Here is just ONE....There are over 1,300 other civil rights and protections John McCain wants to deny my family and people I care about. How long do you have????
John McCain...."no you can't"
Barack Obama will protect my family from right wing bigots who can't leave their personal religious choices out of laws.
What amazing comments coming from an adulterer...He should JUDGE HIMSELF...POS

I see its a gay adoption video , but I can't play it aloud where I'm at.
I'm going to jump to the conclusion you have a gay relative who can't adopt and that McCain opposes such adoptions. I didn't know that. Its not an issue I have given much thought to.
At the risk of being excoriated by you, I'll offer my views. All other things being equal, I think heterosexual adoptive parents are better, but that gay adoptions shouldn't be banned.
But other than the fact he disagrees with you, how exactly is he denying someone 1300 Civil Rights? There are something like 27 amendments to the Constitution dealing with CivilRrights. where do you get 1300 and how does McCain's position on this matter deny any rights to the people you know?

How many couples that are gay do you know with adoptive kids? The ones I know are actually more responsible parents and will probably raise much better children because you know they really want kids to go through all that hell.

That does not even count benefits on a state level...
1,049 Federal Benefits for Married Couples
Government Printing Office, 1997
A resource that is often cited in discussions about same-sex marriage is the list of more than 1,000 rights, benefits and responsibilities that are available to married couples but unavailable to same-sex couples who are denied the right to marry. The source of this information is a Government Accounting Office (GAO) report that was issued Jan. 31, 1997. The report (B-275860) can be downloaded from the GAO website in PDF format. Civil rights should never be up for popular vote....PERIOD
None of them do apparently. Because they know they can’t win on issues. They don’t have jack shit to offer in the way of real solutions. That is why a top campaign person openly admits they want this election to be about personality and not issues. As if it were some kind of high school prom or something.

I know no gay couples with kids but I only know one gay couple and their kids are older and from their straight days.
I don't think being being gay should be an adoption deal-killer, but I think straight parents would be preferable, all other things being equal.
I still don't see McCain's role in all this.

Bingo. Distraction. It's the best tool out there for this country, because otherwise they are required to actually do some research as to who's the best candidate.
It's like "We need to talk about the issues..."
The US: "Really? Ok what do you purpose?"
"Well...LOOK! You can put a pig in a dress, but it's still a pig! Isn't that a great metaphor? Laugh USA, Laugh!"
The USA: "Teehee! That really WAS funny! Wow, they must really be the right choice to run the country; they can make us laugh!"
......

You "think" straight is better than gay....tell it to those kids who just want PARENTS.....don't tell me.
Human Rights Campaign Statement on Log Cabin Republican Endorsement of McCain/Palin
9/2/2008
WASHINGTON - The following is a statement from Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese on the Log Cabin Republican endorsement of John McCain and Sarah Palin:
"John McCain claims to be a maverick who breaks with his party, but on matters of LGBT equality, he's shown that he's anything but. He actively campaigned for a constitutional amendment that would have banned marriage and domestic partnerships for same-sex couples in his home state of Arizona. He went so far as to appear in television commercials for that campaign, is now supporting an amendment to strip marriage equality from California couples and has said that he would vote for a federal marriage amendment if laws already banning marriage equality were to be struck down by federal courts. Sarah Palin has also supported bans on marriage and even domestic partner benefits in Alaska. The Republican Party, McCain and Palin's party, has declared in its platform that they want to pass the federal marriage amendment. Their party's platform also calls gay and lesbian Americans unfit for military service, supports policies that would allow faith-based organizations to deny us jobs and services using federal dollars, and attacks judges who acknowledge our equality under the law. The Human Rights Campaign endorses mavericks on both sides of the aisle- neither John McCain nor Sarah Palin is among them," said HRC President Joe Solmonese.
The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

I think Michelle Obama ROCKS....so refreshing after always getting Republican Hate thrown at you.
God Bless America for people who actually comprehend the Constitution and remember why people came to America in the first place...so much better than a pitbull with lipstick.

Partisan much? I can do that too:
Maybe McCain pounced on the perceived insult because he is ashamed to talk about an illegal war in Iraq, the fact that Osama Bin Laden is still roaming around, Corporate bailouts, record foreclosures on private homes, people choosing between medicine and heating fuel all while the rich get richer and the middle class completely disappears?

No, I said, ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL, straight adoptive parents are preferable to gay adoptive parents. If there is a child in need of a home, and an otherwise qualified gay couple ready and willing to adopt, go fo it.
You're not going to like this, but I have a problem with gays in the military. I think they could be damaging to the morale. No soldier would want to share a barracks with guys who might find him sexually attractive. It would lead to problems. And separate barracks would never fly.
Faith-based organizations should not get Federal dollars if they discriminate but absent the fedearl dollars they have a right to hire and help those they choose to hire and help.

^Now, I support McCain, but I have issues with your statement that gays in the military would damage morale.
Would it cause some disruption? Sure. But you know what, so did having blacks in the military alongside white soldiers. There was disruption. But then, they got over it.

I think it's a little different and I'm not saying its right but its a realistic concern.
With all due consideration to the fact that this a SC-based site, would you be comfortable sharing your barracks with a bunch of guys, changing and showering in front of them if you thought they were eyeballing you?
I'm just saying an open and noticeable gay presence would make a lot of soldiers uneasy, IMO.

Well, as a part of a stripper sight, I don't give a damn if men eyeball me *wink*
But I think that part of the argument makes no sense. Women serve in the military now...right alongside men.
I get it would make a lot of people uneasy. That was my point about when blacks first were allowed to serve alongside whites. People were made uneasy...then they just...got over it.
They're going to have to. The world is changing.

This gets ridiculous. Straight guys shower with gays in high school, college, at health clubs etc. etc. It's ONLY in the military where everybody volunteered TO DO A JOB and where the CMJ applies that these poor, innocent, little boys are going to get "ogled" ?????
Could I please read one argument; just ONE, against gays in the military that wasn't used against blacks by segregationists or that is grounded in common sense and REAL WORLD experience ?
As for Obama's remark; the intention by Obama was clearly innocuous BUT the way HIS audience reacted; it was clear that many felt it WAS directed against Palin.
I thought it was an unwise choice of words too easily associated with Palin and that the McCain campaign and their cheerleaders like Rush and Sean would make much more out of it than it deserves.
Far worse was Biden asking a guy in a wheelchair to "stand up" and chastising Palin for failing to support fetal stem cell research ( which McCain SUPPORTS ) when she has a son with Down's syndrome.
