    Default weave versus clip in...

Sorry if this has been posted already, I have been trawling through all the extension threads and my brain hurts.

I just wanted a few peoples opinions if they have had both types, what did you prefer and why? A weave (like where they do a braid across your head and sew hair onto it) or clip in extensions. What lasts longer? Are clip ins hard to get the hang of?

    Thanks !!

I like weave because it feels lighter but I like clip ins because I can take them out easily on a hot day or whatever. So it depends on what kind of hair Im using for me. Clips ins tend to feel heavy on my head since I have thin hair all the metal clips are bothersome and sew in is a bit more flowy since the clips are heavy. Hope this helps.

Thanks Golden it does! How long do your sewn in ones normally last for?

Also if you use clip ins, I'm looking at buying some online, how many would you use? I really just want them for colour and body...

ETA - I have thin hair too

I used clip ins, for the same reason as Wild_Flower. My hairdresser was pretty adamant about me not getting hair extensions, she said in the long run there was no real healthy hair extension out there, that they would all cause some kind of damage over time. (She's been doing my hair for over 20 years so when she talks I listen!)

The clip ins were hair dresser approved! They work great once you get the hang of putting them in. The only problem, my hair dresser notices a bald spot in the lower back of my hair, in the exact area that I would clip in the bottom row, so be sure to move the row around a bit to avoid that.

I've done both. I hate clip ins. My real hair is too thin and you could see the clip in if my hair moved slightly. It also fell out a couple of times.

I also hate weaves. It hurts getting it done and it feels heavy. I had lots of headaches while the weave was in.

Now I have the type of extensions where they are little individual metal things that hold the hair in and I love it!! absolutely love it. I dont know what its called tho.

Clip ins are better for me. I think before you do any make sure your hair is in great/good shape though. JMO

i had both, and i prefer a weave ujst cause its basically stuck to your head. but clips are great when you wanna give your hair a "break" from fusion.

i like clip ins. i have alot of hair but its thinner so i just tease my hair at the root before i clip them in. i bought mine at sallys for like 80$ and they ended up matching my hair exactly. they feel heavy the first week you wear them but after that i got used to them. i like being able to take them out after work because thats like the only time i want to do my hair. on my days off i just want to throw my hair in a pony tail, so i dont want to have to deal with the extra hair.

I did clip ins for a while, and I really suck at doing hair, but they worked well for me.

I stopped using them because I was always so scared a customer would put his hands in my hair and feel them. And they were so hot.
This winter I might try them again though.

What should I expect when I get a weave. I've had people tell me you get a head ache for the first few days... any other bad things to watch out for?

Me too, I'm like 'don't touch the hair!'
I've only ever tried clip ins, love them but they do get hot and tangled.

Sophia- If you're not used to having your hair braided tightly, you will get a headache, you may get the asian eye look. small white bumps on the hair line. And if it itches, pat your head instead of scratching

I'm assuming you're getting it braided in? It will itch like a mother fucker. Patting my head didn't do anything, I itched constantly and you will have a headache the first few days. When I finally took the weave out my head felt 14074980124 pounds lighter. I wasn't able to wash my hair thoroughly for the time I had it in and it felt so gross. It was also kind of difficult for me to conceal the wefts and it took FOREVER to do my hair. I'm not really *that* good with hair so it look fabulous when I first walked out of the hair salon but after the first week it started to go downhill.

I'm glad I did it, because now I know that I hate having it in and I'll just wait for my natural hair to grow but I really wouldn't recommend it. I'll never do it again. Let me know if you have any other questions! I can even try to dig up some pictures of me through various stages of having it in.

I just want a few rows of braids to add more fullness in the back of my hair. I bleach the heck out of my hair and a lot of it broke off in the back. I figure some weave would help me look and feel better.

Wow... I had no idea bout the itch factor

I like clip ins because of the variety - I buy wefts of human hair and some clips and make different lengths and styles. I also like the fact I can take them out anytime I want. They don't itch or get horribly matted and are way less upkeep then when I had a full head of Great Lengths in. They are also inexpensive.

My hair is so much healthier now that I got rid of my Great Lengths (been over 2 years now). My real hair comes down by my bra strap now but I can still make it longer/thicker/wavy etc. with the clips.

I'm using clip in's now and am loving 'em! I bought tons of diferent colors, lengths, etc. + a bunch of the clips and am making my own. It's a great way to drastically alter my look with no commitment. One day I have blue streaks, the next black choppy layers, etc. Hooray!

The itch factor never went away for me.. eventually it will drive you crazy and you'll actually start scratching your head. I actually had a nightmare last night that I still had a braid in the back of my head and it was super itchy ahaha

I've had both and the clip ins are fun but you have to be careful if you don't have a lot of hair because sometimes the clips show through. If you have slippery hair they'll slide a little and you'll have to go and re clip them often. Weaves are nice because they're attached haha but its a lot of upkeep - mine were re done every three to four weeks. The itching gets better after a while the trick is to stand in the shower and rinse like crazy to get the shampoo out. The other thing is if your hair is brittle it could snap off a bit from being braided tightly. After having both kinds im going to get strand by strand extensions because its less upkeep.
