It's just the end of an age according to the Mayan calendar. Not the end of existence. So I can't say I'm worried.
Because there ain't no tits on the radio

^^ me either. ugh, how many dumb "events" are people going to get worked up about in their lifetimes? Y2K, 2012...what next?
Not saying the OP is dumb, just that the whole hype is.

I agree with HardK and Sveta. But I can't wait for the day. I doubt anything will happen. OH yeah, I'm a former Jehovah's Witness so I'm kind of over the whole "end of the world"/Armaggedon idea. It might happen - I'm not worried about it (although I care for the planet to the best of my knowledge/ability).
With everything that has been happening over the last decade or so I can't say it would surprise me if it was the end of an era or something of that sort, but the end of existence....i doubt it and would hate if that was true....too many things to do after that date lol I can't die.
I kind of believe in it-- but did they make this prediction
based on the solar system or on something else? the human
species has fucked up so much of the natural earth order
in the past century or two that I don't have a problem believing
that the world could end or vastly change in less than four years.
it's harder to believe we haven't killed ourselves definitively before
now.
but if it just has to do with celestial revolutions, I don't think
the Mayans could predict humans fucking up based on the stars.
No, i don't think so. I have a friend who believes it though, and is doing lots of bad things and says she will continue to do so until 2010, after 2010 she said she is going to reform herself. She's a little weird.
It's not the end of the physical world, but IMO it will be the end of our world as we know it. I think humans are slowly becoming more conscious and it's evident all around us if you just open your eyes. There are more people into yoga and alternative medicine than ever before. People are looking back to their roots to cure themselves and not relying on "modern" medicine and doctors as much, more of us are vegetarians and vegans than ever before. People are catching on to the "green" trend and starting to actually care about the earth. People are realizing new concepts that would seem insane 20 years ago- like the idea that our thoughts create our reality, positive manifestation, the law of attraction, etc. People are biking more instead of driving cars--- people are being conscious. Eastern religion has more influence in western culture than ever before- go the the home decor section of target or walmart and you will see tons of buddha statues and wall art... it's widely known and widely available knowledge to everyone. There are some cities that are more awake than others, but it will be only a matter of time before the whole world is awake and realizes that we are truly all one. Suffering and pain are caused by separatism, when we see eachother as separate entities- when we meet new people and immediately look for the differences between us, that is when conflict and wars are caused. When we start looking for the similarities, we'll ascend to a higher and more enlightened state of being.
It's happening already, it's not going to be an apocolyptic event. It's about changing our hearts, changing our thoughts, and making our reality more beautiful and positive than we could ever imagine.
The war is going to end. There will be no "one world order" or "mark of the beast" like the conspiracy theories make it out to be. From the perspective of an unenlightened person it will look like there is chaos going on - there will be more hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, wars, natural disasters, but these are just growing pains. Things are going to get more hectic leading up to the shift, but it will all be okay in the end if you believe it will.
It's just the end of pisces and the beginning of aquarius. Read about the indigo children, nostradamus, edgar cayce, atlantis, etc if you're interested in this kind of stuff.
By 2011 I'm definitely going to be living in New Zealand in some sort of self-sustaining community. It will be safe there.... so will the mountains in the US in certain areas and the himalayas, the andes mountains... but any urban areas would not really be a good place to be living IMO... too much risk of biological weapons and natural disasters.

I just reckon whe Mayans thought that was an interesting date to stop the calender at because they had no need to have calenders for hundreds, thousands of years into the future and couldnt be arsed writing down anymore numbers at that point. They probably thought they could get back to it later if need be :-)

Does anyone remember that group of people years ago who thought the end of the world was coming to they packed their suitcases (I dont know why they thought they could take belongings with them) and they stood waiting for it?
There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.
Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.
but they didn't go back.... they mysteriously disappeared. Why is it that the Mayan, Egyptian and ancient Indian cultures are all so similar? Why is it that they all occurred around the same time and have so many similarities? Where did they come from?

I wish this were true but I don't think people are becoming anymore consious now than they were in the past. If anything,m they were more conscious when they were more connected to the earth and not so much the internet.
I also thing there is a pseudo-consciousness going on. They might look it on the outside, only because it's the "in" thing. It's very marketable.
I also think that you guys are forgetting or not factoring in that Y2K and other similar "end of world" HYPE was because of an actual physical predicted threat of the end of the world. 2012 is not a physical threat, it's a spiritual awakening. There won't be any marked black/white END of anything, it's simply a gradual awakening and 2012 marks the time at which one "age" ends and the new one begins.

I dunno... vegetarianism, not driving cars, and meditation have been around for much longer than not.
Doesn't the calendar simply end at 2012? or is there really a prediction? I would be inclined to think absolutely nothing will happen. Humans suck and we are just a species of primate who have ended up being able to adapt efficiently enough to exploit our habitat.

I think more than anything it will be a spiritual awakening. I think there will be a lot more focus on treating oneself and others with love and respect.
I've also heard that "enlightened", highly -evolved people are going to live on a higher plane of existence, while those living in lower vibrations remain in this physical realm.
But what do I know...

I didn't read the whole thread, but:
It is not the end of existence according to the Mayan calender. In fact, The Mayans believed the entire world ended every 532 years. Those who were 'righteous' or whatnot, survived and were recreated in the new world and their memories were recreated only to involve those in the new world as well. Those who weren't 'righteous' were destroyed.
I'm not worried about it, but it'll be interesting to see what everyone does on that day and in preparation for it.
Also, it is just the end of the calender. Same as ours ends at the end of December every year. Theirs just lasts 532 years instead of 1.
I believe you Dottie and you have my support
^all I know is that before that day comes I will definitely not be living in the US. I'll probably be living in the mountains in a yurt in a commune in NZ....at least that's what I'm planning.

I don't know Keira, this may be your personal experience, but I know my parents were living on a commune doing all the things you talk about about 35 years ago, and so were all of their friends.People are realizing new concepts that would seem insane 20 years ago- like the idea that our thoughts create our reality, positive manifestation, the law of attraction, etc. People are biking more instead of driving cars--- people are being conscious. I don't know anything about 12/21/12. I'm sure I'll start hearing more and more about it though.
I'm confused, but the Chewbacca Truffle Shuffle cleared it up. - Emily

I can see the Earth giving humans a wake up call that can't be ignored. NO idea what it would be. But there have been load of natural disasters over the past few years. Nature's big wake up call would be spiritually enlightening.
The way things are now...is different. Back in the day..everything stayed exactly the same for hundreds or thousands of years. Hell...even in our lifetime...it used to take decades to do things...now technology moves so fat that your computer is outdated by the time you get it home and hook it up.
So we move into change faster and accept it faster now.
Personally I'm waiting for 2112....THAT will be the most BITCHIN concert of the millenium!!! LOLOL We need to start freezing Geddy,Alex and Neal NOW!!
