Default how long do i have to wait to get highlights again?

some of you may remember about a month ago when i dyed my hair dark brown with chunks of red highlights.
then i went back a week later and had the color bleached out (via a shampoo cap process) and then new highlights and also a medium brown put back on.
the stylist did a good job considering what it was before, but even she said she couldnt' promise the prettiest blonde.

so right now it is pretty brassy, and the medium brown is a little lighter than i'd like.

I was wondering how long i have to wait to make another appt to get some darker lowlights put in and also try and get the highlights less brassy and lighter?? The original color was done july 22 and then the bleaching/highlights was a week later.

    thanks!

You can get the lowlights done as soon as you want. As far as brassiness goes you can buy some this http://www.aveda.com/templates/produ...CT_ID=PROD5794 to cancel out the brassiness. It has a temporary color in it. You can leave it in a for a couple minutes but I wouldn't leave it in too long or it might pick up too much of the violet. Matrix also makes one called "So Silver" http://www.hairexpo.biz/max_0001.html and Clairol makes one called Shimmer Lights http://www.haircareusa.com/clairol_shimmer_lights.htm .

If you choose to get highlights again using bleach then I would recommend only getting the new growth done. You should really wait 4 to 6 weeks between highlight appointments. I hope you are using a good deep conditioner to get your hair in shape if are planning a visit back to the salon real soon. I can recommend this http://www.aveda.com/templates/produ...CT_ID=PROD9029 you can use it every day for a week then once weekly thereafter.

Agree with green, just get the regrowth done... You've had a bleach cap and more bleach used to create highlights. Your hair is pretty fragile and dragging even more bleach through it may cause major breakage.

In the meantime, you need some serious protein treatments. Use Redken's Extreme CAT- it addresses the protein bond in the hair that is respondsible for the hairs strength and "toughness". Most protein treatments only address the bonds responsible for softness and moisture which may give you some instant gratification, but will do nothing to help your hair withstand the chemical beating you're giving it.

Is cystine responsible for toughness? or Keratin? I've heard you need to go with cystine rich products to complete the damaged keratin which is too big to penetrate and create extra disulfide bonds. Which proteins help more with softness? Panthenol?

Sorry if I'm a doofus, my chem classes didn't really focus that much on hair structure.

^^^ according to my cosmetology text book, cystine bonds are within keratin...

I'm not sure about which proteins are best for moisture and softness but panthenol seems to be the most widely used.

Yeah, cystine is a part of keratine, it's the part that forms the disulfide bonds between the keratine molecules. Which, I think, is what helps with strength. I'm not sure whether the keratine is damaged and loses it's cystine and that would be better because it is smaller and can penetrate or if hair loses it's keratin completely and it can penetrate the follicle as is and is therefore better. The stuff I found online is confusing, I can't seem to find a clear answer.

I don't much about cystine but I do know that disulfide bonds are the strongest ones out of the three (hydrogen bonds and side bonds are the other two). The protein the hair is made of is keratin. Here is some more information I found http://www.pg.com/science/haircare/hair_twh_12.htm
