    Default Strange deck of cards

I needed a deck of cards tonight and could not find the one we have been using lately, so I went and dug into my mother's stuff. I found a deck of cards with no case, just two rubber bands. I counted the cards and there were 52, so Mrs. UtahMike and I sat down to play a game of cribbage.

Right away we noticed there was something different about these cards. They have letters on them under the suit symbol. For instance, the ten of Spades has a W, the Jack of Hearts has a U, and the two of Hearts has an E.

I can't ask my mother because she has been dead for eighteen years. So I turn to Stripperweb, where I have yet to see a question asked that someone could not answer.

For what game would those cards be used?

Do all of the cards have letters, or just the ones you mentioned?

It sounds like Bridge except bridge doesn't have a U? It's NSEW for North, South, East/West.

^Sometimes my 'n' looks like a 'u' if I'm writing sloppy and fast. Not that it's upside down, but that little line on the left of the letter gets separated from the rest when I'm in a hurry, so maybe it's really an 'n'!

Every card has a letter. Here are some more ( don't want to list 52 cards LOL)

    2H E
    QC O
    8C P
    2S N
    4D Y
    6S T

Here's the suit of diamonds, stating with the Ace as 1:

    QMIYAGELOJECT

    Here are the four twos:

    2C: I
    2H: E
    2D: M
    2S: N

That could be an anagram of "mine,"

    But the four aces:

    AC: E
    AH: O
    AD: Q
    AS: I

    Educational Playing Cards?

    United States Patent 4234189

"Abstract: There is disclosed herein a deck of educational playing cards consisting of fifty-two cards divided into four suits, each suit being representative of two different forms of speech and being so marked. Each card in each suit is representative of two different letters of the alphabet, and is so marked, the thirteen cards in each suit being representative of the twenty-six letters of the alphabet."

Is it the complete alphabet twice over 2 suits each?
