Oooh me too! I was trying to find someplace where I would be a novelty since I never got to go to Iceland and dancing there is illegal now. Maybe that will be my next destination. So do girls from the U.S. have to do anything special to work in Canada?

The club needs to get you temporary work permit. They have to prove there is a shortage of exotic dancers in the area and that they advertised for local Canadian exotic dancers.

If you are a feature or a specialty show then it is much easier for the club to obtain the work permit for you.

    http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplace...bulletin.shtml

Maybe if this club is is such a secluded area they do have a shortage and it would be easy for them to obtain a work permit for American (or any foreign) dancer.

Best bet is to call the club and ask if they can get you the permit.
Otherwise you can try your luck with working illegally. Which entails lying to Canadian immigration and praying your bags don't get searched and they find your stripper gear.
Or just ship it ahead of time

trust me, canidian immigration is no fucking joke. theyve detained me at the border for some crap before that had to do with working there. you need to be careful what you say to them thats for sure, if you have no permit, just remember that you are on holiday, that is all. i mean even if they did ffind your gear, whats to say youre using it to work ya know??

I'm wondering if a previous misdemeanor drug possession charge from 1996 or 1997 will cause me problems at immigration. I have been licensed in Las Vegas and my case got deferred adjudication. But I know Canada will not let you in if you've had a past drug record.

I don't think my old charge even appears on my record, at least I know there is no conviction. Anyone have any insight?

For the record, it was just a misdemeanor marijuana charge and that's the only problem I've had, and I don't smoke anymore!

I'm from Montreal, originally, and though it is certainly not legal, our marijuana laws are pretty lax on enforcement. This also rings true in Ontario. I am not saying they don't exist, but they are often overlooked.

Newfoundland, I am not sure of. I'd do some research on google or call the club in question to verify their local laws.

The agency mentioned lists a LOT of clubs on their site... have you danced at any of the others?

No work permit needed because you'd be working illegally. Every American citizen who wants to do any sort of work in Canada would legally need a work permit or visa of some kind. That is a fact.

Girls should beware that club management will NOT always tell you the truth about what is legally allowed or required, and what is not. You need to find out for yourself so you can make your own decision on what risks you're willing to take.

**Warning to all girls wanting to go here**
I was emailing with someone named Eric at the email address [email protected] and he was super nice and informative, gave me info on the dancer housing and stuff... but then after I sent him my pictures I didn't hear anything back from him again. I tried asking if he'd received them, but nothing. Sooooooo today I got the balls to call the club itself and see what was up. They told me no one named Eric works there and the only email address that they use is [email protected] !!
I'm so creeped out and I just wanted to share that with anyone who's thinking of going there. The man on the phone was super nice and helpful, and I've only heard good things about the club.

p.s I found that email from this website: http://www.cottonclub.nfldaddendum.com/home.php
in a google search...... the real, new website is www.thecottonclub.ca

Yeah unfortunately I found out the hard way!! Let's just say I never made my booking and wasted a bit of money Also last time I spoke to Roger he said they weren't booking any more American girls because there were too many issues with immigration and he didn't want the company or the club to be under any scrutiny. I'd still love to go if I can figure out how to get a visa and do things the right way which I would've done in the first place if I wasn't misinformed. I'm new to this whole international travel thing.

I'm reading this thread and laughing my ass off. The OP made Newfoundland sound so appealing, but trust me, you don't wanna live there....it's miserable. Essp. for foreigners...

^ LOL. I suppose I couldn't call NFLD "awful" since most of my family originates from there, but I don't think I could ever live there. 1) It's fucking cold 2) It's too small. St. john's is a very small East Coast town... you can't really expect much from it. It's not a tourist destination or business hot spot so I assume all the customers would be real local. I suppose they'd have navy an shipping boys though.

I was born and raised there, and it IS that cold.....Oh god, and the massive amounts of snow that wouldn't go away... Not much fun having to get up to shovel out the driveway at 5:30am so you could get to school/work. Groceries are awfully expensive, the cost of living is really high. The biggest city is small by most standards.

And the Cotton Club itself isn't really that nice of a club. My dad was best friends with one of the previous owners (they went to grade school together an all) and it was sleazy back then. Dirty and extras were encouraged. They're apparently under new management/owners now, so I don't know how it's been lately...

I'm glad the OP had a positive experience. Mind you, from what I remember, any girl who travels to dance at this club will be VERY disappointed.

^Thanks I was gonna say... I personally thought it was freaking cold. I haven't lived there but anytime I visited and from what my family members say its much colder than Ontario where I was raised. But didnt want to comment since I haven't spent enough time there. Friggen ice bergs are floating past St. Johns! I remember last time I went there (was about 6 years ago before I moved to Australia) it was 18 for 2 weeks in August! WTF! and gas was ridiculous. I can't remember how much but it was a lot more expensive than Ontario I remember. A lot of my relatives have left NFLD and moved to ONT... a few moved back because they found the fast pace of Toronto to be too much.

    From Environment Canada's website:

    St. John's: Canada's Weather Champion

Of all the major Canadian cities, St. John's is the foggiest (124 days, next to Halifax's 122), snowiest (359 cm, next to Quebec City's 343), wettest (1514 mm, next to Halifax's 1491), windiest (24.3 km/h average speed, next to Regina's 20.7), and cloudiest (1497 hours of sunshine, next to Charlottetown's 1818 hours). It also has more days with freezing rain and wet weather than any other city. But the natives are proud of their climate, calling it character-building and invigorating. And they boast that their city happens to have one of the mildest winters in Canada (third mildest city next to Victoria and Vancouver). Perhaps Townies also happen to appreciate a fine weather day more than the rest of Canadians.

THAT made me LOL! Oh Newfies, they're right, it IS character building.

I took my Texan-born BF back to visit with me two summers ago. He was there about 14 days, a not ONE day of sun. Not ONE! And Signal Hill was so foggy he couldn't tell it was even over-looking the Atlantic (aside from the noise). It was SO disappointing! I wanted him to see the beauty of the Island, not the worst of the weather! He wore a Columbia winter coat the whole time.

It's good to hear that the Cotton Club sounds like it's gotten a bit nicer. I don't know much about Sirens, and I wasn't aware there's another club in St. John's? Which one is that?

BTW, Lexigirl - I read on your profile you're 24? If you grew up in town chances are we went to the same HS for a while (I went to about 4 different ones in town, got expelled a lot lol). I'm sure you want to keep your anomininity (and I want to keep mine) but funny to think about. Small world.

Notice you said PREVIOUS owner. I have also worked at The Cotton Club and I can say confidently there was nothing dirty about it. It was a super nice club and I have very positive experience and made great money. As did all my friends who have worked there.

Though I have heard recently the owner has gone off the deep end and stopped booking quality girls and has let it go for shit. Im not sure though.

As for Newfoundland. I love it there. Its a beautiful province and the people are great. I can't find anything bad to say about it and I can say its nothing compared to the weather in the prairies.

There was never a Janelle when I was there. Things have changed. Todd is an idiot lol. He stopped booking features and having quality girls from the mainland and focuses all his energy on partying. He had Miss Nude Canada booked there and then last second stopped having any communication with the pageant people so they scrambled to find a club. Glad they still have some decent girls there though. I loved Cotton Club

Yea but he used to pay for their flights and he doesn't anymore.

Heh when I was there he was shit faced all the time with his then gf. It was a riot he kept feeding me booze telling me he would have me back all the time. The next time I was booked he canceled my contract 3 days before I flew out saying no more features. Bastard.

    Is Tina still there?
