    Default My bedroom is damp

Firstly get your minds out of the gutter hahaha.

Seriously tho I live in an old house and my bedroom is damp. There is some mould growing on my ceiling and the underneath of my bed is wet (on the floor boards) and under the mattress on the slats is wet.

i dont know where the moisture is coming from.

who do i contact to check this out? i have no idea.

Contact your landlord. All you need are some black mold spores to invade your lungs and you are fucked. Do you remember tragic beauty's story?

I don't know what apartment procedures there are for mold in Australia but here they are required to take immediate action. Take a look at your lease as well for information on mold.

In the mean time keep windows open and try to air out the place. I have used this and had good results.

Check your local yellow pages type people and get someone to test the damp areas for mold. Inspect whatever licensing they have to make sure they are legit. Mold is nothing to fuck around with. The black mold stuff can kill people.

If you have to remove some of the stuff then that's another thing and can be costly. So, if you have to remove stuff do your research to make sure the people you hire are going to get it done right.

Thank-you. Im so glad I made this thread i was going to clean it off myself with some mold killer stuff. Im glad I didn't do that. I didn't know it was dangerous.

So this is prob related to the dampness? It's very wet under my mattress. It's a brand new mattress too. This must be coming up from the floorboards. The mold is on the ceiling.

Yes, I'm sure its directly related to dampness. Gotta find the location in which the dampness may be coming from to stop it at the source. Or else no matter how much you clean it won't be worth it.

Sorry to worry you. Its just you don't know what kind of mold it is. Best to find out what it is and treat it properly. Not all mold is harmful but its best to know what you're dealing with.

oh boy - you probably have a pipe/riser with a pinhole leak and its behind the walls, seeping thru and pooling on your floor beneath. You are going to have to move out of that bedrom and I would do it yesterday.
    Get a plumber in asap.

If its just early stage mold you can clean it with bleach and water. The serious stuff the black mold etc is when its run away from you and been there sometime.

I myself wouldnt clean it but thats just the princess I am, lol, call in someone - but the thing is for buddy to get in at the pipes he'll be taking down your drywall, or plaster if your house is as you say 'older'.

In any event get out of that bedroom.

i dont have anything helpful to add but a funny story.

the first apartment i ever lived in was owned by a slumlord. he was greek and had a heavy accent.

after a heavy rain i noticed my ceiling bubbling and sagging, and the walls had some water running down the part by my bed.

so i call the landlord and he comes over 3 days later with a bucket and a broom. im not sure what hes going to do, but then i show him the spot. he turns the broom upside down and uses the handle to poke a hole in the ceiling. water runs out down into the bucket. he looks at me and in his thick greek accents says " there fixed. i come in the summer and patch roof."

    yep....

    lolzzz.
