Default How dangerous is stripping, honestly?

Sorry if this has been posted before or sounds weird

I've always wanted to dance to really save up money and buy a house or atleast make a really nice down payment on one.

Right now I do cam and the market is slowing down and I've never made amazing money with it.

So... I *REALLY-REALLY* want to dance.. I'm shy, but I'm kinda over the get naked for people I don't know because of cam so I'd be alright there. I also know I'd have a ton of fun for the most part, I've always loved going to clubs.

Whats holding me back is I've read (and even on these forums) about a lot of drama (i'd totally lose a fight) and possible stalkers..ect ect. I'm also the kind of person that freaks out at night if I don't lock my doors (in a good neighborhood), or hear weird noises... kinda paranoid (runs in my family >.>).

So do you think I could handle it? Maybe some of you are like me or had these worries?

Thanks! Hope I don't sound like a freak haha.

I feel safer in the club than I would going to a bar or nightclub coz the bouncers are there to look out for our safety.

As long as u take precautions like if you drive not walking to your car alone and don't ever tell customers personal details such as your name or area that you live in then you should be fine.

If you are talking about fights with other girls I guess it depends on the club. I havent seen anything like that at my club coz we would get fired right away if we got into a physical fight with another dancer.

Thanks for the replies ^^ I guess the Safety sticky kinda scared me a bit, and some of the stuff about cab drivers I've read on here makes me never wanna take one again LOL.

I don't think that stripping results in more dangerous/unwanted attention. Many women (and men) deal with stalker issues. The world is a fucked up place sometimes, and millions of people had to deal with violence, stalking, danger, etc. regardless of what they did to pay the bills.

Oh don't get me wrong I would NEVER catch a cab home from work. plenty of girls do but they have told me about how the cab drivers think they can pull shit coz they picked them up from a strip club. one asked one of my co-workers for a lap dance. i feel safer in my own car.

First off, stripping is WAY different than being on the cam, IMO. I started doing webcam work in 2004, and dancing in a club is something completely different. It's A LOT more fun though! I bet you'll love it!

But back to the topic....I feel perfectly safe at the club I work at. Finding a nice club is important IMO. There are some clubs in my city, that I would definitely be scared to work at. Do some online reserch on the best clubs in your area.

Valet your car if you can (most clubs let the girls valet for free - here in TX at least), or park near the door. Have someone walk you out at night, and always lock your doors right away (simple stuff really). Obviously don't tell anyone your personal information - same as working on cam - no real names, real locations, etc.

As far as the girls go, I am not a fighter either. I do hear girls TALKING about fighting here & there, but I stay away from drama/gossip/confrontation, and can't imagine having an issue with anyone....

I agree, stripping can be safe, I was fine over two years of it.... BUT, my sister worked in another city and had a really bad experience in the parking lot outside of her club after work. It was her fault in a way for going out there alone (!!), but just be aware, strip clubs can sometimes attract sketchy people and a lot of weirdos (girls and guys) so just have your guard up. It's better to be a bit worried and safe than not worried at all.

Stripping is like many other things in life -- it's as safe as you make it. Yes, you can get exposed to an unsavory element, depending upon what kind of club to work at. Yes, you can become endangered from stalkers and other creeps, depending upon how much you allow them into your personal life.

The people who say it's not dangerous have all made decisions that have kept them safe, and they feel like those decisions that they made are just common sense. They're also the same people who read some of the more outrageous stories on this site and are grossed out (rightfully so).

I think the thing for you to do is research the strip clubs in your area. If you're worried about safety, check out where these strip clubs are, and find out what steps the club takes to make sure you're OK at the end of the day. Do what it takes to instill confidence in what you're doing.

When I worked closer to home, for a long while, I had the same taxi driver, he was courteous. friendly and respectful. That driver wouldn't pick up customers in the same cab as a dancer. he would cirlce around a bit before he put the meter on to make sure we weren't followed so I was safe once I got home.

He would even wait on the street in the taxi until I flickered the lights at him to let him know I was inside locked in.

I always had my eyes open travelling to and from the club, never felt un-safe while actually in the club. I used to walk up the road to the taxi rank and get one from there, never from outside the club.
lso never left the club looking like a stripper, in fact I looked more like the cleaner

Stripping itself isn't dangerous. You just need to use common sense in all situations - not just while dancing. You would be amazed at the stupid situations women in general (not just dancers) put themselves into.

Falling asleep or I'd give a better reply, but wanted to thank you for all the comments!

I probably won't start for a while, I need to get some things straightened out first like getting a more reliable car (safety stickey =D ) lol.

You've put me at ease about a lot of it though. =)

as long as you work in a safe club, well staffed, with a good record, you should be fine. just make sure you never leave without someone walking you out (any good club will do this).

really the most "dangerous" thing about dancing is the mental and physical effects it can cause over time. you definitely need a strong mind and body, and even then it can falter from time to time.

When I work at the club, I am walked to my car.

When I worked at a department store, I sometimes walked to the back parking lot, late at night, by myself.

IMO, I'm much safer in the club. Do be careful of course, but while there are some horror stories on here the majority of us have been able to dance for quite a while without ever having a problem.

I definitely am glad that I have my own car though, I'm way too paranoid for a cab. But ask around and see if the girls can recommend a particular driver if you need to take one, and request that driver.

I never had a problem. Just don't give out any information (name, address, phone, etc,) make sure the bouncer walks you to your car (he'll probably flash a flashlight to make sure no one is in your backseat), and if possible don't live in the vicinity of the club. I do know of one dancer who had someone follow her home, but that's the only time I heard of it happening. I felt safer at a club than I have at regular nightclubs.

I agree mostly, but I *will* say that if you aren't used to going out "beautified", you may find that this aspect in particular can result in some unwanted attention.

I haven't particularly felt in danger from random commenters, most of the time, but they can be damned annoying!

I was leaving my gym after work today and looked at myself, and thought, "wow, I look sloppy", and was momentarily annoyed at my appearance -- until I remembered that I reap many benefits of looking sloppy (wearing a T-shirt or turtleneck and jeans or sweatpants) on my way home from work, since if I look good, the leftover makeup induces a bunch of strangers to try to engage with me.

But then, I take non-car forms of transportation, so I also have more contact with strangers on my way than anyone driving would.

Oh my! I am so glad y'all actually read the safety stickey. I started that thread like two years ago, and its still up That was my intention and the intention of all the other girls, to give advice that we wish we would have gotten when we started about staying safe...

Glad it helped....and vetrans lets keep posting in it !!

Oh yea, I read as much on here as possible. I'm pretty dead set on trying this as I've wanted to for as long as I can remember, and I don't see myself ever making 1k a week with webcam if only this was year 2000 still, or maybe if i never slept.. It's just getting over the paranoid parts for me, and feeling 100% safe.

So the only other thing thats bothering that I mentioned was the drama with the girls... I just read a thread yesterday where girls were shitting in each other bags (OMG!)..

How do I even pick out a club where I won't have that problem? I'm very very laid back to other people and pretty shy, but it seems like certain girls will do this regardless of if you've had an encounter with them or not.

In the US it's safe, but overseas it can be rough. read this blog for more info about dancing overseas:

Just keep your head down. Be polite and friendly, but don't try to be everyone's best friend. Do your thing. Don't give anyone a reason and most likely no one will mess with you. I've been stripping for 10 years on and off and the most I've ever experienced was a girl telling me I was stuck up. (Cause I kept to myself! Ha!)

The idea that strip clubs are dangerous, horrible places where girls get stalked, raped and beaten up by other strippers is...well, it's more suited to a made for tv movie than real life. Do those things happen? Yes, I'm sure they do. But I'll tell you this--I have been sexually assaulted, held up by my neck and choked against a wall (separate incidents), cornered by white trash bitches itching for a fight...All of these things happened in your good old wholesome neighborhood night club. Night clubs do NOT protect women from unwanted touching and other types of inappropriate behavior. For the most part, strip clubs DO.

Use common sense...have a lock with you so you can lock your stuff up(use a luggage lock if you dont have a locker) and keep your eyes open. Also stay SOBER...if you are buzzed at or leaving work you wont be as alert to potential problems.

I've been dancing on and off for 8 years and I've working in some clubs in REALLY shady ghetto areas and I've never had a real problem. The few close calls I've had were dealt with fairly swiftly.

Is is def physically and emotionally draining though so prepare yourself for that...there will be assholes...customers AND staff...there will be injuries and such...but be smart and you'll be fine
