    Default No Smoking

I can not get over the fact that you are not allowed to have a smoke while at a stripclub. I never was a big smoker, about 2 packs a month. When I was out at the clubs I used to cut loose and smoke as much as I pleased. I was almost the same way, to a point, about spending my money. Now the whole enviroment has changed. I enjoyed the smell of a smoke filled club or bar way more than lighting one up myself, and now it's all gone. How are you dancers in non-smoking clubs getting along with, or adapting to the new laws? Have your regular customers seem to become less free-spending?

I guess I'm behind the curve on this topic, but it's new to me, and it sucks. Anyway I'm always trying to get around the system that gets to have It's cake and eat it too.

You mean the system that prevents people who work in that climate and are forced to breathe that air from getting lung cancer?

By the time they do away with smoking in bars in Indiana, I'll already have emphysema and lung cancer from all the secondhand smoke I've inhaled over the years. Boo to your smoking freedom, what about OUR freedom to fucking breathe?

I'm quitting smoking and don't go to bars anymore so I could care less about being able to smoke or not at bars. With that said I've always thought there are 2 places people shouldn't be told they can't smoke outdoors and bars. I used to think about customers who didn't smoke but had to deal with 2nd smoke and decided dealing with smoke went along with being at a bar. It's not like a bar's a haven for health why not go balls out

I enjoy the freedom of not being forced to breathe someone else's smoke and going home with clothes that stink. If the smokers could keep their expression of freedom confined just to themselves, I wouldn't have a problem, but they share it with those who are averse to it. So naturally, in our contest for freedoms, I prefer mine.

Well said Jay. I would be kinder to smokers if the vast majority of them didn't litter the world with their butts.

Living and working in a city that recently (and unsuccessfully) has repeatedly tried to enforce a smoking ban, I often wonder if this would affect the money I made.

I could see it not really making a difference in a bigger city but I live in blue collar city with an older population that is very set in their ways.

Personally, it would be very refreshing not to come home at night with hair that reeks of smoke and bleary, watering, bloodshot eyes.

I doubt they have. Many of them are non-smokers. And the ones who are smokers usually are allowed to just go outside when they have a nic-fit.

Smoke free has only caught on locally in my state. Having been to a few smoke free clubs elsewhere, its a welcome change of pace not to come out smelling like an ashtray.

The smoke was so disgusting that i had to quite going for a while. Then the no smoking laws went in all over the state and I went back. The smoker girls, almost all of them, at first resisted it and got mgt angry, then they took the hint and smoked outside in decent weather (don't know about dressing rooms). Now they have acclimated and many have stopped smoking.

There is nothing good about smoking and a lot bad, so why don't you stop too?

I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

Ok, Jay I'm not being antagonistic, but when you have to keep freedom of experssion confined to just to yourself ,, that's not freedom.. People of similar lifestyles and habits should be able to meet together and enjoy the time. Non-smokers who are offended by a smokers lifestyle, ask them to leave your house or go outside. I just felt that some places should be considered choices where we could live unhealthy. Sorry for the others who enjoy healthy stuff, just my only stupid belief...

^ enjoy healthy stuff? well, what about the DANCERS? ignore the customers' perspective and look at it from ours. we're supposed to be active and healthy etc.. basically work out quite a bit at work.. and we're supposed to be superwomen who do it in a room full of thick smoke?

i'd like to think that dancers should take an interest in their health. not to say that they all do but, uh, shouldnt you be most interested in those who do?

Oregon changes over January 1st and I can't wait. A lot of clubs are building patios for the smokers, too. I don't understand why people are upset over it. It takes what, five minutes to smoke a cigarette? You can handle going outside for a moment or shortening your visit I think if you "need" one THAT BAD.

Honestly, if it weren't changing I'd probably quit dancing much sooner or find a rare club that doesn't have smoking. Smoke would also be the only thing that would keep me from dancing (a little) pregnant.

Can't wait to be able to come home with my hair still fresh and my face not broken out and breathing clear. Even if it does hurt money for a bit I'm still looking forward to it.

Just to play the devil's advocate here - There is no documentation of second-hand smoking being harmful. Second-hand smoking leading to lung cancer or any other illness is pure speculation As for freedom of expression, rules like that are a step backward. With no evidence of harmful effects on second-hand smokers, theres no good reason to limit it and quite frankly its a violation of the constitution. Not that anyone cares - USA are losing constitutional rights all the time to preserve peoples feelings and comfort.

That said, I think its unpleasant to inhale the stuff all night at work so for me personally, that particular law is a good thing

    A valid approach.

Not according to , specialists in respiratory ailments. However, I don't need researchers to intuit that if the same crap that makes smokers sick is being blown into my breathing space, it's not good for me, either.

There's no constitutional right to smoke. If there is, I'd like to see the cite.

Now, there is a common-law principle that says, more or less, "Your right to freely swing your arm stops at the beginning of my nose." From that standpoint, antismoking laws are a step forward for traditional values, since smokers share their health and olfactory blight with me, which I do not consider fair or to be a "natural" right for them.

Oh come on. My mother has never smoked in her LIFE, never lived anywhere with heavy smog, yet has early stage emphysema. And guess what? Her dad used to smoke like a chimney around her all the time. There is absolutely no reason for her to have lung problems like this unless it was due to the secondhand smoke. people just don't " develop" emphysema as non smokers unless they are exposed to others' smoke or poor air conditions.

Anyways, customers come to see dancers. Therefore, the health of the talent is pretty damn important; if you can't handle a couple hours without a cancer stick, either go home and complain to somebody who cares, or go outside, smoke, and come back in.

But thats an unfair connection. There is no scientific evidence of a link between her father and her illness, its just speculation. Society cannot and should not base laws on speculation. Even if there is a chance that you are right, it is *still* speculation, theres an enormous difference.

That said I agree one hundred percent about health, and I personally have never smoked a cigarette or taken any kind of drugs apart from alcohol occasionally, and I find smoking disgusting, second-hand smoking as well. But I just dont feel its my right to push that belief on others, nor the right of the government, until there is scientific data showing it is actually dangerous. If I did I'd feel like one of those nuts trying to ban and censor everything that doesnt suit their idea of morality.
