    Post Working in Guam

As some of you know, I was curious about Guam only a week ago. Well, I decided to take the plunge and go for it!! I'm super excited!! I did read about some negative experiences, but also a lot good ones too. It just seems like a place that you need to go and find out for yourself. So that's what I'm doin'!

I just thought that I would restart a thread on Guam and journal my experience while I was there. That way, you guys could read my updates. This thread will be updated frequently, especially because the Club Links don't work. *pout*

So far, it has been great on the PDX side of things. Last week I was all nervous and wondering where I should go. I decided on Club G Spot in Guam because it seems like the nicest sounding club out of all the other options. I applied online (you have to send in your name and some pictures) and I got a response the next day! He called me later that evening as well. Chris answered all of my questions, even my very frank one's about "Why do you say housing is free on your site, and then in your contract its actually $5 a day??" He was very nice.

Here's the best part! When we talked about a date to leave, he let me pick whenever I wanted and I also got to choose what flight path I wanted. Well, I used to live in Japan and have a lot of friends there that I hardly ever get to see. So I asked him if I could get a flight through Tokyo and have the longest possible layover so I could hang out with my friends! He said sure! How cool is that?? He let me pick out my flight plan!

So now I have a flight booked to leave from Portland, OR to Tokyo, JP (with a 10 hour!! layover, yay!!) to Guam on September 28th. I will be there about three months, so back over New Years!

Now I just need to figure out how and what the hell to pack.... Any ideas?

You don't need to pack too many clothes, which is nice. The weather is extremely consistent -- humid and in the 80s. It can also wreak havoc on your electronics... I had to get my computer repaired when i was there b/c of the humidity! (Still using the same comp.)

When you are at the narita airport, find the little rooms-for-rent area... you can get a room with a shower and bed and stuff, very nice, for like $20 for 2 hours. I HIGHLY recommend this option!!! Though since you'll be meeting your friends, probably not a huge issue.

When you arrive in Guam and go through the gates, they might know you are coming to dance and search your stuff extra thoroughly for drugs etc. (Really, not many attractive girls come by themselves from mainland i suppose) I didn't have any trouble, probably because I'm filipino and I said I was visiting friends in Tumon Bay... but a couple girls who arrived after me said it was a bitch to go through there.

This is crazy... I went to Guam pretty much exactly the same time last year (2nd week of September). I was just talking about it with my housemates, how time flies!

ALSO --this is REALLY IMPORTANT -- make sure you can afford to come back home if you just decide it's not what you want to do. Make sure you have a credit card w/ enough line of credit on it. Have your mom promise to bail you out. Just something. I never had this feeling, but the idea of feeling trapped in Guam would be terrible!

Thanks you!! Especially for the packing advice. I hope they don't raid my suitcase...

Anyways, I just applied for my new passport today. O.o It had better come in time. I did the SUPER fast express shipping. Lol. Less then 2 weeks they said.

I've also decided to take some online school courses while I'm there. Do you think that will be a problem?

I'm thinking as far as dollar amounts go, I will post weekly. It's easier to keep track of then on a daily basis.

    17 days to go.... EEK!!

how did your trip go, LS?

Also for other ppl's future reference, 2 things that you should absolutely bring:

    CD's of your music!

Otherwise you gotta work with what they have. At least at G-Spot, you have 3 song sets many times in the night. Every single fucking night. At one point I got so bored I danced to "Apologize" 3x in a row. At least they let me end of the nite. LOL There is about one record store; small cheap chintzy mall type with terrible selection.

And FIRST AID KIT. You will be working so much that your knees will bleed, and other assorted ailments. Everything is VERY expensive in Guam. Neosporin is $8.99, deodorant $6.99, shit like that. Bring as much of yr own stripping supplies as you can. You will actually see your blush start to hollow out and you will use up a whole body spray in such a short period of time. It's amazing.
