Default Switching to a completely nocturnal schedule.

I am seriously considering doing this. I work from 10pm-4am....but usually don't fall asleep until 6:30 because I don't get home from the club until 4:30ish and then spend like 2 hours showering, putting away my stuff, eating breakfast and winding down.

I'm considering having a schedule like this:

    6pm- wake up
7pm- shower, start getting ready for work
    8:30-9ish- go to work
    4:30am- get off work
5am- go to the gym (I go to a 24 hour gym), go for a bike ride, walk, jog... something normal business people do really early in the morning so I dont look too freakish.
    6am- go home, shower AGAIN
6am-10am- do normal things I would do during the day like go to the store, run errands, do laundry, clean, etc.
    10am-6pm- sleep.

Is that weird??? It's just like a reverse schedule, just switch the am's to pm's and it sounds like a normal 9-5 job... haha

Would this seriously screw me up?? I figure I'd get sunlight during the 6am-10am time I'm up doing productive things. I'd rather do this than the schedule I'm on now which is sleeping from 6am-2pm, having the whole day wasted, and then having only 4 hours or so to myself before I have to go to work again. with the nocturnal schedule I'd have 6-7 hours of time to myself and it wouldn't be all about work.

    Anyone here nocturnal??

It's 6:20 and i'm still up.... not even tired.

I've read that having a nocturnal schedule is bad for you. Naturally your body wants to be awake in the daytime and asleep at night, even if you work nights for 20 years your body will never really get used to it. Heres a link for you about the health risks associated with night shift and some coping strategies.

In theory it sounds great. I'm often up until 4 or 6am in the morning whether I'm working consistently or not. However, I have not tried the reverse scheduling in over 2 years now.

The one thing that kind of bugs is having to go to any 24 hr store (CVS, Walmart, Walgreens) in the wee hours of the morning for toiletries/food/etc...and because of completely becoming nocturnal you may find yourself doing this equally on your days off... and feeling like it's the Night of the Living Dead and everyone is looking askance at everyone else! lol..Not just in the stores, but the long, eerily silent drive when you go out for food or any type of early morning driving where the only people out and about (or so it seems) are druggies and homeless types.

Getting all of your errands done between 6am and 10am will be a bigger hurdle than it seems as some stores may not open until 10am nor will banks open before 8am. Daily tasks may sometimes drag along. An errand that you think won't take very long every now and then will eat up a lot of time, throw off your new bedtime, and possibly cause you to miss work when you need to play catch-up.

If you have any non-dancer friends, it will be difficult for them to understand the fact that calls during normal hours (which have now became your sleep schedule 10am-6pm) are unwelcome and you will be so out of it when they are at their own energy peak of the day. If you have mostly dancer/night-owl friends it will pose less of a problem, of course!

I was predominantly nocturnal during my study abroad and grad school moreso than with dancing and can half-heartedly recommend it, with a few reservations. I think it's okay to try it out but would think that you'd want to adopt a completely nocturnal schedule in short duration, like a few weeks or 2-3 months at most and see how you are feeling and how productive you have been.

    Good luck!

That's not how I did it. I definitely slept late, but I think my schedule was more like:

    Wake up at 2 pm
Gym, errands, (late) lunch with a friend during the afternoon
If there's time I'd chill around the house playing on SW or watching TV
Start getting ready for work anywhere from 4pm-6pm depending on what time I was going in
Home from the club by 3:30 at the latest
And unfortunately my bad habits kept me up until maybe 7am sometimes .. When I wasn't on drugs, I could hope to sleep by 4.

But there were mornings after work that I would grab coffee and be first in line to get my oil changed or whatever or do laundry before the sun came up.

And days off I slept for 12 hours or more, I don't know how.

I do it and it's great except when someone " normal" cuts into your sleep. hings you can't control like renovating the apt building you're in or road work on your block ect.
I just shut off my phone and put a dnd sign on my door. I'm up by 2 or 3 p.m. most days. I shop on the way home from work or on a day off. I know where all the 24 hr laundrys are. I like it b/c I don't have to deal with the 9-5 hord. But I do miss seeing alot of daylight.
One day I will get a " normal" job again.
