    Where do I start?

    Hi,

This is my first post and I wanted to say hello. I'm from NY, but now I live in CT. I'm 25, and in good shape. I haven't danced before. I mainly want to become a dancer because I don't make enough money at my current job. Dancing seems like hard work, but also alot of fun.

I've learned alot from looking around on this site. I'm not sure where to start. I'm a bit nervous because this is new to me, but I think I can do it. Do I start checking out clubs, or is it better to get some outfits together first? How many outfits should I start with? Money's really tight for me right now, so I can't afford a big shopping spree (that's why I need to dance ).

I've seen that alot of members use stage names. I think it would be a good idea for me to have one, but I'm having a tough time trying to pick one. Any ideas?

I also have a small scar (from a surgery) on my back that I'm self-conscious about . Can anyone recommend any makeup or any way to cover it up/and or help it fade quickly?

I'll keep checking around the site for more inspiration and ideas.

I look forward to meeting my fellow members

    -- K

For me, I bought outfits/shoes first then practiced in them around the house. I'm just that type of person. I always like to properly prepare myself.

Do a search on SW. There are some threads will TONS of stage name suggestions. Pick one based on the persona (stripper persona) you want to portray.

As far as your scar, the club is so dark, I seriously doubt anyone will notice it. In the event that you still want the body makeup, buy some dermablend. A little goes a long way, and it won't rub off on clothes.

Please be advised that the economy is in a shithole right now. As much as you hate your reg job, don't up and quit it just yet. Lots of new girls are jumping into this business just like you becasue they feel they need to make "more, larger sums of money" in a short amount of time. That just isn't the case for many. Being a dancer is all about SALES!

    Good luck,
    ck

You might be self concious about the scar, but yeah, they probably won't see it, and if they do, make up some kick ass story about how you got it. Make it a converstation piece. I have a gash on my knee that I have a "story" with. Really, I just fell off my bed when I was younger on to my nebulizer (crappy childhood asthma).

You could go to audition and work in any sexy-ish bikini to start, and once you see more of what is allowed or acceptable at your club (and once you make some $$$) you can buy skimpier thongs, little skirts and tops, fun costumes, unique and glamorous little numbers.

And maybe you could use the name Kitty, or Kitten. A DJ at my club used to sometimes announce me like: "And now here's Kennedy, our resident sex kitten!!" and it always made me feel fantastic.

And the scar- well, I say pretend it doesn't exist for the most part. No one's going to be focusing on whats NOT hot about you (except for maybe the other girls?). Customers will mainly be thinking to themselves "oooh look at this ones hair! And oh man there goes some beautiful breasts...Wow what a great outfit she had on! Oh and here's a another one, I didn't think I'd be into her type but man does she have an stunning smile"

I think you should check out some clubs first. You don't have to have a killer wardrobe to start. I had a black dress and black heels to start with. I've slowly added a few more outfits (been dancing 2 months).

Figure out two clubs that you could see yourself dancing at. Call ahead and ask when they take applications/do auditions. Go in looking your best, get a tour of the place, and a feel for the management.

A lot of places will hire you right then and there (no audition required). If they ask you when you want to start, I would suggest starting on dayshift. I was really nervous about being on stage, and dealing with customers. For instance, I went in for the very first time, on a Saturday night. Big mistake! I ended up leaving, afraid to ever go back. I did return (a Monday lunch shift), and by the end of that shift, I was 100% relaxed on stage.

I would recommend lots and lots of reading. Read HH and take notes (seriously!). Write down tips/tricks, and carry the notes with you to work.

As far as the scar, I doubt anyone would see it. However, if it's going to make you self-conscious, by all means - cover it up. Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs is AMAZING body makeup.

Stage names....don't pick anything too weird. The more "normal" it sounds, the less you'll get asked, "so what's your REAL name?". LOL.

Good luck! You'll love it here on SW. So many wonderful ladies, great advice, and all sorts of info for beginner's!

Thanks for the great advice, everyone. Don't worry, I wouldn't quit my day job, but I definitely need some extra cash to help with bills.

Also, if you really don't want customers looking at your scar, you can just wear a little vest that you don't take off on stage but can open up so that your breasts are visible but your back is not, or wear a sexy robe such as this:

Cute! I am having major back surgery in a few months and am going to have to deal with a pretty gnarly scar. Thanks for the idea!

    Hi cici!

Just go into the board you want to post your topic in. Then you should see an icon at the top of the screen that says "post new thread".

It depends, there are times when dancing can be hard, but it helps to know how to overcome those challenges. I like the actual dancing part because I like music and rhythm. There's more to it than that though. You also have to have a good attitude and confidence and know how to deal with different people. I learn so much just from reading all of the info on this site. I always look here if I have a question about anything related to dancing. These ladies know alot!! And if for some reason you can't find the answer, just put up a post and you'll get so many good answers/responses. Have you gone to any auditions yet?
