Default My skin looks like shit - help

I'm 25, and I still get break outs, so I can't use heavy moisturizers, but my skin is dry and it sucks to use benzoyl peroxide.

I have fine lines around my eyes, zits around my mouth (it's not from my cell phone or resting my chin on my hand, it's hormonal and YES I'm on birth control), brown spots and texture issues from the sun. It just looks awful. Working in smoke doesn't help.

My skin needs an overhaul, badly. Suggestions? I was thinking of getting a medium depth peel or a series of Fraxel treatments, but the first peels and scabs for two weeks and the second is THOUSANDS of dollars.

I usd pro active. Didn't do shit. I get breakouts on my chin from hormones too. I have been using Neutrogena Oil free cream cleanser and I put ZAPZYT on my pimples before I put on my makeup regimne. Its worked great so far!

And I exfoliate once a week.

I've been wanting to post the exact same thing. I'm very curious about the chemical land laser options.

Anyone have experience with Retin-A? Does it have a noticeable effect?

Awwww your skin sounds like mine, and I know how frustrating is is to have dry skin that's prone to wrinkling but that ALSO breaks out. I have no advice; I've never had a peel or laser or anything, I just try to drink a lot of water and hope for the best. If you figure out something that works for you, let me know, because at some point I'm going to have to do something about my fine lines, they are the bane of my existence.

My friend uses REtin-A and its done wonders for her. However, it has crazy side effects when it comes to your fertility I believe

^ I'm on minocycline for my skin, and I HAVE to take birth control, because if you get pregnant on it your baby will have MAJOR birth defects - like missing limbs

I have dry/oil skin, and my reginme (sp, no idea) is wash with the acne cleanser, put on zapzyt and then aveeno sensitive skin. then put my make up.

I have that skin where if the breeze blows the wrong way I will get a pimple that will live under my skin for weeks on my chin and the zap zyt has really worked!

Poor Viola. That's quite a doozy. Maybe I can help with the acne.... I find that Differin is very helpful (I hate benzoyl peroxide too) and works quickly without drying out the skin.

Try getting a facial and talk to the esthetician. My skin was looking really dull and mine recommend a lot of great things for me to do. Retin-A is effective but will make your skin DRY and PEEL.

It cleared up 90% of my acne, I had HORRIBLE cysts around my mouth and constant zits on my face. I've been on it for about 2 years and I NEED it, but it hasn't solved the entire problem.

hiya. i use dr. hauschka, which you can buy at whole foods. it's not cheap and takes a few weeks- you may get a few breakouts in the beginning and your body needs to adjust to it. the trick it to use it daily and keep using it. now, i'm off of my rx acne medication, even in summer, when i break out the worst. what about makeup? what kinds are you using? i use bare minerals and this stuff has been much better to my skin.

what type of birth control are you on? are you willing to try a different type or use condoms? when i was on the pill it did horrors to my body and i refuse to use it now, esp since i smoke.

this is my skin too. i'm 32 years old and i have two giant zits (corner of mouth, between eyes... call me.... cyclops!)

proactiv isn't any good for these deep ones on dry skin.

i even have scarring round my chin from these bastard zits.

someone mentioned a hormonal treatment they got from their endo.. spirono-something.

also, i've heard microdermabrasion can help release the nasty cysts and clear up scarring. i'm just a bit chicken of getting it done... but it's on the list.

Is it possible that you've developed antibiotic resistance to the minocycline?

This might not work and I have only just started it myself, so I'll let you know in a week or so how it goes but I am giving THIS a go before I start on any chemical treatments for my own skin problems. Its called the Oil cleansing Method, very cheap and simple, and it has made my skin soft, after 1 day....

Seriously, I had not problems as a teenagers and now at 29 I have pimples??? what is up with that??

    Drink lots of water.
Exfoliate weekly or twice a week.
Use a medicated clearing gel before bed.
Use a more expensive foundation/powder if you're not, it really does help.
Use a resurfacing cream for the colour unbalance.
    Drink more water.
Eat more vegetables that are dark and green.

I have very oily acne prone skin. I get pimples mostly on my chin and sometimes my cheeks.

I just got a facial yesterday and today my skin looks awesome!! It's pricey...but I am thinking of trying to get facials more often. I was really impressed by the difference after just one treatment.

She said my cell turn over rate is not as good as it should be and my skin has a hard time shedding the dead cells. I guess I need to exfoliate more (4 times a week), use a moisturize with alpha-hydroxy twice a day, and a good quality mask once a week.

Also she said to stick with mineral makeup. I kinda knew that already. I tried liquid makeup for a couple of weeks...and my skin freaked the hell out. Back to minerals for me.

Sounds like a hormonal thing. Look into adjusting your diet. I won't get on my soapbox on this thread.

benza clin worked well for my skin, i have sensitive skin and it's really dry. also, kiehl's moisturizer and their cleansing milk works really well for me because it moisturizes w/o leaving it greasy (i put it on before bed and my skin feels great after). also, is it possible that your makeup is causing your skin to break out? what are you using for your face?

My sister had bad cysts on her nose and tried proactive. It works for the really bad stuff but she still had a lot of small pimples. I recommended the St Ives Apricot Scrub for senstive skin (it's MUCH less abrasive and drying than regular) and it seemed to help a lot.

She doesn't have have dry skin, but I kind of do, and I use Biore Moisturizing Toner. It's alcohol free and contains aloe and chamomile.

    Perhaps that will help some.

I use Retin-A .025. It works wonders for my skin. I used to have cystic acne plus random pimples and clogged pores. Now my skin is mostly clear except for some clogged pores in my t-zone and the occasional pimple around my period.

    Its also anti-aging.

I have combination skin. In the winter I used to have a problem with major dryness, but would break out if I used moisturizers.

After going through a ton of product tries--Clarins Dehydrated type of Facial Oil. I use it every night. It's actually in a jar, in the form of oil, and it's awesome. I'd never think of putting oil on my face, but I'd heard of this, and was desperate, so tried it. It's a wonder product-major moisturization, but only use at night.

Yes! I have tubes of it (thanks to a girl on here!) It makes you peel pretty bad. But after that it works. NO SUNLIGHT! and honestly don't use foundation.

I got better results from Pro-active, however huge downside is that your linens will always stink from it. The sulfur in proactive (the biggest reason it works) makes your linens reek! You are better off on buying sulfur soap, not using foundation and stridex pads twice daily.

I'm convinced my breakouts are due to hormones dropping due to age.
