Default Still can't feel pain but...

So I checked with a few doctors and they don't know what's wrong with me. They THINK it might be a spinal injury but the pain receptors and heat receptors are SO close together any damage SHOULD have damaged both, but I feel heat and cold just fine. So now I'm off to get X-rays and things but...

One of the Australian motorcycle racers wants to sponsor me for training. Today he took me out and we went 240kph on his bike (for some effed up reason he gave me the throttle from behind and I took her to 220! But scarrrrry!!)...

Anyway he's sponsored by like, EVERYONE and wants to train me to be a racer just like him. He says since I'm new he can train me early and accurately so I can learn to race like him. It's a -huge- opportunity.

Do you think this 'not feeling pain' thing should be looked at before I start training or it a good idea to keep it now?

While there's a good chance I'll get injured on the track... it most likely won't be deadly. So if it's a rib or something it'd be GOOD not to feel it... but I dunno...

    What do you think?

I think u should wait. Pain is the way the body lets us know we are injured which is important. What if u broke your rib and didn't know and then ended up with a punctured lung?

I know a guy who fell off a roof and damaged his spine (not too severely tho) and he lost his sense of taste. But it eventually came back.

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

See... I can feel things like punctures.. I can feel the 'hole' in things just not the pain. It's SO fucking weird. I can stab myself and instead of feeling pain, I feel the knife. So if I punctured my lung I'd be like, "Huh... my rib appears to be in my lung."

But I worry like... if I knock around my kidneys or something and can't feel a bruise that's bleeding internally.. I don't know if I can feel that.

But at the same time.. that shit's gonna really hurt!!

I guess I'll tell the trainer tomorrow and ask him to wait for me. He said he's willing to work around my schedule.

Get it checked out more if you can...being in my situation is not pleasant at all. Once injured it is very easy to continue to do damage. If I'm not mistaken Annie Lennox just had some surgery to free a trapped nerve in her back...apparently some new procedures are available, at least I hope so.

My exs dad, cousins and grand dad are ex champion motorcycle racers. My ex stopped racing due to to seeing their injuries. His dad has brain damage for instance, so not deadly but not pretty either but his grandfather still rides at 90 something!
Have fun with it though, it sounds excitin but get checked out first (-:

    Yeah it's pretty fucking scary.

I'm still on the fence if it's worth it... but the speed and agility today... the... shit man... you have no idea!!! Maybe you do but... man... who needs drugs? It's a thrill and a rush and freedom all in an engine and two wheels. Taking those turns and hitting the pegs on the cement... it was killer

Oh I can do nothing but feel the pain unfortunately. I do have a "dead" area where the injury is (can feel the touch but no direct pain kinda like you are describing) and do frequently lose feeling in other parts...mostly my left leg goes dead but depending on whatever is wonky I occasionally go splat when my lower half goes dead. Apparently nerves can get "trapped" between other tissues, you can damage the nerve sheath, or it grows into other tissue which once impeded you get all the lovely fubar wonkiness.

I've learned the hard way that "doctor" is apparently a very relative term. In their defense at least in my case there are at least 3 separate specialties involved in the nature of my injury....however none seem to be able to come with a macro solution to the problem...and most frightening is usually they contradict each other. Spine injuries suck, I wouldn't fuck around with it....I can say no more than you would really hate to deal with the hell that my life has become. Not sayin' ya shouldn't ride cause thats' cool and fun but get the problem checked out just in case.

let's say it's something in your brain... what say it puts the lights out one day on the track and you do manage to kill yourself at hideous speed?

have you had an MRI? maybe rule out something growing in your brain before you go screaming round the track like something out of star wars...
