this gymnastics crap is ridiculous

No shit! I thought Johnson should have won gold on floor. I'm loving Nastia too. At least she won the all around though.

Agreed. I don't get the whole gymnastics BS at all.

When you base the results of a contest on the subjective opinion of judges, many of whom are there to do nothing more than grind their representative country's political axe, fairness doesn't exactly come to the forefront.
Precisely why gymnastics is a joke as an Olympic sport, just like figure skating is at the Winter games.

Minor Threadjack: "Nastia" is the best porn name ever.
waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.
No link, but here's the screwing evidence-
1-The one (Chinese? North Korean?) girl that beat Alicia Sacramone out for a bronze on the vault landed on her knees and got a higher score than Sacramone.
2-All the commentators said that Nastia Liukin did better than the Chinese third grader on the uneven bars...but the scores came out tied for first between the two...and then the tiebreaker went to the Chinese girl.
3-Bela Karolyi has been screaming about crappy scoring, claiming that the US is consistently being under-scored.
4-The Chinese team is cheating to begin with, trotting out underage girls with a bald-face. They must think the rest of the world is a bunch of idiots. Look at this picture of two supposed 16 year olds next to our 18 year old...
That middle girl looks like she could be 12.

It is subjective to an extent but I totally disagree that it's a joke as an olympic sport. Considering some of the "sports" where so-called athletes look more like average overweight citizens.
As a former elite gymnast in my country I have to agree that the judging was absurd towards the American gymnasts. But it is a great sport and definately deserves to be at the Olympics.

If the IOC has any balls, they'll investigate this matter (once all the fun and festivities are over of course), and if they determine these gals are indeed underage, should strip their medals, or at least provide duplicate medals (the top LEGAL entrants get the golds, etc.) and report only those as the official records.
The Chinese can spin whatever fakery that they want on that so their oppressed citizens can save face, just like the fakery they spun on TV viewers for the opening ceremonies:

To clarify, I am not in any way trying to diminish the hard work and accomplishments of gymnasts (even underage ones), but its a crying shame that all that hard work is put on the back burner for sake of politics. What good is there in trying to bring objective standards to gymnastics if those standards aren't going to be enforced?

^^
I agree with that. The judging was a joke. I love watching gymnastics but it ruined it for me watching obviously biased judging.
In the individual all-round finals the chinese gymnast who won the bronze medal gave mediocre performances on every apparatus. Her beam routine was AWFUL. she lost balance on her mount, several times during her routine, didn't complete her combinations and therefore her starting score should have been lowered and she didn't stick her landing. Her score on beam was an absolute joke.

The IOC is going to do an investigation ... no cheaters in the Olympics I say!
