Default Does anyone know what this star could mean?

I tried Googling, but couldn't find anything.

Anyway, I bought this little pitcher type thing at an thrift store in high school and recently found it again. I have NO idea what it could be used for, but I have an idea that its ceremonial or something, because it would probably only hold around 4 oz of liquid. It has a really interesting star on the front which is what I'm mainly curious about.

    Here's the pitcher thing itself:

I couldn't get a very good picture of it, but here's the star. It is a five pointed star divided into six sections, one for each "leg" of the star and one for the center. Each section has a little picture in it. I can't make out what most of them are, but one is a goblet, one looks like a rose sort of, and I can't tell the rest. Here it is:

I know this is a weird question to ask on here but its seriously boggling my mind and I'm usually so good at finding info online!

Hmm, if that were my lamp I would rub it and see if a geenie comes out, but that's just me

Seriously though no clue what it's for but it looks like I dream of Jeanie to me!

That little star is a pentagram. The size and shape of the pitcher looks like something that a pagan person might use for pouring libations (liquid offerings like wine or water) on an altar as a part of worship.

The five-pointed star is found on most Masonic memorabilia and represents the blasphemous resurrection rite of the five points of fellowship, each point mystically symbolizing a part of the resurrection act. First - Foot to foot. Second - Knee to knee. Third - Hand in hand. Fourth - Breast to breast. Fifth and last - Left hand behind back.

It's possibly Masonic. Could be Order of the Eastern Star. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Eastern_Star .

It could be any number of things, the pentagram is a frequently occurring symbol in many different beliefs/societies. A clearer pic would be helpful.

It's upside down for witches/pagans. The fifth point is spirit, and belongs on top.

Budai and Mister Chris...that's what I believe it is.

My grandfather..and great grand father and uncles are members..Ive never seen THIS pitcher laying around but if it were in a lodge that's probably why. However many gifts did have this. I saw a lot of it at my grandmothers house when we cleaned it out a few months ago and things were being given away.

Also there are different degrees (sects is an easier word I hate to use that word but it's easier understood for those that are unfamilier. Free Masons).. so depending largely on what is actually in the center of that star it would show what group or "level" that person belonged in.

Otherwise, I'll just leave it at that. Women and outsiders aren't to be told the goings on of Masons

    Oh thanks you guys!
Yek: I remember having an interest in pentagrams in high school around the time I picked this up. Now I can't remember if I noticed it on there or not.

SophiaAshley: You are right, I just poked around online and found a bunch of sources that say that the pentagram is commonly used by freemasons.

Budai: Yes! Those are the little pictures.

I wonder what it was used for, or if maybe it was just decoration.

I know most pagans put it with the single point on top, but a brief Google search showed other pagans and cultures who put it upside down. Apparently that little star has been getting around a lot of different cultures over the past few thousand years.

Could be a Mason thing though, that's plausible too. Sounds like the little pictures confirm that. Honestly I'm not even sure what the Masons are, much less what they'd use a ceremonial pitcher for.

Do you mean that the star on this pitcher is upside down, or vice versa?

I should take it to work, I have a regular who is a freemason. He doesn't much like to talk about it though. On a side note, he almost always comes to the club straight from his meetings though, maybe after all that male bonding he needs some tatas in his life.

The world may never know what it was used for and if anyone here actually did know they wouldn't speak of it.

I think it's cool ..hold onto it.

I don't want to sound all weird but don't ask him. Seriously, he could be booted if he told you anything. The limited knowledge that people are allowed to know can be found on the net. Otherwise, but you could show it to him and confirm either way.

Honestly I just wouldn't go asking for details.

Yeah, I don't ever bring it up with him unless he brings it up first. I'd just show him saying I thought it might be related, and then let him say what he wanted to say.

As for the secrecy: I figured that out pretty quick after I gently teased him about letting me know all his secrets and was met with a look of stony silence.

    The more you know. *rainbow*

Are you sure it's a flower in the center?

Is it a "forget me not" flower? ......

If so I might have "some" answers for you

Its not a flower in the center, it looks just like the ones you and Budai posted. The one I thought was a flower is must be something else because it doesn't look like one in the clearer pictures you guys posted.

On the topic of flowers though, last Thursday he came straight from his meeting with a single white rose, cut short, for each girl. He said that had gotten them from the meeting.

Ah okay. I was wondering why on earth a forget me not was on there...and if it were that would be amazing and I'm sure worth something at least with it's emotional ties.
