Don't go to heavy on your makeup. Seems that everyone makes that mistake when they do a photoshoot.

Talk to your photog ahead of time and find out what you will be shooting aganist. Plan outfits accordingly. Focus on your best assets, obviously. If you're uncomfortable with your stomach (or ass, or boobs), wear something that covers it and play up another part of you. Also, remember - photoshop is your friend and most photogs will erase any imperfections.

Back to clothing.....Personally, I never wear anything too flashy. I keep it simple. Outfits with too much glitz, too many patterns, too much "oomph", only take away from you and the photograph.

Make sure you do a good set of "warm-up" shots. I have been modeling for about 8 years, and STILL need a few minutes of shooting to really get warmed up and start hitting those "keeper" shots. Also, ask to see the pics during the shoot (if he's shooting on a digital). This is something I still do. You want to see how it looks (the colors, the poses, the whole package), so you can modify if needed. Sometimes it also really increases your confidence, when you see how amazing the pics are turning out.

Flick through some magazines (or websites) and use them for inspiration. Steal poses and copy outfits. Get a scrapbook together and take it with you, that way if you get a mental blank on poses you can use it, it will also help to show the photographer what you want to achieve with your photos.
Work on getting the poses that suit your personality and flatter you the most. If you can get someone (or use the self portrait mode on a camera) to do some happy snap shots of you doing a heap of different poses. You can then see what poses flatters you, and what adjustments you need to do to get a pose right (eg arching the back, dropping the shoulder so it doesn't cover your chin etc etc).
Practise in front of a mirror if you cant.
The rest of the suggestions already made are very good.

Corsets are good for hiding tummies and enhancing a bust line. Of course platforms make the legs appear more muscular and the ass firmer. Black slenderizes, avoid horizontal stripes and large patterns.

I'd love to give you some good advice. However you need to fill in some of the blanks. What is the website for? Where will it be shot, in a studio, in an apartment, in a hotel room, outdoors, etc? Who is shooting it, is it a friend is it just a hired photographer? What lighting options do you have available? Why do you think you look "terrible in pictures"?

You can PM me if you like... I'm happy to help.

The shoot is for my personal website and advertising. THe shoot will be in a barebones studio with a white "cyc wall." but you cant go wrong for the price at $35 per hour! I'm hiring a photographer (i believe she may be a member of SW as well). As for lighting, she has some artificial lights but the studio also has huge windows with southern exposure. There will be few props available to me; they have a leather couch, a stool. I want to find a large white sheep or bear rug for some cool shots on the floor. I have a few lingerie sets and couple of dresses that i think will show off my body well.

As for looking terrible, i have a tendency to look manly or harsh in photos--so it can take a million shots before i get one good one. My teeth also look strange in photos (theyre crooked) so im not sure on how to smile without looking smug. Even my friends agree that I look very different in photos, so it cant be my imagination.

Find a celebrity with similar features as you and find some shots of them you like. Take those w/ you to the shoot and go over them with the photographer, so he can light you in a similar way. The right lighting makes a BIG difference!

Also study the poses. Which angles are the most flattering, etc. etc. Don't outright copy, but use the pics to learn.

I'm a photographer so let me help you out, depending on where you are shooting in a studio or somewhere else, always use solid color clothing, hair loose and natural, no heavy makeup.

-While shooting your photos, remember to rearrange your hair every few shots, as sometimes a few stray locks of hair can ruin an otherwise great photo.

-Make sure to have pictures with your head at several different angles so you will be able to tell which ones 'soften' your features most effectively.

-Even if you're toned, suck it in! Take a slight intake of breath when you know the flash will go off as even something as minimal as exhaling while the picture is being snapped can 'create' a gut when you're looking at the final product. -

-If you have photos where you will be sitting, make sure not to have your thighs too close together as it will have a plumping effect and may create a distorted image.

-Keep your back arched in any sitting or lying postures as well so that your body will look longer and won't look choppy.

-Be fluid when transitioning into different poses but always keep your body alignment in mind. Don't go from one pose to one that is dramatically different to it with each camera snap but once you move into the next pose, hold it firmly!

-Experiment with taking photos where you look slightly to the left or right of the camera lens with your chin at different angles. This will have a softer effect and serve as a good contrast between dramatic photos where you are looking straight-on and you can discern which is most flattering for you.

-If taking pictures with your back to the camera, make sure to exaggerate your butt a bit by poking it out a bit more than normal so that the curves of your body are emphasized as photos have a tendency to flatten one's body more than how it'd look in real life.

-Heels will make your legs look their best and elongate the body.

-I swear by Jergen's Natural Glow firming lotion as it is neither too oily, sparkly, nor dry and makes darker skin look smooth without looking shiny. If you use no lotion at all, you may wind up looking washed out or ashen.

-As you are using a white background, avoid white clothing, or if you do wear white, pair it with a more dramatic color. Silver and/or gold will look especially striking with a white background.

-For smiling close-lipped, try to practice smiling solely 'with your eyes'. Think of an image that either makes you think 'aww, how cute' like a dog, cat or something. That way you'll have a slight smile but it won't come across as smug. Don't think of things that'll make you laugh, though, as you'll create the 'swallowed a gold-fish' look which will backfire!!!

    Hope this helps!!!!! Good luck!

The good thing about an all-white background is that it's essentially a blank canvas. That permits you to really experiment with poses. The window sounds great too. I've seen more than a few amazing photos taken in front of a beautifully sun drenched window.

Since you are going for something sexy (the lingerie tipped me off!) I urge you to channel your inner sex goddess (random link, but there is a great selection of poses, scroll down) http://www.lifeinitaly.com/fashion/sexy-list.asp . Scroll through those photos, maybe you'll see something you like.

In terms of your particular like/dislikes about yourself, I recommend having a glass of wine or two before shooting. Just to loosen up and get out of that negative head-space. If you are uncomfortable with your teeth, just give the camera a sexy pout. Also keep in mind that there is a magical little invention called photoshop that will straighten your teeth out like you've been wearing braces for 10 years.

So what if it takes 1,000 photos to get 10 shots that you feel great about? Digital photography permits shooting like a friggin' machine gun. Colaborate with the photographer. Allow them to direct you, then improvise and make the pose your own. Don't stress. Don't over analyze. Have fun and feel beautiful. Because you are beautiful... just let it show through.

So true. I wear heels when I take photos even if my feet won't be seen. Something about heels just arranges your body in such a way that it becomes fluid, sexy, and confident. Wear a pair that doesn't hurt!!! Discomfort comes through your facial expressions and can screw up what could have been a great pic.

Another thing... going to websites like FHM, Maxim, and Stuff Magazine will give you some great posing ideas.

Be sure to post your favorites! I'm sure they will be amazing!
