    Default update on my friend

My troubled friend had her first shift 2.5 weeks ago. She made $230 in a 7.5 hour shift. Not great, but not bad either for her first time. She works for a major bank and blabbed about her stripping. HR found out. She also has bipolar and terrible attendance. They have a meeting Thursday and I'm sure she is going to get fired. She says she will just strip now. There are so many reasons I have a problem with this. Just to start, she only did it once 2.5 weeks ago and has been unable to go back for various reasons. She has no proven track record of being able to handle it and make money. *sigh*

That sucks Any idea why she blabbed about it right away, or did it just slip out to the wrong person?

^^^She just has a lot of problems and probably blabbed because of her self-esteem issues.

She has a lot of clients at the bank who try to flirt with her and she actually thought it would be a good idea to groom them to be regulars at her club

She just has all these crazy ideas about how to make money...... and I know they are bad!!

Yikes. I hope she has a back up plan in case stripping doesn't pan out either?

My sister did somthing similar, she stripped with me a bit and told all the guys she worked with and ended up getting canned from a really good job (she wasn't supposed to have another job I guess). She never went back (the novelty wore off) and was unemployed for 6 months. She had/has some self-esteem issues as well.

I hope things work out for your friend.

Yeah......wow. That is not very smart. I think you called that one out before it even happened, didn't you? (Dancing being a bad idea).

So 3 weeks later she works her 2nd shift and doesn't do so well. She left wiht $275 after an 8 hour shift........

And now I find out she got her lip pierced and died her hair orange! Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I think it's kinda sketch when you are a beginning stripper.

Sounds like she's having a midlife crisis to me (even if she's young). Lame! Let's just hope she can get another bank/etc job when she comes to the realization that she hasn't picked the best path.

Woah...I know this is crazy off-topic, but she needs therapy really badly. Are you close enough that you could suggest it, possibly help her find a provider, etc.?

HR can't fire her for being a stripper (although they can make other excuses). She could fight that and threaten to involve a lawyer... but it sounds like she doesn't want to do that. It sounds like she WANTS to strip instead. You can see that stripping is amazing and wonderful at first (how much was she making at the bank in 8 hours?), burn out is a bitch. We can also see that. She can't see that. You are probably not going to make her see that. But, you CAN try to reason with her. Point out that she can't do it forever and she'll need her resume later in life. With that in mind, she should deal with HR to either keep her job or at least leave with a good letter of recomendation or something if she leaves quietly. Then, if she wants to take some time to go all crazy, fine.

What's her job at the bank? There's a big difference between being a bank teller and being higher up on the food chain. If she's a teller, I don't think it's a big deal at all for her to screw up the bank job. They only make about $10 an hour.

I think it's a big deal because she can afford her rent and everything on $800 a month. She doesn't have to strip. Now she has to.

Also, it provides her with a resume.

It also provides her with structure in her life. She has to wake up everyday and go to the bank on time.

What's the difference between her and any of us? I'm sure we could all go get a job as a bank teller, does that mean we should? If anyone should understand her wanting to be a dancer, it should be other dancers. Just because you can get by on $800 a month (??) doesn't mean you want to make that little. Hell, if she's pulled $300 on each of her first nights dancing, I think that's a pretty good indicator that she'll be able to make at least $800 a month at it.

And it's not like she couldn't go get another bank teller job if the dancing doesn't work out. Really, it isn't a prestigious job at all. IMO, it's only a tiny bit more desirable than working fast food.

I could see people in other straight jobs being freaked out by her actions, but I really don't understand why you have a problem with it.

Sorry, this is an update thread. Did you see the first thread? She has flunked out of school twice, she is a recovering alcoholic, bipolar, immature, and just generally very messed up

I have no problem with most people stripping as their only job, but for her I know it will mess her up.

Lol, she sounds like about half the dancers I've known so it sounds like she'll fit right in.

^^^She had the possibility of moving up the ranks at her bank. I'd rather see her to do or go back to school. I'm praying she goes back to school and passes this time.

she is your FRIEND. really all you can and should do is be supportive of HER decisions. because in the end it is HER life. its nice to be concerned but, kind of over the top to be picking apart her choices via the web imho. just wish her the best and carry on with YOUR life. its the one you are in control of.

^^^I've been thinking more about this lately and I think you are right. I'm trying to take on responsibility to make sure she's okay and really it's not my responsibility. I mean, I am her friend and I'll support her and be there for her but I need to stop worrying so much!!

Yep. And it's not like her becoming a dancer is the worst thing in the world. I quit my job in publishing to come back to dancing. That probably seemed crazy to some of my friends. But corporate America isn't for everybody. Working that 9 to 5 was about as soul-killing as anything I can think of. My worst day in the club is better than my best day in that cubicle. Just because she might get a promotion sometime doesn't mean she wants to work 40 hours a week for $10 an hour until then.

^^^I see what you mean and I'm not trying to bash dancing. I just know it's not best for my friend. She has no plans for her future and you can't dance forever. Try entering the 9-5 at age 40 when you've been out of corporate America for 20 years and have no resume

Do u think she has potential to earn more stripping than $275 for 8 hours? Like when she is more experienced. If she is brand new she still has to work out how to sell dances.
