Default What to expect from a pole dancing class

I recently moved to the Connecticut area and to my joyful surprise there is a pole dancing class! it's 180 dollars for like 6 or 8 classes I believe. Three different levels I- II- and...duh duhhh-- III!

Now, I have never taken a class but can do simple spins, climbs, and can even hang upside down- What should I expect in a pole class? I want to have fun and feel comfortable and not be competing with snarky girls although I am fully aware they are EVERYWHERE!

What should I wear? should I start off at the basic level? is this a fair price? all and any info is game!

I would call the studio. If the owner is an ex-dancer, she might let you try out the class for free or something - or offer you a job teaching a class -- giving you access to free pole practice or jam sessions with other pole divas.

Thats an awesome price from what I've seen. Classes where I am start at 70$ for 1 so I haven't taken any.

    Hi dear,
I was at the same stage as you (being able to do some inverted moves, and most spins) but I started off on a complete beginners pole class because my sister wanted to try it I must admit for the firt few weeks I was a little bored as I already knew the moves, but as I was doing it for fitness the classes soon became a hell of a workout having to repeat moves and put them into routines (more challenging than what I would do in the SC).
Plus you may get taught easier ways to perform moves, or have your technique corrected.
I think you will find snarkiness is absolute minimum in these classes, its mostly groups of a few friends, and people ont heir own who are looking for a bit of fun.
The price is fair, i'm paying $120 for 10 classes but that was after a lot of searching.
It's probably best to talk to the instructor about your experience level and find out what level of class you should be taking.

Just keep in mind that you get what you pay for in these circumstances. Cheaper is NOT better!

    (from experience)
I think the only reason that a teacher would not want a dancer in her class is the attitude of the dancer.
Often you find that a dancer's repertoire is missing bits and pieces, or technique needs correcting.
I have found that [the ones who have been to my classes] don't like to be corrected, or have to be in a lower class because of missing elements.
Often they come with a small repertoire, and just ask to be shown "trick x" or "trick y" because they saw someone do it, but they don't yet have the strength or technique for that.

My level 2 class requires you to be able to invert confidently. I had a dancer come to my level 2 class, and she couldn't invert at all (even having been asked on the phone if she could). she then nearly CRIED because I asked her to come to my level 1 class where I could sort it out for her. She said she already new ALL spins so didn't need to, but then couldn't do a level 1 spin that I showed her (as I couldn't show her the level 2 tricks!). She never showed up to the level 1 class the following week!

Geez. sorry. I didn't mean to write so much!

Anyway. just wear some workout kit. some little sports shorts should be fine!
Remember that if the teacher has not been a dancer, she may not be able to teach "dancer style".

good call. I think they have a "tease night" for 15 dollars that I would be better off signing up for to see what it's like
