    Default customer already busy

The other night at work I was on stage and a gentleman came over and tipped me very well throughout all 3 songs. I was ready to approach him off stage once I was done.

When I finished my set I went to the dressing room for a few min. to touch up my hair and make-up. When I come out, I see a girl already sitting on his lap. Oh well.
But as I walk by them, the guy gently grabs my arm and wants to talk to me. But the girl is just sitting there... on his lap. Not wanting to step on any toes I just say "Looks like you already have a hot girl sitting with you.. have fun!" so I pulled away and walked away. I noticed that she was sitting on his lap for soooooooo long, but I'm not sure if she even got any dances out of the guy.
So it kinda bothered me that I lost out on a customer. I don't blame her, I'm just wondering... did I do the right thing? Should I have stayed and hustled regardless of the girl on his lap or is it the right thing to do to just walk away?

I think you should've walked up to the customer right after finishing your stage set instead of going to the dressing room to freshen up. I've made that mistake several times thinking that I had to fix my hair or makeup first before asking a guy for a dance, only to find out that they were already getting a dance from somebody else that asked them before I could.

VC, when a customer makes it a point to ask you to stay, you stay. AFTER he asks you to stay, say something like "the more, the merrier" or "so you like them 2 at a time, huh?" anything to keep it light, friendly, non-threatening. If he decides to ditch her on his own later, then so be it. You win some, you lose some. Let me make an analogy of sorts. Guy goes to a bar, gets a bourbon. He sees a bottle of his favorite vodka as the bartender serves him the drink. About halfway through the drink, he decides he'd rather have the vodka. The bartender tells him he can't have the vodka because there's a glass of bourbon in front of him. You are the bartender in this case.

Amber has the right idea, and yes, next time go there right after your stage, no matter how icky you feel...here's why:

I will sit back sometimes and watch the guys at the club. I'll watch to see who tips the wait staff, the girls on stage, etc. I'll watch to see what the guys are looking at, what kind of girls catches one guys eye over another. If I see a guy drop some big money on a girl at stage, I'll see what type of girl she is. If I'm comparable, I'll walk by and see if I can grab his attention.

No, this isn't cut throat, it's business. If he doesn't smile or seem interested in my attention, I move on quickly.

So get there fast next time, even if it's to say "I'd love to dance for you, but I really want to freshen up for you first..." or something. And if a guy flags you down with a girl there, totally use those lines Amber mentioned "Two at once huh?!? You stud!" "Oh are you having a little party over here? Fun!" Etc....

I would have stayed since...especially since he made an effort to get your attention. Some customers like to have the company of multiple dancers. I tend to notice that the customers that buy me off the list or buy VIP often want me AND another girl to join him.

However I totally understand you not wanting to step on any toes. I try and avoid drama as much as possible. I agree with Amber though...you can keep in light and not cut throat by joking around about him wanting "two girls at once" or whatever.

He asked you so you have every right to sit with him. I would try to be friendly with the other girl and maybe suggest a double, but yeah... fair game.

Another reason to hit the floor immediatly after getting off the stage IMO (this has already happened to me once, now I walk the floor right away and if no one bites, then I go back to the DR for hair/makeup retouching).

I do simple hair and makeup and am as careful as I can be to not mess them up too badly so you can stay out of the dancing room.

Next time someone's that interested, close before you even get off the stage so that e knows he'll have you as soon as you're done with your set. If another dancer is at the table, acknowledge her presence, but make it known that you and he have already agreed to spend some time together.

Especially if she's just sitting there like a log...

He allready thought you were hot on stage so why bother to gild the lily?

When you get off stage and you have a hot prospect, get him right away! If you still feel hot and sweaty after you have done dances for him, go back to the DR after that!

I think you might have shot yourself in the foot by the way you worded things. This always works for me: If the guy that tipped me well has someone on his lap/at his table when I approach I say, "I don't mean to interrupt, but I just wanted to say thanks for tipping me so well. I'll stop back by in a little bit." If he wants to talk to me even though he's with another dancer, I say something like "I see you have a hot broad/girl here already. Would you like me to come back later?" Most guys say "sure" and usually the girl will do her dance/dances and move the fuck on. Some guys ask me to pull up a chair, in which case I will.

I ALWAYS defer to the other girl. Just the way I do business. But that NEVER means shooting myself in the foot. If he tipped me that well or asked me to come by, then dammit i will! It just might mean that I make my money from him AFTER she does. She's probably making pity money from him anyway because he'll pay for a dance to get her off of his lap. He's really waiting for you (confidence=assuming this!) It's almost like making a date with the customer for a few minutes from now.

I use to always walk by and thank the customer if he tipped regardless of whether another girl was sitting there or not. But if a girl was sitting there I'd thank him and move along my merry way as opposed to hustle him. If he has another girl there it's up to him to get rid of her or have the two of you both entertain him.

I HATE it when that happens! But, I think you did the right thing. I just smile, and say, "Thank you for the tip. Would you like me to come back after you two are finished?" It gives the other dancer a good promt to ask for dances or move along, and it isn't rude.

Your customer will be gone in a few hours. Your coworker will be gone in a few years.
