Default Pole tricks and Strength(shoulder mount)

I really want to be able to do a shoulder mount
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6QYSKxIz3k
but I'm not sure if its that I'm not strong enough or if its just a mental barrier.
I can do an inverted Gemini http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHe3ogVakvw just fine though. How much more strength does it require to do a shoulder mount than the Gemini?

    Its a slightly different engagement.

I found what helped ME to get into it, was to focus on REALLY engaging the muscles. Forever, I couldn't do it, because i'd grip HARD wiht my hands, but not encage all of my arm muscles. Once I focused on gripping hte pole between shoulder and neck, i also engaged my arm muscles, and was able to get the momentum to go up.

Interestingly enough, I don't find the floor excersize, like in your tutorial, to be useful. WHen your just learning it, its easier if you can just have yourself in a halfway arched position, and use your legs to kick up into it, with more momentum. It actually seems to take more muscular control to come up without that "jump start".

Part of it may be a mental barrier. Can you have someone spot you while you kick up into it?

If you can, practice shoulder stands, as this will help, both with the feeling of where your weight is, but also with the kick up.

Hopefully alena, or sassy, or someone more useful than me, can come in here to help.

it's totally differnt fromthe gemini, you mounting in a completely different way.

i prefer not to kick back and up into it, i prefer to use my abs to control the movement up. for me at first it was mental block..it's a scary position to be in.

but another big hurdle for me was the pain in my trapezius, but I have fibromyalgia, so things are a bit more painful for me than most others.

i just started with baby steps, just tucking my knees up and in towards my chest first, then slowly i started opening and then grabbing the pole, then eventually i could just do it with split legs

here's me..go to about 3:10 into it, i go into one (sloppily cause i was sweaty and slick), ignore the stuff before the actual move, i was trying to get my hair out of the way..oh yea, make SURE you have skin only on the pole!

i don't really kick back as much as up.

you just have to practice practice practice!

I have someone so I will try that, but I'm not sure what shoulder stands are...

SOmething like that, and variations, particularly keeping your hands on the ground, rather than supporting you as it is in that image.

Some of these tricks require a great deal of shoulder/back/stomach strength. But feeling like you can't do it is going to hold you back far more than a lack of strength. Relax, stop worrying about it, but keep trying.

i've been doing pole tricks for around a year now, and it took six months of simpler, easier tricks before i was strong enough to do a shoulder mount.

once you're finally strong enough to do it, make sure once your legs are up you're still maintaining your grip. i've seen a couple girls freak out and slip straight down.

    you'll get it. practice!
