    Default Stripping to Day Job=SCARY!!!!

I've been dancing for about 5 years now, and for the past 2 years, I have relied solely on dancing as my income. Now, I'm pregnant and have been looking around for a job and I'm feeling pretty uneasy about it. Going from working 15 hours a week, having my entire day free, working independently w/o a boss being up my ass, and making $6000/month to working 40 hours per week to make $2000 is daunting. I've been busting my ass to save money like crazy, but I can't help thinking that I won't have enough money to get me through, and I'm scared that I won't be able to effectively adjust to my new budget especially with the economy being the way it is. As the day that I can't dance any longer looms ahead, I just keep getting even more nervous. How have any of you that have made this transition coped? Help!

I wish I could help, but I am in the reverse situation. Went from a high-stress 60 hour/week job, to this! Do you plan to go back to dancing after the baby comes?

A big part of it is abstraction and the unknown.

Have you actually sat down and written down your rent, your utilities, your food bill? Or is the only thing you're aware of is that you are soon going to make a lot less money?

The first step is to educate yourself about your own needs, and then you can move on to figuring out how to provide for yourself realistically. Don't forget that stripping money is outside of 'normal' projections of what the average American needs.

As for myself, I stopped dancing in December and since then have been making less than half of that income in a salaried job. Honestly, I've become happier, less prone to look for expensive entertainment (i.e. going out to really fancy bars, trips, etc), and taken more pleasure out of frugality than when I used to be a dancer. I love cooking dinner at home now.

Back then I would wake up in the morning, think "Okay, I have 8 hours before work... I'm going to take myself out to lunch, go see a movie ,go shopping, etc"... now I can go a few days without spending any money, and then I really do enjoy it. Come home from work, exercise, cook, read a book, spend time with my boyfriend. (I'm going out to buy some new panties and get sushi at lunch today and I'm fucking excited!!! ) Also, I work 40 hours a week, but I spend at least 20 of those on SW...

Also, I've SAVED far more money now that I am in a salaried job then when I danced!!!

Good luck... it's a big part of a transition period for you in general, and congratulations on the baby.

I just quit dancing for the first time in 5 years too(quit only a couple months ago). And I thought it'd be the scariest thing ever. I thought I'd end up going back within a few days. All i could think about was the loss of income and how I would survive on $15/hour.

But when it comes down to it, it's not as tough as you would think. I've noticed that i'm so much more relaxed and happy now.

Take Anomar's advice, and you'll do fine!

    Good luck!

Lightbulb Re: Stripping to Day Job=SCARY!!!!

I have and I can totally relate which is why I'll probably always work within the world of adult in SOME capacity, whether it be as a performer or behind the scenes.

Back when I was a dancer (on and off for 4 years) I maintained my sanity by stripping consistantly for 3 to 5 months at a time and then taking a "regular" job (call center customer service work, computer tech work, data entry work, web design work, etc) - but honestly I was always SOOO psyched to quit those jobs and go back to dancing (even though I'd wind up getting dancer burn out in a few months again), because I just couldn't justify putting in 40 hour work weeks for what seemed like at the time SUCH LITTLE PAY - though as we all know the masses of mainstream america are fine with such pay.

about my 2nd year into dancing was when I started to become aware of the online sex biz. My suggestion to you is while you're getting into the groove of a regular job to think about working from home in the evenings as a cam girl or phone sex operator. Stick with it - trust me - you will VERY quickly build up a clientel base and maybe you'll make enough to where you don't have to work a "regular job" and you could just stay home and work online.

Check out sites like and mabe even my site - I do cam shows everyday and I live off of that income. I know that babies are expensive. I don't have any but I have a sister who does and I see what she's going through.

If you do the camgirl thing or phone sex operator thing you could stay at home with your future boy or girl. You could also make an account on clips4sale.com and sell some pre-recorded clips. In my opinion, exotic dancers have the easiest transition into being cam girls anyways. I wish you the best.

    What Anomar said!

You really can live on so much less when you aren't dancing. Items like personal care alone cost a ton, like salon visits, tanning, makeup, hair stuff. Then there are outfits and shoes and over priced gawdy rhinestone jewelry.

Of course, once you really start showing, you can do pregnant webcam work. That is a niche market that supposedly pays very well for cam shows. I have no first hand experience with this, though.

I did the "cam girl" thing from 2004-2006 (and off/on in 2007) on iFriends. I was bringing in $800-1600 weekly (they mail you a check WEEKLY). It was great money, considering I only worked on cam 3 days a week, 3-4 hours at a stretch. The only hard part about doing it from home, is getting yourself motivated. I found myself becoming really lazy about working near the end. I needed to be OUT of the house to keep my sanity

And yes, iFriends does have a Pregnant section for cam girls who are expecting. I never did it (I would just feel too weird), but there are many who do......

I will PM you. The sign-up process for iFriends is very detailed (and can be a bit confusing), and involves sending in lots of copies of documents. But, it's VERY worth it once you are approved.

No, life isn't worth living. It's to be taken, and beaten, and wrestled, and formed in your image. That's where the meaning lies: in what you can twist life into. Kamryn, does the cam work require a toy show most of the time?

Believe me, I'm terrified of quitting too. I get close sometimes and then freak out about money and head back to the club. When I was pregnant, I did phone sex. It's not nearly as much money as dancing but it helped us with our bills. Do you have anyone to help you? Maybe you could move back in with your family until after the baby is born if you're really having trouble making ends meet. But then like anomar says, it might just be as simple as re-budgeting.

Absolutely not. I never did any toy shows. Nothing aganist the girls that do it, but I simply would not.

I just did topless cam shows, mainly posing/chatting with my boobies out Sometimes I'd rub lotion on my body, or show the guys my feet (SUCH easy money). Guys also had fetishes for smoking (I'd pretend), pantyhose (yup, just wearing them), but the majority really just wanted to chat with a girl who was topless. $2.99/minute - you really can't go wrong. I've actually thought about getting back into it, on the nights I don't feel like driving down to the club. I did it for 2+ years and got a bit burnt out (it CAN get boring and repetitive after that long, and it's not nearly as interesting as working in a club). But less bullshit for sure.

This doesn't sound bad at all! Are you on the phone or IMing too?

Did you have any issues with images of you winding up where they shouldn't be, or someone else profiting from them?

You are in a chat room. There is a public chat (free), and a private chat (where the guy pays $2.99/min). You hang out in public chat, until a guy comes along and wants a private (kinda like selling LD's!). Most cams you buy come with a mic. They can hear you (so you can stop typing and just talk). You can also sell phone time. They never get your #. They call an 800# and it's forwarded to your phone. You can charge extra for that as well. Also, you can tape your "shows" and they can play 24/7. So, you're making money even while you're sleeping. I STILL get checks to this day, from members of my iFriends fan club. Woo.

So i scanned the the ifriends I m definetely interested. Did u ever get guys who were just trying to stay in public chat? How long did u chat till u cut them off or asked them to go private? Can u see them? Do u have to? Sorry, for all the q's, this just might be what i need to break away from dancing.

    ^^

Of course, you've always got the guys who wanna chat for free. However, in free chat, they can't see your full cam. They see a big box on the screen, over you. It's basically like the strip club. I will chat with them in free chat for just a bit - and then we'll go "private". If they don't want to go private, you can just ignore them and wait till another guy comes into your chat room. I just can't say enough good things about iFriends. Back in 2004, when I started, I was broke, and spent 2 weeks in a weekly hotel type place. A friend recommended it to me, and I made over $1500 the following week. Signed a new lease on a 2-bed apartment, and did the cam work 3 nights a week (3-4 hours at a pop). It paid my rent and bills + more. If you are motivated to make money and market yourself (designing your fan club, uploading pics, recording shows), you can BANK. I always imagined..."what if I did this full-time?". Major money.

Customers can also buy 30 minute - 1 hour shows. You can set the price on these, as high as you want. It's like "VIP".
