    Default ass and hips

What is the best way to tone your ass and hips without doing squats or lunges? I can't do them because of a hip problem and I'm unsure of a better way to tone that area. I don't have access to a stairclimber but I do walk on the treadmill on an incline...is there anything else I can do?

the pilates legs moves? I"m sure they're out there online somewhere.. or on your hands and knees like a dog, raising your legs to the side or back, at 90 degrees.....
I'm not sure what your hip problem limits you from doing, but with a body ball you can do some moves too.

^ The peeing on a fire hydrant move? LOL. I can do that, my hip..it's the deep bending motion that prevents me from squatting repeatedly or from lunging. I's very awkward and I can't do it smoothly and i gets painful after a bit.

You can ankle weights too. Don't run with them, but doing your shopping or talking a walk with them on really gets your legs working. I have 3-5lb ones. You can do all sorts of little raises with them too, or double 'em up.

And for an awesome musclebutt- Hit the stairs, or some step aerobics

What's the hip prob? I have very tight hip flexors and thighs in general and Pilates, yoga and the foam roller has slowly been helping me release years of knots and whatnot.

Is the prob something you could see a doctor/physical therapist about? I just ask because I've spent years in back/hip/leg pain not even wondering why and finally I've been doing better.

You could try lunges going up the stairs, it puts less stress on the hips. Maybe try it with ankle weights?

As for pilates I use to do it with a trainer on a reformer and I loved it! It's really easy on your joints, increases flexibility and cleared my mind.

If you want to just start out at home I recommend this book

Since then pilates DVD's have come out that may be helpful too.

Def have someone teach hnow to use a foam roller to guide you in usin gthe foam roller effectively. Foam roll in combination with something like pilates for a while and see how everything feels.

I've been getting lotss of my fitness students hooked on the roller. It's therapeutic so you can continue doing what you're doing or do more of what you'd like to do.
