The most important thing: put up signs all around the area right away!
Put food and water around outside so she'll stay in the area if she finds it. She's probably still in the area, scared and hiding somewhere, but she'll come out. Now is your best time to get sightings of her and find her.

There are some excellent ideas in this article:
http://www.petrescue.com/library/find-pet.htm
Make a plan, be proactive, and don't give up.
I've been there and it didn't have a happy ending. I hope you do because it really sucks.
Does she have a collar on with ID? I think that is most important. Is she chipped? If not, signs are your next best hope.
The sad thing is that people will sometimes steal animals, so if you put out signs, put that she needs her meds so they won't want her. You can also leave messages with the local vets and shelters, in case someone brings her in.
Talk to your neighbors. I once lost a ferret and it turned out he climbed through a wall and somehow ended up in the wall, one floor below me. I asked my downstairs neighbor and she said she heard an animal scratching in her wall! We were able to save him.
Don't give up! Keep looking everywhere!

((((praying you have a happy ending))))
I'm so sorry honey. I would die if my cat dissappeared. how long has she been gone for? I hope she comes home soon.
One time my ferret got out and managed to get into my next door neighbor's house (actual house, with yards and gates separating them) and into her upstairs bedroom closet. Luckily, she knew that i had a ferret. When I was younger, I had a couple of rabbits get lost. A walk around the neighborhood a few times and alerting the neighbors helped every time.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
craigslist and put the pics on any pet finding sites you can find in your area.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..
and def. ask neighbors, a few I've known have taken in others cats. Also so, did anyone mention putting food out in any area you think she might return to? ie. the window she might have jumped from. I think tuna is concidered to work the best since it has such a strong scent.

I'm sending kitty homing vibes.
bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz <--vibes
She is so beautiful.
ETA: YES, ask neighbors. My Friday went missing one time and it turns out a neighbor lady had taken him and was begging her husband to keep him because he's so awesome. When she turned him out he came home.
Oh, and besides just posting an ad on craigslist, check the found sections. I found a dog once and that was the first place I figured I'd post to find the owner (and it worked).
This thread motivates me to chip my animals.![]()

the horrible thing is that i live seven stories up. the only way she could've gotten away was through the fire escape & then down to the parking garage. from there, she could've gotten to the street.
i am worried because she has never ever been outside before & i live in a busy city area.
she is microchipped, so hopefully i get a call soon.
thanks for all the advice, i've posted flyers in the building & i'll post to craigslist now!
i've left the window open in case she finds her way home.![]()
^Then it is quite possible a neighbor intercepted her before she made it all of the way down. Go knock on your neighbor's doors and ask. If they are not home, post a flyer with all of the info.

update: cat is dead. she got run over.
i don't know what to do.
That's what happened to my dog tooI was crying for like 2 weeks and was devastated.
The thing that helped me get over it is saving the life of another one. I went to the animal shelter and got the most pathetic, unadoptable (old, dirty, skinny, kinda ugly) looking dog and took him home.
He's nothing like my dog that died, but I think it evened things out and made me feel better. One dog died too soon. One got saved.
The cool part is that dog I adopted is pretty damn cool and loves me so much. And he won't have to spend his last days alone in a shelter.

Oh, glitzy. I'm so sorry.

i am so sorry for you. i'd die if that happened to my kitty.
i second the idea of going and adopting a kitty from the shetler. i did it after my first cat died and it helped soooo much.

I think I am going to do this, but maybe after a week, or two, or a month. Just a little buffer to remember my Millie.
I got my cat not from a breeder & as a kitten, so I think I am going to follow your model & get an old cat from the shelter that needs a place to retire.
I think getting a kitten or a cat similar to my old one would only make me even more sad. I want an old, proud, grumpy fat grandma cat that I can spoil rotten.
