I have just started using 5-HTP this morning. I heard that it's good for curing insomnia, so does this mean that I will not have to take melatonin now? Are there bad reactions from taking 5-HTP and melatonin in the same day?

Hmmmmm....I'm guessin since melatonin is so natural...would it even make that much of difference if you did or didnt stop taking it. See how the 5-HTP works with you....regroup with your doc..then determine weather or not it would be beneficial to continue taking Melatonin or not.
I would like to know myself. Is it ok to take melatonin AND those over he counter liquid sleep aid capsules that ya find at walmart or the pharmacy.

5-HTP and Melatonin are very safe to take together. Studies have shown (and from personal experience) that they work well together for promoting sleep as well. You can buy them in combination too.
Whether you want to go that way is up to you, it doesn't matter. If 5-HTP is enough then whatever, right? Maybe give it a shot?




5-HTP should boost your serotonin levels during the day. During the day, serotonin converts to melatonin, so you should have higher melatonin levels naturally by the time evening rolls around, and this may mean you don't have to take melatonin, or simply may want to reduce the amount you take.
Melatonin puts me out pretty quick, especially when I combine it with 5-HTP. 5-HTP is also great for stress if you take it in small doses throughout the day.
The only I've noticed is really weird and vivid dreams. Sometimes I have crazy nightmares from melatonin.

5-HTP has a pretty quick effect. I usually feel it kicking in around the half-hour to hour mark. The duration is about six hours, so if you're taking multiple doses throughout the day, the last one should be 6+ hours before bedtime. Start low (50-100 mg) as if you take too much it can make you agitated and irritable.)
