    Default curly issues.

so, i have naturally curly, curly, curly, thick, coarse hair. i straighten it once a week (sundays), wrap it up a night, usually touch it up with my flat iron every day, and wash it the next sunday, and straighten it again. this has been my routine for the past two years or so, given there are times when i wear it curly for time's & sanity's sake. lol.

but ever since i've been dancing, i've never worn it naturally curly. i've straightened it, then curled it... but i'd never dream of wearing my natural curls. they seem so unmanagable & i feel like a lion.

but at my club all the girls have long straight hair, & i want to stand out a bit. i also want to give my hair a break.

sooooo, to all my curly shirly's.... what products do you reccomend that can tame the curly main? & what hairstyles, besides just down are sexy with curly hair?

& ultimately, is curly hair even sexy??? i've never thought so, but eh... i'd like to change my mind!

this is one of the only pictures containing a glimpse of the natural do, lol... i took it to show my cousin how good my flat iron is.

omg---- our hair is the exact same texture... really really tight ringlets that are like an S shape. I do the same thing- but I straighten and wash it about 3 times a week because it always gets sweaty at work. I've worn my natural hair texture to work TWICE in my dancing career, I didn't really notice a difference in my money, but I felt like a freaking lion, like you said. I use paul mitchell moisturizing mousse to keep the curls defined and un-frizzy. I would wear it curly more often if it wern't fo rthe length- I hate how I lose like 3 inches wearing it curly because it shrinks up so much! I wish there were extensions I could clip in that matched my hair texture. and yeah curly hair is sexy!! You should try wearing it natural on a slow night like monday or tuesday and see how it goes over- it will probably be good because you'll be so unique- all the girls there straighten their hair.... sometimes they use a curling iron, but it's still not natural curl

thnks, keira, i'm going to try the paul mitchell moisturizing mousse. the only problem i have with mousse, is that most of the time it makes my hair all crunchy & than i feel like douche with crunchy hair. totally mid 90's.

i'm searching for something that keeps the curls defined & smooth... but when i try creams or serums, i just end up looking like i have a geri curl! so gross! ew.

& i feel you on your length dilemma! if my hair were a lot longer, or at least as long as it is when it's straight, i'd wear it curly way more often. & i've searched far & wide for extensions that match our texture, & the only thing i've found is the cheap synthetic crap... & it's way to shiny & fake looking. plus they rarely come in more than 22" which is what i'd need.

& yeah, a couple of girls at the club use a curling iron sometimes... but it's not the same look, at all.

& how the hell did you end up this texture hair?! lol, i'm half black, so i blame my dad. lol.

idk how I got this hair.... it's really weird. My sister has white girl, fine textured straight hair, my brother has the same, and i have a freaking lion's mane afro. I'm half italian and the rest of my is irish and native american so I have no clue where it comes from... I'm guessing the italian. It's crazy hair! I'm wearing it curly for the first time in like 2 months today and i feel like a totally different person with it. Also... I know it's bad, but spraying it with dimethicone and silicone shine sprays keeps the curls looking nice and spirally instead of frizzy

    this is my hair..

I can't believe you've been straightening that. It's so beautiful curly.

This whole flat-iron fad makes me want to cry. Curly hair is so much sexier - bounce and texture and sex appeal and personality! Flat hair just lies, well, flat. Not that straight hair can't be sexy too, but you really don't have to flatten curly hair to be sexy!

yeah, i'd say it has the be the italian. it is very pretty tho. the one thing i do appreciate about our type of hair is that we have A LOT of versatility & options. we can go straight, straight then curl it. girls with naturally straight hair have resort to chemical options to have their hair look how ours does naturally. granted we have to put in a lot of work... i've learned to live with it.

& yeah, i'd say your hair looks a little softer to the touch. mine is very, very coarse. so even when i wear it straight, it doesn't look natural... or have the white girl silky look. does yours when you straighten it??

true.... but it's nice to be able to run your fingers through your hair without them getting caught and messing up your curls... and it's easier to style hair once it's been straightened, curling iron curls look better on my that my natural curls, my natural curls just look crazy and uneven.

oh yeah- I forgot. Aveda hang straight lotion works REALLY well. It relaxes the curl a little bit, no frizz, and separates. I have it in my hair now (that picture isn't from today) and my hair is actually pretty straight at the top... it usually starts curling at the root but it isn't today.

When I straighten mine and put product in it and extensions it does look very natural.. unless I start to sweat from dancing and it curls up around the edges and gets frizzy. It doesn't look as fine textured as other girls' at work who straighten their hair though...at least up close it doesn't. Here's a picture of it straightened and then curled with curly extensions and straightened with straight extensions..

yek, well thank you! but it's the whole grass is greener syndrome. i have a big insecure complex when i wear it curly, i feel as if everyone is staring at me thinking, "wow, i bet if i threw a pencil in there, it'd get stuck." which it would.

when i straighten my hair, as opposed to the picture i posted, i usually add a lot a volume via hairspray & backcoming & then curling the ends with a curly iron. a lot of work, hence why i'm trying to get over this damn insecurity!

I have hair just like yours, very thick. I have tried about every expensive product, and the only thing that makes my hair nice is.. $1 a can white rain mousse..extra hold. i havent worn my hair straight for years and i get compliments all the time from men and women outside and inside the club! i always thought it was a curse, but now i love it when guys come in the club looking for a curly head and he only has me to choose from

I'd love to see hairstyles anyone posts, also...I just always wear mine down.

    ps: im Italian also

keaira, i love your hair curly... but to me the pics w/ straight hair just seems more, polished, at least in terms of strippery. they're two very different looks. curly is sexy, but so is straight.

this is usually how i wear it when i dance. straightened & curl the upper layers with a small barrel curling iron. don't mind my armpit that needs some shavin lol.

My hair is worse than yours, it's frizzy and nasty looking, Back in the day I tryied every product there was for curly frizzy hair, example, redken mitchell, mop, tigi, nexxus, plus others and let me tell you the only products that gave me beautiful, controlled, glossy, frizz-free hair was frizz-off curly hair products I swear by them trust me, you can buy the curl starter kit for 19.95, the product that I purchase the more in 33.5fl. oz. this stuff is worth its weight in gold. It's the bomb the website is www.frizzoff.com

Biolage has some nice "help my hair curl up" products and they don't leave your hair all stiff and crunchy..

Come closer and listen to me my pretties....
After 15 years of straightening my curly hair, Ive found a whole network of people just like us...go to www.naturallycurly.com and read up on the shampoo free method!!
    Dont laugh.
Oh yeah, and Biotera gel from Sally beauty supply in soaking wet hair is awesome, wait for it to dry and then Scrunch out the crunch and you have nice hydrated curls.

You can buy some Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue pudding. I have some, and it really refines my curls. Or, you could just make your own curly hair pudding. I have a recipe somewhere. I'll try to find it for you.

My hair is wavy/curly horse tail thick and I even get the "naps" underneath my neck in the back - Redkin also makes some good stuff for our kind of hair.

Wow you have beautiful hair. I have tired EVERYTHING but keep going back to cheapo Tresemme mousse. I wear it curly at work (very rarely) and it can get pretty poofy, but in the SC environment poofy is sexy and showy, unlike IRL where poofy can look kinda bad. I throw it up in a high ponytail if it gets too out of hand and wear a schoolgirl outfit or something of the sort which fits the ponytail look a little better than a sexy outfit.
Another plus to wearing it curly at work is that mousse and serum smell really good and stay in hair way longer than straightening products, and guys always comment on how delicious my hair smells when its curly.

I think big poofy hair is soooo hot. Especially when it's long. It looks goddessy to me.

Anyone watch that "Search fo rthe next PussyCat Doll" last year? There was a tall girl there who they kept referring to as a Goddess. It was her HAIR. If my hair were longer, i would SO wear it as big and curly as possible. I think it'd work on the east coast. Maybe not down south? I don't know.

Don't they have those straightening perms from Japan here now? They look great and last for a LONG time.

I used to work with a dancer with that EXACT same hair. She was a top earner and had scads of regulars. Your curly hair is an asset.

didn't do a thing for my hair. I got it done as my 16th birthday present... japanese thermal reconditioning right?? cost like 300 dollars and took like 4 freaking hours... didn't do shit. It straightened the curl out a little bit, but I couldn't just step out of the shower and air-dry to perfectly straight, sleek glossy hair like they advertised and made it out to be. I was so pissed. It made blow drying and straightening easier, cut my total straightening time down from an hour and a half to 45 minutes, but it really.... was a waste of money.
