Who is (or was) a FULL time student AND stripped to pay for it?

I'm going to be a FULL time student...at a university...living on campus. Obviously, i need to pay for it, so i'm gonna continue dancing.

    Who has done this before?

How hard is it to stay focused on class and dancing??? How bout dancing just weekends? Is it enough money to support yourself and pay the bill????

What about hiding your dancing stuff from your roommate and other friends??

Ever had a teacher walk into your club???

All this is stuff i worry about being a dancer and going to school full time...

    HELP!!!!!!

I go to school M-F, and work Th-Sat. I have one early afternoon class on F, and it kills me. And yes, only working three days a week is more than enough money for me.

I'm a full time student but I have a scholarship, so IDK about that case but I do pay all my other bills, school bills aside.

How hard is it to stay focused on class and dancing??? How bout dancing just weekends? Is it enough money to support yourself and pay the bill????
It's not hard to stay focused with both. I just make sure I finish my homework the day it was assigned and since I have class Tues and Thurs I know that I am relatively stress free Friday on.

What about hiding your dancing stuff from your roommate and other friends??
You can only hide for so long. I let my roommates know from the get go and yeah there was some judging but they soon realized that not all strippers are dead beats.

Ever had a teacher walk into your club???
Yes. This isn't that big of a deal because he wants to save his ass 10x more than you need to save yours. That would be a pretty big deal for him, so in my experience we both pretended it never happened.

It can be a little hard to focus on work because you're thinking about school, but that's part of why I am a whole diff person at work. I'm changing to 2 shifts a week now-I hope it's enough! LOL Granted I have grants/loans to pay the tuition part so I am mostly paying rent, car, food, a whole crap load of debt, etc.

What about hiding your dancing stuff from your roommate and other friends??

My current roomies think I am a VIP host at Ricks. I don't really want to have that discussion with them. You can keep your stuff in the car and wash it when they aren't home, but if you're in a dorm/room sharing situation, well...hide your money. Get a lockbox and get it to the bank ASAP the next day. I would try and play off that you're a 'bartender/night shift call center rep' as long as possible.

Ever had a teacher walk into your club???

Not yet! But I work an hour from my home. Guys come in frommy town all the time though.

I had classes Mon-Fri and danced weekends and it was enough to live comfortably but i couldnt really put much in my savings. I chose to tell a couple of people at University what i did but most people dont need to know. Also i found it quite refreshing to go to work and socialise and have a drink after a week of reading, studying and sitting in the library but sometimes i did feel kinda jealous when everyone was talking about their weekend plans on Friday afternoon and i had to run home shower, eat then get to work. xx

Last year I danced while living on campus and attending school full time... it was much easier than working a regular part time job. Less hours required and the money is good. And I made more than enough just working fridays and saturdays. When I did my fafsa, I got some grants and I had a scholarship so paying for the school wasn't too bad. Make sure you fill out your fafsa early if you haven't done so already.

I didn't tell anyone in the dorms, just my roommate. But I trust her and she's a very close friend. The front desk person would see me leave at like 6 pm in full make-up and sweatpants with a bookbag... and then come back at 4am.lol. Make sure that you don't live in one of those dorms that implement a curfew on their residents.

I told 2 of my friends and it wasn't really a problem hiding it. Most of em don't go to strip clubs and they don't need to know where I am at ALL times.

If you go to a big university then it's not a huge deal, as far as teachers coming in because you might recognize them, but they won't recognize you. In most of my classes there are so many students that we are all just a student number to the professor. If a teacher were to actually recognize you tho, don't worry about it. You two are both adults and you are not doing anything illegal so he/she should respect that.

If your club has a flexible schedule(as in you can come and ago as you please) it's even more ideal... sometimes when I was bored w. no hw to worry about I'd go in on the occasional weekday... sometimes I wouldn't go to work for 2-3 weeks because I'd be so swamped with classes. But I didn't run low on money, just be responsible! I always set a budget for myself every week.

I don't know how your area is and how much the school charges for housing, but at the end of the year I realized I spent a shitload of money on dorms. So this year, I am now sharing a house w. other students that is located right next to my school. Not only do I have more space but it's also cheaper. Schools really try to suck as much money as they can out of their students. So if you are looking to save money maybe there are other students looking for roomies?

    good luck w. school!

    Me

I suggest not living on campus though. Too much party opportunity to distract you from course work. Maybe look into getting a cheap studio or 1 bedroom apartment instead.

Never had a teacher come into a club but I did one time have a landlord. Well former landlord and yeah, it was weird because he knew me as a person rather than a stripper. He sat at the stage and then realized who I was and while he didn't get all funky or pervy about it he did offer to buy a dance. I gave some excuse about having to clean up from stage and just hid in the dressingroom until he left. It just seems icky for some reason to dance for this man.

My school has over 20,000 students on the main campus....so its pretty big. But I really don't want my roommates or any of my other classmates to know where i work. I think i'm gonna go with the "waitress" thing. I haven't known them long enough to trust them with knowing what i do... lock box is a good idea tho, and my bank has a branch on campus....so thats good

I went to a big school too. I took a year off and started dancing in the meantime started dancing and I'm going back to uni in January.

Frankly, dancing isn't going to pay everything for me. In this area $200 a night is considered pretty good and isn't going to cut it. But I will dance to help things along. I could certainly pay my living expenses working a lot less than I would in another job.

I HAVE had a teacher come into the club but it had been a couple terms since I'd been in his class so I don't think he recognized me. I drive almost an hour to work so it helps a little but then again it's still the closest club to my town so I do see students from my school there quite a bit.

well, i have to make $3600 by the end of this semester...so thats about 3 months...

i figure if i can make $600- 800 per weekend...i'll be fine...but thats IF i can make that much...200 a night would be enough for me to pay the bill and have a lil bit to live off of if i watch my finances and don't spend on unnecessary things like shopping trips and all that other shit...

I'm gonna try my hardest to get another private loan tho...

I danced through Graduate School, waitressed throughout my Bachelor's. Frankly I wouldn't have made it through Grad school in London if I hadn't been stripping. You will absolutely make enough money by just working weekends. It is tough but as long as you are not partying too much on the other nights you will make it through, that's more likely to interfere than working.

I did it last year and it was so stressful I ended up dropping out and have been taking time off ever since. But I had a unique situation because i had a loser boyfriend I was paying for too,

If I had to do it again (which I will, when I decide to go back), I don't think I'll have any problem balancing work with school, I can make enough money just working thurs-fri-sat and can focus on school the other days.

    Who has done this before?

i apply for grants every semester and i'm usually able to pay for at least most of my classes and books. however, i have a LOT of supply costs because i'm pursing a fine arts degree. i have to pay those out of pocket. i dance because the schedule allows me to go to school full time/have time for studying/etc. there's no way i could work 60 hrs a week and go to school full time.

How hard is it to stay focused on class and dancing??? How bout dancing just weekends? Is it enough money to support yourself and pay the bills????

that's what's most difficult. i do this because i only need to work 3 shifts typically. BUT when it's really slow and money is crappy, i find myself having to work more often. that turns into me going from class to work, back to class, etc. ...and at worst.. skipping class to go to work. during those times (like right now)i'm almost never not-at-work-or-school. it can get really stressful... especially when you have to like, do 1/2 your make-up before class so you don't look too "strippery" and the other half when you get to work. not to mention you have to remember to bring your books to work or your dance clothes to school, etc.

What about hiding your dancing stuff from your roommate and other friends??

i live with my BF, so this isn't an issue for me. if i lived with roommates though, i wouldn't hide it. as for friends, all my friends know.

Ever had a teacher walk into your club???
no, but i used to teach, and i've had past students walk into my club.

I have paid my tution dancing and I am just 5% away from paying it all off, Ive run into some people that were "familar", but if you keep focused on your goal then it should'nt bother you who happens to walk into your club. Its the best feeling to know you paid your tuition yourself while hearing other students bitch and complain about how they struggled to make ends meet.
There may be some opposition and tests you might encounter if people think or assume you got by through dancing, but all of this just makes you stronger if you let it.

I danced while going to college. Never saw anyone I knew come into the club. Then again I commuted to school and danced a half hour from my home. It was easy because I generally didn't dance the night before a morning class. Ironically, at the same time. many of the other dancers were also students so a few would study between breaks.

I don't think I could have done it. I danced for 8+ years and now am going to school full time. I had a year off between dancing and school and now qualify for financial aid for "retraining" lol!

I think dancing and going to school would be a lot easier than trying to work full time and go to night school. I've known people who have done the night school thing, and it just looks totally exhausting.

I did it, but then one semester I had to take a night class. I think it ran from 2 to 8. Anyway, totally screwed up my schedule and I ended up dropping out for that semester. I have to wait until they offer it during the daytime.

I did it! I wouldnt call it easy, but doable. I was never "exposed" by teachers or students, I had enough money to cover all bills and then some. I left all work related stuff in my work locker. dancing got me through my batchelorss and hopefully my law degree (toot toot)

Doin' it. This semester is the first I'm full time (I was part time the past couple). I just started stripping, so I can't say much, but...

Prioritize and always have your homework and research done ASAP. It will SAVE you. The first time I went to school I wasn't even paying for it and I flunked out -- boys, booze and partying were so much more interesting. Paying my own way through school made everything really simple. Slacking only punished me. In some sick way, it's been the discipline I need.

All my friends know I do sex work. I wouldn't care if someone at school found out but it hasn't happened yet.

I'm starting in january and will be full time at a very intense school...so I am working as much as possible right now to create a savings fund and emergency fund so I don't have to work as much once school starts.

Me! I put myself through my BFA in dance by dancing...it's a wierd major...obviously you don't "study" in the sense of book work, but the thing about it is a three credit class is often twelve hours of studio time per week. I danced M-F from 9 am til 3pm, had a break and went back for night rehersals. I danced Friday and Saturday nights and made enough to live comfortably. Don't know how I had that much energy, esp since I was driving down to Chicago to dance, but I did it for years and I am quite glad. I wouldnt have been able to get my degree otherwise.

I've been at school for a week... haven't even looked for a club yet. I'm kinda missing dancing but college has been sooooo much fun. I've already been to 2 big parties and a huge show. This is gonna be really hard trying to balance work, school...and trying to have time for fun. I really want to join the school's hip hop team...but i don't even know if it will be possible.

I'm gonna look for clubs this weekend tho, and audition next..
