    Default Pilates DVD

I want to try pilates but the instructor that takes pilates at the gym I go to is shit. I've done a couple of her classes and they are really boring.

I did a class with my aunt at her gym once and it was awesome and way more challenging but im not a member of that gym and it's not close by.

So Im thinking of buying a pilates DVD. But I am skeptical about exercise dvd's coz I guess u dont really get corrected on technique.

Opinions? Your experience? Are they any good? If so what are some good ones? Im browsing ebay now.

I really like the Gaiam ones with Ana Caban. Especially the ones done on a beach or outdoor setting. Indoor makes pilates extra boring IMO.

^That's the one I've been using.

If you scroll down a few, you'll see Pilates for Indie Rockers on the right. I'm thinking of getting that one. A friend of mine is in it and I think it would be more fun.

I have a pretty good 4 dvd set by a company called Maya that includes 2 yoga and 2 Pilates. I also like the Gaiam company as well.

The Moira Stott-Merrithew ones are pretty much the gold standard, but I'd check out the Pilates on Fifth videos online- they're just as good and free.

Stott and Power Pilates vids are good. Ana Caban is a family friend so - I'll promote her too. Stott vids bore me personally - Moira is way too low key. Power has good energy behind it and they're pretty much gold-standard too. Ana studied with Romana (Romana studied with Joe Pilates).

Oops, ahmeerah made two good points- Moria is pretty low key and you might find the "Power Pilates/Romana Kryzanowska" style to be a better fit for your needs. If you're looking for a "power" workout DVD, avoid the ones that feature Romana herself, since they tend to focus more on documentary aspects rather than teaching or providing a decent mat workout.

The Stott school materials usually hammer away at building up from fundamentals whereas the Power School materials take more of a "jump in and fix your form later" approach. I'm a complete retard kinesthetically, so I need the former, with a slow pace and no distractions- the "power" mat sessions I've done have just aggravated the issues I was trying to manage and didn't do much to strengthen my core.

If you're looking for a video that straddles both schools and has a faster pace, try Classical Pilates Technique - The Complete Mat Workout Series. I'd recommend anything associated with Peter Fiasca and/or Alycea Ungaro- their materials usually not only show you what to do, they also show you what it looks and feels like when you're doing it wrong.

^^^ Yeah. The ones with Romana herself aren't good for actually working out to. They're better to watch the people's technique and form and learn from that. I think the cueing from Power pilates is excellent. You don't need to look up at the monitor so you stay in alignment.

I studied pilates for years in school, and I favor Windsor pilates because it is very accurate and true to Joseph Pilates' techniques...
