Hubby REALLY wants this sax for his birthday ina few weeks:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=024

I have crap for money right now...I dont suppose anyone knows where to get one REALLY cheap or in trade or something?? Its his 40th birthday so I want to do something special for him, and since the only thing that would make him happier then this is a 3some on his b-day and I dont know anyone right now willing to join us...lol....I was hoping someone had some info...

Sadly, that's the cheapest I've seen a saxaphone in years.

thats what he said..esp for ones like that. Sucks that I cant afford it for his 40th b-day. I'm hoping that I get a bunch of shoots or something so I have enough to pay the bills this month AND get him the sax. I feel like I shuld do something extra special for the big 4-0!!

Yeah they're normally $600 for cheap ones... asking for one cheaper than the price on that ebay auction is just near impossible. So impossible, it makes me wonder whats wrong with that one!

Does it have to be a tenor sax? Altos are a lot cheaper.

I would to ebay search in woodwinds and search for " (tenor, alto) sax " and search for 'completed' auctions to see what price range you're looking at.

I've heard that Selmers are in high demand, but there are other good brands. One thing about saxes is that olders ones usually need new corks, pads, and some alignment, as well as a mouthpiece. Of course they also need reeds and a case.

I'm not a sax guy -- a sex guy maybe, but not too knowledgable of saxes.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

You'll see ones like this.... http://cgi.ebay.com/C-G-CONN-PAN-AME...QQcmdZViewItem It sold for $312

I remember a pro sax player told me that the Selmer model 35 is the jazz player's sax.

But you need to avoid the ones from China or India etc. (CHEAP)

This might sound like a silly recommendation, and i don't know how popular craigslist is down there, but check the musical instrument section of that.

I got my piano there, 50$ plus moving fees. It might take a month or so of searching, but i bet there ARE people looking to get rid of them there. I've seen all sorts of instruments, its just a question of looking till you find that GREAT buy.

Edit---I'm looking in the portland ones, to see how mayn listings there are, and there's about 20 listings currently-most are for alto sax, but still. THey ARE out there. The alto sax range from 75$ to a grand. The tenors seem to be listed at 3-500, although there's a REALLY good quality one for a grand.

Its just pricewise, to watch for one cheaper. If you have time to keep looking, then this is how i would do it. I don't know how big of an issue quality/usage is to you and him, but moneywise, you'll be able to get it for pennies, comparatively speaking.

Musical instruments are SOOO pricey nowadays....

The one he liked was in pretty nice condition. Those always go for more. When i look for an instrument it takes me hours to go thru ebay. And then I keep looking and for several I'm interested in I hit "Watch this Item' and get notices via mail.

I wish I could help you out for his 40th like you helped me out with K's 30th!

I don't know a damn thing about saxes but I'll ask around. I'm working with a lot of music geeks. Perhaps someone will know something!

Have you tried putting an AD in the "wanted" section of craigslist?

Make a wish list with acceptable models and price ranges and I'll help you scan. I'm looking for a cheap trumpet anyway.

I dont mean to be rude but considering your recent financial troubles I think hoping for a birthday present that you have to pay hundreds of dollars for is a bit ludicrous 40th or not.
Not being homeless for the 40th is pretty special really - there are other things you can do to make the day special that are cheaper surely?

You're right which is why I cant spend hundreds on it...but I've got a few things lined up before his b-day and if I can find someone that doesnt know what they have and can get it for like $100 I'll do it. Its been such a crap year that I just want to do something special for him. He isnt really hoping for it...its a dream kind of gift...but it would be nice!

Of course he'd be just as happy with other things like a 3-some!LOL And that would be a lot cheaper if I only knew anyone here that was willing!!!

How many saxes does the guy need? Sell the ones that he doesn't like as much or use very often. I mean, selling ones that he doesn't like/want as much as the one you're looking at seems like a fair trade to me...

The ones he has are all sentimental..like the one his friend gave him right before she died. He wont be selling them. It may have to wait until Christmas...oh well...at least I can say I tried
