    Default B movie style?

I've been booked to do a burlesque show on Halloween. I asked if they were doing a scary/halloween theme and the promoter told me its focused on 50's rockabilly and asked if I had any routines that were "a bit "B-movie style." I might be being dense but what is a B movie??

I looked it up on Wiki but the explanation they gave didn't give me much help. If anyone can explain it can you give me some examples of B movies? I might be being really dense but I've never came across this term before.

Hey, what are your existing routines? I can help you B-ify them.

So, B movies. Usually (ok, always, otherwise what's the point?) they've got gratuitous violence and nudity, maybe the supernatural or extraterrestrial, a low budget, a somewhat cheesy premise, and unknown stars. Think crappy movies sent to the drive-in or second-run theatres. It's a very American concept. A lot of classic horror/sci-fi movies are totally B movies as are those in the women-in-jail or good-girls-gone-bad genre. New Wave Hookers, anyone? A lot of Quentin Tarantino's inspiration comes from B movies.

Anyhow. If a producer told me he was looking for something like that, I'd think, oh, plastic guns, cheesy props, and a Russ Meyer aesthetic. Maybe you're a jailbird. Maybe you have a switchblade. I personally would go for pulling an alien out of my g-string at the end, heh. You can have a lot of fun with this one, plus an excuse to wear a beehive hairdo!

BTW I find it really excellent that this show is happening in the UK. I bet I'm being totally ignorant and there was a whole British B-movie thing of its own.

Oh, google "Joe Bob Briggs" if you want a place to start with some titles. Troma still makes them. Also, Something Weird distributes a lot. And if you're really nice I might show you one I was in. There was fake blood and nudity! woo!

Kinda what Tarrantino did with Deathproof.
