

I had a great dream a few years ago where my poodle (who has been dead for about 8 years now) told me he loved me and I gave him a good life. I felt so peaceful about it the next day.

What timing, though my mom died nearly 3 years ago I don't remember having a dream like this until a day ago or so.

I should have been scary as hell the way the dream happened. There was a sudden surprise important ceremony on an airplane or something. Even though I knew it had been a while and seemed sort of wrong and not at all my idea of the right kind of ceremony, when suddenly I saw my mom lying there I was well of course we have to do this, 3 years later or not. Even though they were getting all religious and stuffy and stupid about it I knew I had to follow the rules. I just remained calm and quiet and respectful but didn't pray or whatever (neither of us were into that shit), and just looked at her lying there--and suddenly she sat up in the coffin and started talking to me! But I was just glad to see her and talk to her. Instead of being creepy or scary it was totally wonderful to see her alive.

My brother died when he was 23 and I was 19. It was a freak accident so the feeling that he was robbed (and so was I of course as I missed him) was very strong.

For years afterwards I would constantly have vivid dreams where I would run into him completely by accident on the street and be totally shocked, and of course usually really fucking happy. Usually he would explain that it was all a big misunderstanding, it was actually someone else who got sucked into the dam, it never actually happened, etc. Many variations but same basic concept.

Once in a while, especially at first after it happened, it would occur to me that it was of course impossible and I would be so traumatized, sometimes waking up crying or wailing out loud in anger and loss and feeling betrayed by fate--again.

Far more often, especially as time went on, it was a mellow, peaceful soothing thing. I was so happy he had been alive and doing well all those years, and of course really glad to see him.

Another, darker kind of dream about him sometimes. He used to kick my ass being 3 1/2 years older and big for his age and athletic, also severely dyslexic so jealous of my advanced reading etc. I was tiny for my age and hated sports, so no contest. Being a kid he could be cruel about it, to say the least. Naturally there was some rage leftover in my mind.

By the time he died I had almost caught up in size and strength, but of course we course we didn't fight anymore. Now I could take on 3-4 of him I suspect (sorry but it's true, he was already declining physically at 23 and I never quit getting better). Getting on with it, though...

Once in a while for maybe 10-15 years after he died there would be a dream 'rematch'. I would always laugh and say "payback time motherfucker!" But of course I would lose anyway, lol! Then as time went on I would win once in a while, then more often--then those dreams stopped.

I am pretty sure I have dreamed both kinds since then, and probably about my mom as well, but most dreams are lost forever as they take place during the earlier sleep cycles in a night, at 90 minutes roughly there are 5 of them usually, and even waking dreams are lost quickly unless they are really unusual or you think about them or wake up in a leisurely way instead of getting ready for work or whatever.

I was with my boyfriend for 3.5 years. He died when I was 20. I get dreams of him every few years. Usually he tells me that he is keeping his promise that he'd never leave me. He's also told me that he wants me to find someone who will make me happy. In the dreams, he just looks and feels so real. I hear his voice, it's so crystal clear.

I was NEVER one to believe in spirits and things going up. But, when he died (a couple days before his funeral) I sat down in his room (which was the basement) alone and I just sat and cried and yelled telling him, "you promised we'd get married and be together forever" Well, I guess he felt bad about that, so he cut the CD player on. Yup, it started playing BUT there was no CD in there...I just looked up..saw it running (you could hear it spinning on the inside of the machine) and I just cried harder and harder...

I have more experiences w/ him..but I dont wanna fill your thread with it all.

I still miss him, and part of my life drastically changed (alot of times I feel like for the worst) without him. I still love him very much, and I miss him every day still.

Ok, same boyfriend. After he died, I tried dating again. I remember being in my dormroom w/ this guy I was dating. He tried getting rough with me..and I was telling him no! He just would not give up.

Anyway, all of a sudden, MY ENTIRE room just smelled like curve cologne (my boyfriends Favorite) had just sprayed the entire bottle in my tiny room. I literally pushed this dude off of me and said, "umm do you smell that" he's like, "yea it smells like curve"

So yea, my baby was definately with me..couldn't physically kick the guys ass, but he got him off of me!

Yeah, a dead childhood friend, a dead parent. Whether one or both of them were visits from beyond or products of my inner creativity, I cannot say, but they were sure nice and comforting dreams to have.

My mom saw her dad this way shortly after he passed on. She describes it as being actually awake though , very early in the morning , she's not really religious and is dead on truthful , so I believe her . The woman who owned his home after him also reported seeing him wandering around the property months later.

A friends mother has had people come to her in her dreams too - not directly after they pass on, but they come a few weeks later.

I definitely beleive that there is some sort of real communication going on with these things.

I don't remember the specifics anymore, but I remember after my "uncle" Gar died, he visited me in my dreams after his funeral. It felt very real, and all I remember still is that he was very happy and healthy, which makes me relieved because he died being very sick and in pain.

Oh wow I forgot--I still have dreams sometimes about my last kitty that was exclusively mine, ten years after she died. I really, really miss her, and it's usually so cool to see her again! But sometimes they are nightmares and she is sick or suffering, I hate that. She ran away/jumped out of the car at a very advanced age and wouldn't come out of the overgrown field and I never got her back which has always really bothered me--they tell me she was ready to die but I hate to think she might have suffered even though I went back every day for more than a week and kept trying, put food everywhere, etc.

I wish I could say I had dreams that nice about my friend/family that have passed. There have been about 10 in the last year, and I still have pretty bad nightmares about 3 of them, but when Im awake I know my grandfather still hangs out around my apartment. I can usually tell because my dog (who was his best friend, he was so bummed when I moved out and brought her with me) will act all funny and just stare at something and refuse to move, and then when I walk over to check it out, it seems like whatever it was goes thru the wall, she will run up to the wall to try and chase him.

I used to dream my pets would come back to life the day after I buried them (NO, not like "Pet Cementery") in the dreams I would be thrilled they were healthy and alive.

I wrote it off as childlike wishful thinking....But now that I understand life as an adult, I think it was a small way of understanding some parts of existence are eternal.
