I'm not certain that this is what you want but when I think ethereal music I think of:
    Sigur Ros,
    Efterklang
    Mum
    Mew
    Tricky
    Massive Attack
    Portishead
    Amiina
    Gus Gus
    Unkle
    Lamb

Mazzy Star, Slowdive, Chapterhouse, *some* Jesus and Mary Chain songs....

My Bloody Valentine's 'loveless' album is brilliant, but badly produced, so it sounds too low when played in a club. Amazing songs though!

Check out the Projekt Records label, there's loads of good etherial and darkwave stuff on that label. Mira is especially good.

    I love everything listed above...

but I especially love Boards of Canada!
I dance to Dayvan Cowboy, 1969, It's A Beautiful Place out in the Country. A bit out of place in my rap saturated club, but when I come in early or everyone is drunk & it is late, it works.

    My boyfriend loves them.

Kinda simmilar but all instrumental~The Red Sparrows

Or else Gavin Bryer's "Biped" (it's a modern ballet) is so freakin ethereal/ambient that it will seriously bore the pants straight off of you...and that's coming from someone who likes ethereal and ambient music!
