Perhaps at the very least you should find out which judges are on the ticket and vote for the ones who are more liberal. And maybe even consider voting Democrat for your local municipality.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm not at all "lecturing", but you stated which 2 topics were important for you personally. Voting locally is very important for your causes, IMO. (Well for most causes, but I'm talking to you poersonally and others like you)![]()

I would LOVE to see a Libertarian president. I voted Lib last time around, although I knew (obviously) that Bednarek (sp?) would never actually be elected. I couldn't bring myself to vote R or D and I didn't want to not vote.....so I voted Lib. I'm not entirely sure what I'll do this time around. I live in IL....our votes will go toward Obama anyways (that doesn't mean I intend to vote for him, by any means, I'm just sayin)
Any chance I can, I vote locally** for Libertarian candidates. I hope to one day see them as more nationally recognized....and who knows, maybe presendent. Probably not in my life time though....
The reasons I lean toward Libertarian are:
*Pro Gun
*Repealing the Patriot Act
*Legalize Drugs
*End Welfare Dependance
*Less taxes
*Unrestricted Freedom of Speech
*Pro Choice
**Can you tell that I believe very much in learning about local candidates? They go un-noticed and people vote blindly for them, or don't vote at all. I am a busy busy person (not that you couldtell with the time I spend here) but I take the extra time to learn at least something about everyone on the IL tickets. Everyone.
Oh and one of the sites I like to use to check voting records and such, is: http://www.votesmart.org/

Audrey, Folks that don't vote are in the fore front of leading this country "down the drain". When a majority of the people stay home you are leaving all decisions to the extremists of both parties.

I believe this is why Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States. Sorry Republicans....but you have evolved into a party that has sent young people into a war while you joke, you pollute the environment, you discriminate against gays/lesbians when civil rights should never be up for popular vote, you bow down to the Religious Right and their hatred......but you NEVER paid attention to the people who were watching you do it.
It's the young vote that is going to change the world in this election.![]()

Well, both campaigns spend an awful lot of time and money conducting polls to determine where they stand.
Don't you think polls contributed to Obama's pick of Biden?
Don't you think polls contributed to McCain's pick of Palin?
Both candidates had to conduct polls to identify where they were perceived as weak and then do what they could to shore up those weaknesses.
Right now, the polls indicate Obama/Biden is stumbling while McCain/Palin is surging. I challenge you to provide evidence to the contrary. Of course this trend can and probably will switch back and forth over the next several weeks.
Granted, though, the only poll that really matters is November 4th.

I don't really follow polls that much...I guess people who are experts in the subject can see trends.
I caught something on the news how innacurate they think telephone polls are now because the younger generation is generation "cell phone" and will most likely never be called vs. land line.
Then there are all those people who will say one thing....then vote another...lol

No surprise, I'm pretty much a lefty.
I took this 5 minute test (my ATF sent me the link) and I fall in right next to the Dalai Lama on the scale.
The Political Compass
Yeah, to go with our Universal Healthcare (I'm Canadian), I'd like to see Univeral Drug, Dental, Vision, Daycare...and fully paid University education for any citizen. A committment to pay off the national debt in 10 years, and use the interest payments saved to fund it all. And if we're still short the money, take it from any guns/military/war bullshit programs.
More stuff that makes us proud, and less stuff that makes us uneasy.
Government regulation to basically change our environmental direction. Like, make it building code that all new houses must have solar powered water heaters...all new highrises must have a wind powered generator for lights. That kind of thing. Stick a windmill on every ugly hydro transmission tower...double the cost of water and hydro so we can ensure we have clean water and clean (non-polluting) hydro. Whatever, you get my drift.
I'm probably way left of our leftiest party. I'm the Lefty Llama Party.
Polls are perfectly fine.
If you like the results.

I believe Sarah Palin did one good thing, in a round-about way....She put aerial hunting on the front page and tons of attention will go to stop it.
Gorgeous widlife in Alaska....FU Sarah Palin.

Since you posted about polls.....I guess Obama is getting it back.....I still don't trust polls though.
-----------------------------------------
Obama wiped out McCain's 5-point edge in a Reuters/Zogby poll taken in August before the nominating conventions, a sign the Arizona senator could be drifting back to earth from what other opinion polls showed was a post-convention surge.
"We're back to where we always thought we would be -- in a very competitive race," pollster John Zogby said.
The poll, taken Thursday through Saturday, follows a hectic month in the race to the November 4 election as both parties held their nominating conventions and both candidates selected their vice presidential running mates.
McCain's choice of Sarah Palin, an anti-abortion and pro-gun first-term governor from Alaska, as his No. 2 set off a political firestorm that helped stoke conservative enthusiasm for the Republican ticket.
But Zogby said Palin also helped solidify Democratic support for Obama. "For the last few weeks it's been all about Palin and she has been a divisive force," he said. "She has shored up the base for both candidates."
Obama, who struggled to solidify Democrats in August when just 74 percent backed him, now has the support of 89 percent of Democrats. McCain's support among Republicans grew from 81 percent last month to 89 percent.
Nearly one-third of likely voters said the choice of Palin made them more likely to support McCain and nearly one-quarter said it made them less likely. About 43 percent said it would have no effect.
Obama's selection of Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as his No. 2 had less impact. About 23 percent said they were more likely to vote for Obama with Biden on the ticket and 16 percent said they were less likely.

Nor should you. The only poll that matters are ones taken on November 4.
The polls that are most important are the state by state polls anyhow, because we use the electoral college system. It's entirely possible that the winner won't carry the popular vote in this election.
