Default When would you work if your club was like this?

Club Nitro is only open Wed-Sat, 7-4am. If you arrive at 7, you have to stay until 4 am, a 9 hour shift, but your stage fee is the lowest (30 dollars). Each hour and a half that goes by, your stage fee gets higher. The most ideal time for me to work is 10-4, anything over 6 hours is just too much, i'll deal with the 40-45 housefee. The problem is, I WANT to work 4 days a week, but I've never worked consecutive days, my body just can't handle it- i WISH it was open 7 days a week so I could have a day off in between.

I really need to be working as much as possible right now. I worked Wednesday and Thursday back to back, and this morning when I woke up my tonsils were swollen, my throat was sore and I was congested- a sign my immune system was low from too much physical activity, contact with strangers/germs, not enough rest or food. I rested all day, and I feel better now, especially after taking goldenseal, echinacea and nettle with tons of water- but I wish that I could work every day the club is open without feeling like this!!!

If you really wanted/needed to work 4 days a week, would you just suck it up and deal? I just feel like if I push myself too hard I'm going to end up injuring myself and looking like shit from stress. I'm thinking next week I'm going to work Wed, Friday and Saturday, so I'll atleast have one day off in between, and my consecutive shifts will be busy shifts so it will be totally worth feeling like shit wakingup in the morning.

Does anyone else have this problem?? There are 15 hours between shifts!! I get home at 5 and then get ready for the club at 8... it really makes it so I have no time for my life if i have to work consecutive days. It is good though because then I get sun-tues off...

What would you do if this was your club's schedule?? I think it also might be especially taxing on my body because it's open til 4am, and staying up THAT late messes with my circadian rhythm and hormone levels.

    I can't wait until there's enough dancers/customers to be open 7 days a week....

For those of you who do work consecutive days.... how the heck do you do it???? I woke up this morning feeling like absolute hell.

the most i ever worked was five days in a row & i was a mess. i made no money the last two shifts.

the most i'll work now is two days in a row, with my third day spaced out during the rest of the week. even that is a bit much for me...i'm sick all the time & feel arthritic.

i would say work wednesday, friday, saturday. i feel ya on the hormones being off because of the crazy hours, my period has been later every month, i have crazy pms, & my skin is the worst it's been since i was about 14.

i usually work two days, then take a one or two day break, then another day. two days in a row is not that bad, especially if you then have three days to recuperate.

I usually work three or four days in a row, then three or four days at my day job. I have almost no time off.

For me, it's just the ability to relax during the day that helps me out. I work from 7pm til 2am at the club and from 1pm til 9pm at my day job, so I just sleep in, do yoga and pilates when I wake up, and then lay out on the beach til I have to get ready for work.

Relaxation seems to be key - don't worry if you can't make a day of work - call out sick or, as with my club, we can chose to not show up if we can't work certain days. So I tend to listen to my body and if it needs a break, I just call in sick or not go to the club.

I think I could easily do 3 or 4 days in a row if I only had to work 8-2 though.... working 10-4 is a huge difference.. something about being awake at a time my body has NEVER been up at makes it really taxing on my immune system and hormones. I've never been one to stay up past two on my own accord, so having to be up til 4 working, then not going to bed until 5 is really intense.

The running joke in my club.... "Don't expect to see her two days in a row".

I blame age on this..I'm only 26 but I cannot work two consecutive shifts no matter what. I need one day to work, one day to recover, one day to work....etc. etc.

BUT, I will say, when I first started dancing I LOVED working four to five days in row. I got in the mode of working...I treated it like a job for most of the week then relaxed the remaining days. I felt like a super-stripper

I know you are young, and probably more motivated then I ever was, so give it a shot. Try to get into the groove of working four day on, three days off. You might be surprised!

If I needed money & the club I was working at was only open 4 days a week, I'd be there every day until I reached my goal. I did 60 something days in a row when I was working in Nashville because I needed some cash to move, get a car, get my stuff out of storage, break my cell phone contract, get utilities, etc. Did I get sick and hate it, yes I did. But when I had that money I knew I could take time off to get myself back together.

There's a club I go to as a house dancer that you have to work 9 hour shifts (5PM-2AM) and you have to work every day for 14 days minimum, no exceptions. There's awesome money there though.

And look on the bright side...you don't have to deal with working any mandatory slow nights, like a lot of 7-day-a-week clubs that make you work one Sun, Mon or Tues a week or something. Every night that you come to work is a busy party night (even Weds is usually good since people go out wanting to blow off steam mid-week). So you never have to waste your time on sub-par shifts.

If there's one thing I've learned from this year, it's working smarter, not harder. Killing myself to work 6 nights a week is stupid; it's better to pick the busiest 4 shifts and bust my ass on those nights. And your club is only open on the good nights! So you're golden.

You could certainly try to muscle through the 4 consecutive shifts and hopefully just "get used to it". I know for myself I would die having to stay up until 5 am 4 nights in a row. I get the exact same physical symptoms you described. I used to work 4 nights in a row, get swollen glands and extreme fatigue by the 4th night, then spend my three days off totally sick. What a way to live!

The problem with asking advice about it is that we all have different constitutions. I have a friend who smokes and drinks, never exercises and dances 6 nights a week. We're all so different so you have to really learn to live with what YOUR body will allow. I would try Wed., Thurs., Sat. or Wed., Fri., Sat. Or, if you could do three nights in a row you could try a different part time job that's less taxing for earlier in the week, like Mon., Tues., Wed. then dance Thurs., Fri., Sat. Hopefully your club with start adding more days soon.

The most I ever worked was six days in a row during UFC. My body was a wreck, but I made lots of money, so that's ok.

I'd say just work wed fri sat. If it turns out you like working weeknights better, just do wed thurs sat.
