Default my mom thinks she's black

this could not be farther from the truth.

yet she subscribes to jet and vibe and black entrepreneur magazine, is a fifty year old white woman going to young black clubs to dance with young black men, hits on every black man she sees, and today told me she had a profile on blackplanet.com .

which is a black singles website.

    what??

I love it too. This is funny. Although for the record, I subscribe to Vibe and I'm of Nordic descent. I love hip hop and rap.

she's nuts in general. went off on a manic episode a year and a half ago and hasn't come back yet.

    other delusions include:

thinking people she meets are secretly celebrities. she is SURE that she hangs out with Mos def (which she pronounces incorrectly as moss def, not mose def), nicholas cage, johnny depp, ice T(?!?)

that kiefer sutherland is her soul mate and comes to her at various points in her life in different forms and personas because they're truly meant to be together (she dated this guy for a few months who she insists was one of his forms. she also tried to tell me kiefer sutherland was my real father)

that a kitten we had wanted her to take it for a drive. when she came back scratched the hell up, it was pretty clear he did NOT want to go driving, but she said he was just a little apprehensive at first and liked it after awhile. she was attempting to teach him how to steer and had him in her lap.

and once she had a completely imaginary boyfriend, that she bought stuff for, and went on dates with. she was under the impression that he was always there, but hidden, basically stalking her. and she found this very romantic.

we've tried everything we can to help her, and nothing has worked, so at this point its just easier to laugh it all off instead of letting it break our hearts.

i just thought this particular delusion was pretty funny.

yeah. we had her institutionalized for a week. we've had counselors call her, we've done everything legally possible.

she thinks they love it, because they take pictures of her on their cell phones and are all stoked to dance with her.

my mom is a huge joke for the young black community right now.

    which is weird.

nah. she insists nothing's wrong and that we're all exaggerating blah blah blah. totally delusional and denies everything. there's just nothing left to do about it.

bi-polar disorder is hereditary, and now knowing that my mom has it, i can look back and see minor episodes that i've had and didn't realize at the time.

at least i'll have a heads up if i ever totally lose it.

don't feel bad about laughing at it. that's really the only thing you can do.

I don't know how I feel about this anymore. One one hand it's funny. On the other hand it's sad. It's good you can see the comedy in it but I'm sure it's also hard to watch and live with.

That sounds like a cool life (as long as she really believes it).

    more on the original topic:

my mom always gets her picture taken with santa claus. last year when we went to the mall to try and have it done, we went too late and santa had already left. so we went to starbucks, and my mom started flirting with this attractive, well dressed black guy, and asked him that since santa wasn't there, if he would mind playing santa and letting us take a picture of her sitting on his lap.

i was mortified and had to leave the starbucks.

but my best friend took the picture, and looking at it now it's pretty funny.

aawww...what a sweetheart. at least she is expressing that she is loving, open minded and rather creative i'd say. the mental image of her dancing with the boys is pretty adorable.

    Double R:

Mental illness or not, your mother is living in the moment, and on her own terms. How many people ever spend even one day living like that?

Although her carefree bliss seems to be causing your family some unfortunate distress, the mixed blessing (IMO) is that your mother appears comfortable, secure and loved...

P.S. My siggie pic was up a full day before you started this thread...

    yeah.

i didn't post this on here for pity or anything, so don't think that (if that were a case it would have been a "my mom is bipolar and ruining my life" thread. i just found this to be really funny and thought that you all would as well.

if nothing else, maybe you'll look at batshit old ladies in a new way, or take closer looks at yourself if someone tells you you're behaving weirdly.
