Default Just to lighten the mood...Crazy Politian Quotes

Member boards can get kinda heated what with all the political debates and disagreements. I thought we could have a thread to post funny, crazy, inane or just plain clueless quotes from politicians. I'll start.

This is Senator Ted Stevens or Arkasas talking about "that Internet":
Ten movies streaming across that, that Internet, and what happens to your own personal Internet? I just the other day got... an Internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday, I got it yesterday. Why? Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the Internet commercially. [...] They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the Internet. And again, the Internet is not something you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material.
    And Obama sees dead people:
On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong.
PS: No, I can't spell "Politician"

    Those are awesome.

I think my favorite was still George W. Bush with this one...

Great topic and a well needed dose of humor.

My favorite one is this: "childrens do learn " George W. Bush, Sept. 26, 2007

Another good one: "I heard somebody say, 'Where's (Nelson) Mandela?' Well, Mandela's dead. Because Saddam killed all the Mandelas." George W. Bush, Sept. 20, 2007

actually it was in reference to Palin but notice how I didn't add that part? The reason was because this is supposed to be a fun, lighthearted thread not a partisan one. Mind keeping it that way, please? Thanks.

well, different statements that seem funny to some people may seem insulting to other people, and vice versa. Such is the nature of free speech.

for example I find this one hilarious

And Rep. Charley Rangel - D - New York (who chairs the committee that WRITES tax law) had too many zingers to list separately ...

(snip)"At a news conference, Rangel, chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, said he had not been aware of the income and unpaid taxes, in part because he had trouble getting detailed financial statements from the resort's managers in the Dominican Republic.

"Every time I thought I was getting somewhere, they'd start speaking Spanish," Rangel said.

The explanation was greeted with skepticism by some people in his district, where Spanish is the primary language in nearly half the households. Rangel's congressional Web site can be instantly translated to Spanish with two clicks of a computer mouse.

He brushed aside calls that he step down as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and accused Republicans who have demanded he do so of trying to exploit his financial missteps.

"I really don't believe making mistakes means you have to give up your career," he said.

Rangel, a lawyer who has been a member of the powerful tax-writing committee for three decades, has been on the defensive in recent months because of disclosures about the villa, his rent-stabilized apartments in Upper Manhattan and his use of congressional stationery to solicit financial support for a City University center that will bear his name.

Rangel, 78, said he had asked the House ethics committee to investigate the issues surrounding the villa, which include his failure to pay taxes on the rental income and the resort developer's decision to waive the interest on a mortgage extended to him to buy the home. He had previously asked the committee to examine his rent-stabilized apartments and his fundraising for the City University center.

He also pledged to apologize if he is found to have violated House rules.

"I personally feel I have done nothing morally wrong," he said. Pressed about how, given his position and background, he could be ignorant of the tax rules, he answered: "I never had any idea that I got any income."

Rangel bought the beachfront house at the Punta Cana Resort & Club in 1988. The resort has emerged as one of the most desirable in the Caribbean."(snip)

Ok Melonie, you are purposely missing the point of the thread. Can you please just keep in line with the light-heartedness of the thread and not push your partisan bullshit for just one thread? We're trying to have a good time in here and you're really trying to continue to push your agenda. I, as the topic starter, am asking you to stop it.

Here are some more good ones from members of BOTH political parties

Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter." - President George W. Bush, in parting words to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy at his final G8 Summit, punching the air and grinning widely as the two leaders looked on in shock, Rusutsu, Japan, July 10, 2008

^^^ now that a little bit of 'balance' has been established, I have no problem whatsoever sitting on the sidelines. But if you reread this thread, you'll find that other than your opening post (which was 'balanced') most of the following posts were directed solely at GWB. Now there's no doubt that GWB has truly spoken some unbelievably stupid lines, but he's certainly not the only politician who does so regularly ! And I'll stick by my earlier post that I find House Ways and Means committee chairman Charley Rangel's statement 'I really don't believe making mistakes means you have to give up your career' as the funniest political quote of the year !!!

Also in the interest of correctness, I have to state that the quote attributed to Rep. Cohen was actually plagiarized from a Washington Post Blogger ...

And a 'parting shot' that just made me slap my boobs on the keyboard ...

“There’s something about this lady that scares the left senseless. As if the left wasn’t already senseless.” –Neal Boortz

    that's complete bullshit!!!!

I myself posted Dean and Sharpton PRIOR to your long partisian rant. There were quotes from Biden too and you yourself quoted Obama and Cohen PRIOR to your rant. It was not one sided at all and even if it was so what?!? There are more liberals here so it is not exactly an unexpected result.

Please just stick to funny or wacky quotes from ANY party and leave your fucking agenda at the door as requested. I mean for fucks sake Mel, it's only ONE thread we are asking for here.

The point was not to post balanced things each time. The point was to post funny things politicians have said. You did not do that for the most part. You pushed your agenda. Now, if you have FUNNY quotes to post that aren't all about your right wing feelings then please do so, if not, then please stay out of the thread. If you are having trouble figuring out what is acceptable in this thread what is not; if you can post it without your commentary explaining why it's funny to you (complete with snipped articles and links no less!), then post it. If not, then don't. Easy enough, right?
