    Default Standing "Wake". whaaaaaaaaa???

I feel sort of wrong laughing about this but ... fuck it.

I wonder if they played the 1989 song "Stand" by R.E.M anytime during the wake.

I can actually see how that conversation went. He was a thug, in a gang probably (look at his clothes, his stance and the expression they chose as his last).... he would probably say, "Yo, if I die, none of this bullshit in a coffin, yo. Imma be proud and STAND at my own funeral."

I'd be really nervous he might fall over.

Does anybody know how he died? They found him under a bridge?

    Caraho Puneta.

This irked me. He was probably involved in the drug trade and that led to his untimely demise. His request communicates machismo- ugh. (This is the only thing I hate about being from a Latin culture. The man always gets his way, even if it's a bad thing.)

(I can't help but think of how my family would look at it- "Mijo, stay ALIVE and upright so you can help support your family....")

Bizzare...but yeah doesnt surprise me. Sounds like something a young gangbanger thug would request. "I'm a MAN yo...I dont lie down in no fruity fucking coffin"

and it says something about his lifestyle that he planned what he wanted at his funeral at what..23 years old??

^ I dunno. I'm 22 and my funeral has been planned and half paid for for about 2 years.

My best friend's mom wants to sit on a sofa for her funeral instead of being in a coffin. Oh & she's very serious about it!

LOL. He said something similar. I saw this on the news. He said he wanted to remain standing bc he didn't want his enemies to see him knocked down.

    It's so fucking ghey.

I'm so going to hell for saying this but......can you imagine if a stripper wanted to be mounted upside down on a pole during her Wake?? Or maybe mounted on a pole in mid-swing!!

I just still can't get over the hilarity of him just standing there. Since the Wake is lasting/lasted three days I can just see some of his gangster buds getting wasted and walking over to him and having full on conversations with him like he's still alive or something.

Yep. I'd be the same. If you didn't know about it in advance, you'd probably piss down your leg at the sight!

OMG...thats like some horror movie type shit. I was reading that and I honestly freaked just from looking at the pics...I don't even like looking at a dead person when their in the casket...if I was in that house, I would totally freak out and pray that he doesn't open his eyes and just get up and start walking...

As you can see, I watch too much TV...

At the Old Burying Ground in Beaufort NC there's this grave:

"One grave, according to legend, contains an English sailor who was buried upright so that he could eternally salute his king."

When I saw it all I could think was that I would not want to be on my feet for all of eternity.

At least this guy was smart enough to only go for 2 days standing.
