Default getting off Depo Provera: what am I in for?

I've been on Depo for seven years and have been very happy with it.
I am still pursuing having my uterus removed or severely fried so that I
will be sterilized AND not have to have periods while not having to
    deal with ghastly hormone issues.

I've thought about going on the pill but think that since I'm celibate for
now I'm going to wait to see what happens. I hope I am the type that
doesn't have a period for a year after stopping depo. that'd be soooo nice.

anyway, I wanted to know other's experiences were when they got OFF of depo.
there are plenty of threads about people's experiences on depo but I want to
know what specifically happens good and bad when coming off depo, especially
if you are the type that had been on it for awhile.

personally it'd be nice to see what my natural non-birth-control-influenced
metabolism is and if I'll notice any difference in my hair thickness.

back in February I got really busy and didn't get my shot for a month. my skin was
horrible but I didn't bleed. I'm going to try to find some natural ways to make
the transition in a less ugly manner, like detoxing.

    I'm worried

edit: I made the post on my phone last night so I edited some of the
typos and cleaned the post up a little bit.

My body loved me when I came off it. I lost loads of weight, my tummy bloat went down. I didnt have a period for about 4 months after I stopped though.
    Best thing I ever did.

Google `Cool Oil`. I swear by the stuff, I started taking it December, mainly to help with my flexability` but Iv had pain free periods since January.
I was lazy last month though and didnt buy any, and this months the pains came back.
Its an oil with all the Omegas in it plus evening primrose. Amazing stuff.

weight loss and no more bed time cavings.

Just make sure to use cond. until you have a new control method.

I came off it by going on the pill. Because of my horrific experience with Depo, my doc put me on a monophasic pill that has the same level of hormones every day instead of the cyclical ones so I could feel a little even. It was amazing. Extra weight came off, moodiness faded (I still have my moments), and I wasn't a psycho beeyotch anymore. My period was weird for a while, but it's back to normal now (it's been about six months). And my boobs grew! Which was one of the side effects I was hoping for with Depo, but it never happened.

    1. how much weight did you lose and how long did it take to lose? I need to work out anyways, but I'm wondering what's going to "melt off"
    2. I'll keep the oil in mind, though when I was on depo, evening primrose made me have some hellacious zits. I'll keep it in mind for when I have depo completely out of my system and try it again. I use MSM and glucosamine for my joint pain just in case you haven't used that yet. Feed it to my dog too

At first when I read this I was like, "conditioner? really? my hair's going to be that bad?" but then I figured out it was condoms-- yeah-- not having sex, and probably wouldn't until I went on the pill or figured out a sterilization procedure to have and find someone to perform it.

Bed time cravings: Yes! I swear! Get me between 11 pm and 3 am and my body is telling me to go get cheese fries most nights.

If I'm the type that my period takes forever to come back, I know
I'm going to wish I'd done this over the past 7 years, and especially
during the past two years. I've just always been afraid of being
that girl who bleeds for 3 or 4 months straight.

I'm going to keep this pill in mind for when I go on-- I'm hoping to get a sterilization procedure nailed down by December, but if not-- the pill. I actually didn't have a lot of mood swings on this thing-- perhaps in the first two years I had them, but then again I was in a shitty relationship-- so some of the stuff I blamed on Depo, I look back now and really think it was more the shitty relationship I was in. It would be nice if my boobs grew off ANY birth control (I've been on it since I was 18, but then again, I got my period between 11-12, so it wasn't as if I was a late developer) but I wouldn't mind trying that pill and seeing if that was a positive side effect.
Also: how much weight did you lose? how long did it take for you to lose it? How was your period weird? do you skip the period on your pills by skipping that portion of the pill packets?

I wonder if I'm going to be a big hormonal bitch now. I mean, I've had pretty steady hormones for the past five years...what's going to happen now?

    bump! doing online searches--
with the weight loss people are saying they
didnt lose weight until they got their periods back.

did this happen with you guys? or did you notice weight
loss and differences in eating/exercise urges before that?

Honestly I wasn't using a scale when the weight gain happened, so I don't even know how much I gained. I just know it was all in my midsection, which was the most uncomfortable place to gain. A couple of months after I got on the new pill (which is called Desogen, btw) I noticed my old stuff was fitting again. It was definitley NOT an overnight thing, and of course the Depo was still in my system for awhile, but I think the new pill made a difference.
When I say my period was weird, I guess I just wasn't prepared for it to be different from before. I started those placebo pills, and nothing happened. I didn't bleed until the last day, right before I started my new pack. And I bled all the live long day on Depo, so I couldn't figure out why it took so long. But now that it's been a few months, my periods start and last a normal amount of time.

I was on depo for 5 years and I had the exact opposite experience than everyone else here...

When I was on Depo I could not gain weight to save my life! I was a GIANT bitch ALL the time! When I finally got off depo, I put on some weight, not in a bad way though I was sickly looking before. I dont remember how long it was after stopping but I had the WORST cramps you can imagine! Not period cramps but like intense pains that had me doubled over in pain and on the phone with my doctor. Also I remember for MONTHS my boobs hurt so bad that just moving my arms made me cringe, it was the worst pain! The doctor said it had nothing to do with getting off of Depo but I think thats bullshit personally.
