    Default Reading a book!

I haven't tested this enough to assert that it works but I wanted to throw the idea out there and maybe get some feedback from other girls who have done it.

I've worked some pretty dead shifts lately. I'm talking Monday at 12:00pm with 5 girls and 0-2 customers. After I danced for and got turned down by the 1 or 2 custies (or if there were none at all) I would read my book at the bar while the other girls sat around bored. When a customer came in, I think I stood out by reading and I would wave at them. Then I would go sit with him and break the ice by telling him about the book I was reading.

At least the couple times I tried it, I really stood out from the other girls and it got the customers very interested in me. And of course, I was soon dancing for them

I always kept one in the dressing room to entertain myself during the slow times. I never thought about doing on the floor. I think it would make you stand out and seem more interesting especially if was something a bit racy like the Kama Sutra or he history of strip tease.

I used to do this when my old club got insanely slow... (and i was loaded down with homework and really had no choice.) You get a few people interested but it's not really anyone who wouldn't be interested in the first place, you know? Do it to keep yourself occupied more than as a hustle technique. Best to concentrate on not letting good opportunities pass you by.

I've done that a few times...and it does work IMO. One time I was reading this big ass college book with Shakespeare plays in it, and it bought the guys right over...lol.

I wear contact lenses and it's too hard on my eyes to read in the club lighting. If I"m in the changeroom, I feel like I'm missing the action. I play Tetris on my phone, or text...or at clubs with bullshit no-phone rules, I use my iPod for tetris. Honestly, I don't think the customers care too much what we're doing, so long as we pay attention to them.

^ I used to do homework during the first few slow hours of an SC where I waitressed. As a bartender , I used to do this too ( reg. club, non-sc ) . I'd sit on the plush leather couches with my book for the first hour or two of the nights ( sometimes more on slow nights ) if there were not any customers yet. I used to be kind of embarrassed about it and would hear the door and run behind the bar and hide my book. Sometimes quiet door opening people would catch me pullying my hair out of my ponytail and walking over to the bar with my book in my hand. At the time , I was just trying so hard to finish my degree .... it was just neccessary to do this. I didn't really like to be "caught" studying in a party atmosphere. It never really occured to me to just work with it. I can see how this could really work in the situation you described.

I've considered pulling a Marilyn Monroe and pretending to read a book - held upside down!

So many dudes love that dumb shit, I'm sure it'd work.

But my management probobly wouldn't get it and scold me for 'reading' when I should be working. D'oh!

The last club I worked at banned books out on the floor. Playing on your phone, video poker, doing shots @ the bar, & staring into space were fine, but heaven forbid you crack open a book!

I do this a lot when it's dead.
I think it works sometimes, for different reasons. Maybe it's an icebreaker, they think it's cute, have a "awwww, poor little starving stripper student" mentality & want to "help out", it makes us seem unattainable, more like a real person...

Sometimes I just am overloaded with homework & I have no choice. Sometimes it's dead & I'm bored. I've never thought about it as a hustle technique.

I wear my glasses when I read though, & I have noticed that I make more money with my glasses. Weird, huh?

I wouldn't mind this if they were paying me. But if I'm paying them, that is bullshit.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

If it works for you cool! My club wouldn't allow us to do that though.

i've done it before when it was crazy slow. currently, i've got a book of truman capote stories in my work bag for that. didn't make me money, but kept the boredom from getting to me, so i was able to make money later when there were customers.

i might give it a shot, but at my club, if one girl has success with something, a bunch of others will try it. sure would be funny to walk into a strip club filled with strippers sitting around reading, though, wouldn't it?

it sounds like a good theory.....but it wouldn't work in most clubs being that most are way too dark and most managers probably wouldn't like it.

I wear glasses. I was reading some classic lit (Grapes of Wrath FTW!) on the floor and a lot of guys took notice. They all had a thing for 'smart' girls. As someone who wears glasses I get those guys a lot. Great hustle point!

^^^There is reasonably good lighting at the bar. I can't read in the whole club.

I don't think I could read a book out in the club, probably not even in the dressing room. It's too full of drama to concentrate. One time I had gone to the back to touch up my makeup and mess with my phone. A girl walked by and saw what I was doing and she said, "The asian bitch playing tetris on her phone, it's gotta be fuckin dead out there!"
I was like, wtf?? Yeah, ppl are too nosy for stuff like that.

When I worked at Sinners I used to use my book as a wallet, and it was always an ice breaker. If I wasn't getting tipped on stage, I'd climb to the top of the pole with my book, and hang upside down reading until someone tipped me (which they almost always did). Too bad I'm not allowed to carry anything around at the Seville

When I was working day shift, I did something similar- I did modular origami. It's a pretty good attention getter, actually.... Though one shift was so bad I almost got a full caffeine molecule done.....
