Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others, cannot keep it
from themselves.

He who wishes to secure the good of others, has already secured his own.

You need some motivation or some good advice on sales techniques to
give you a bit of a boost at the club tonight. Great idea, so you
browse the book store. You grab a classic Dale Carnegie or the latest
release or maybe both. You plunge into the with determination. You
begin to notice a recurring theme. To be great you need to go the
extra mile.
Now you are thinking "Oh S***". Because everyone knows what "extra"
means, right? It has something to do with the darkest corner of the
club and an exchange of germs we don't even want to think about.
Well, that is not the kind of extra that leads you to greatness. So what is?
To answer that question it is important to realize that you are not
only in the entertainment industry but also in the service industry.
What kind of service can you provide that would make the customer more
comfortable? What can you do to make him want to stay?
Example: His drink is empty, don't complain about the waitress. Go to
the bathroom and interrupt her cell phone fight with her boyfriend and
drag her to the table.
What can you do to make him feel special? People come back to places
where they feel appreciated.
Example: You see a face you recognize from before. It doesn't matter
if you danced for him or not. Welcome him back. This could be as
simple as a little smile and wave as you walk by.
Keep in mind you won't always receive a direct reward. But if you do
it consistently, it will be there even if you don't see the connection.
Example: A customer you just sat with is dying for a smoke. You run
off to get a pack for him. When you get back, he asks you to bring
over that girl sitting at the bar. You are disappointed but don't let
it show. After the introduction is made, you start to walk off but the
guy at the next table stops you. You think it is just because you are
a total fox (which you are) but what you don't know is this guy feels
uneasy around girls who look like they are on the prowl (which you
usually are). But while playing errand girl for his neighbor, you were
walking with a purpose and lost that hungry ,prowling look.
So now instead of being mad at guy #1, you are making money off guy #2
thanks to guy #1.
Some dancers make the excuse of "Why should I help this guy when I
could be dancing?". But could you be dancing at that moment? By all
means if you were on your way to dance for someone and get stopped
with a request, just say " I'm sorry I'm busy right now. I'll try to
get back to you."
Mostly these moments happen when you are not so busy. Why let go of an
opportunity in disguise just because just because it may take a little
more effort. What do you have to lose?
There are many more ways than these to go the extra mile. Just look
and you will see.
I wish you lots of luck while I'm taking a hiatus to write a book and have a baby.
