i have the same problem-i can't shave for that reason. I use Nair-thankfully I have no allergies to it, unless i do it too frequently.
I've heard that deoderant is supposed to be good for razorburn, but that never helped me. Also, a girl i used to wokr with recommended putting baby powder on it when you get out-she thought that anything that kept the area devoid of extra moisture helped. It seemed like when i baby powdered it, i still got it, but less severely.
Hopefully someone else has osme better techniques for you.

first off, my worst issue was with the type of shaving cream i used. i now use kiss my face natural shave cream and i would never use anything else. i'm pretty sensitive, so things like skintimate have never worked well. there is a product called coochie shave cream (you get get it at sex shops, even on ebay) and i have tried this and it works pretty well.
i use a venus razor and these seem to work better than the two blade ones and are less irritating. dont go cheap on razors, you get what you paid for.
when i scrub off in the shower, i use dr. bronner's baby castile soap, esp below the belt, i'm pierced down there and need that area clean. stay away from those froo froo scented body washes- they can irritate skin. after i get out and thoroughly dry off, i use unscented lubriderm on my skin- i put quite a bit on so my skin is slick and dont rub it in hard. i put it anywhere i've shaved. i dont put it close to my cooch, cause well, i'd hate to irritate it. i dont get dressed until i'm dry.
i also cant use regular deoderant- it caused an awful rash all down my sides after i shaved. i use the natural crystal one now with no problems.

When I get razor burn right out of the shower I rub dove deodorant on it. It helps alot.

^ Dove deodorant is also the only kind that works for me. Nothing else will do.

oatmeal. i swear by it.
bathe in it. the water "cooks" it and the juice is perfect for your problem.

The best way to prevent it is to trim the hairs with an electric razor, then soak in the bath tub in warm water, use coochie cream shaving lotion, a new four blade razor, then use a cream made for razor burn such as, bump stopper (made for men, but it works) sally hansen also has these pads that look like oxy pads for your face, they work wonders when you have a razor rash to stop it from burning.
