Default Therapy.... massage, acupuncture, psych, etc.

I need some serious energy therapy and touch therapy...... and I figure a massage is a good place to start. There is a massage envy right down the road from me, and it's $39 for your first massage.... I was just wondering if it's a good deal.. I need a massage therapist who is energy-sensitive and female- Do you get to pick who your therapist is or is it just random?? I'm kind of wary because it's a chain, but I don't know how to go about locating a private practitioner, and I'm sure that would be way more expensive than 39/hour.

Anyone use massage envy? Good/bad experiences?

I have a membership there and have never had a problem(though the one I went to in Portland was less then stellar...the therapist talked WAY too much). In fact..the best therapist I have ever seen was a massage envy therapist...sadly she isnt there anymore.

If you decide to join it is $59 a month. You get 1 hr free for that(and it rolls over...so if you go a month without using it, you have 2 free hours the next month)and any massages you get after that are $39.

I used M.E. when I was desperate and my favorite place was booked up. I wanted a massage THAT DAY ( and hopefully that hour ). It was ok , but I'll admit my therapist didn't seem "present" ....
She did a good job,but I haven't gone back. You can pick a female therapist. You might want to call and describe what you after - they could probably recommend a few people.

Do you have a massage school near you ? You can get a student or someone who is recently graduated and it's very affordable. For schools, check the facility though . Some you get your own room and some are curtained off ( yuck ).

You can also try Craigslist. I see therapists who sometimes put up short notice discounts ect. on there.

CKXXX : Ugh .... the talking therapist. I'm getting bold now and the next time this happens ... I will ( ok ... I hope I will ) have the guts to ask for a silent massage.

good to know.... i'm looking up other massage clinics and I found an acupuncture clinic with a sliding scale!!!! The issues I'm dealing with currently are very touchy... i had an abortion so my hormones are all over hte place, i'm stressed because of domestic violence and an abusive relationship, and my immune system is low because of the stress and working in the club, and my foot is sprained from wearing the 7 inch shoes!!! All those things can be healed w/ acupuncture, massage and therapy.. but I will feel weird and uncomfortable telling people them. Do therapists judge you or refuse helping you because of things like that?? (being a stripper, having an abortion) This town is pretty liberal but I still feel weird.

^^I know what you mean. The last massage I had, I told them I was a prof dancer (feasible since we have an arts school nearby) because I had areas that required some special care (claves, ankle). I would so get massages from a qualified ex-dancer.

wish I could find an ex-stripper who's qualified to give me acupuncture and a massage........ gawd. I know you're supposed to be honest with your doctor/therapist to get the best treatment- but how are you supposed to be honest when you're scared they'll judge you, reject you or not give you the best treatment?? I hate lying.... I could say I'm a dance major at the school here... but then they would ask about what classes i'm taking and i'd have to research and lie lie lie.

Do you not know anyone studying massage at all? At my old home club here in PDX, I knew a girl who was studying massage while dancing. She actually always wanted to give me one b/c she needed the practice but I couldn't get out to her neighborhood. You could try asking around at work for dancer/massage therapists.

I'm pretty sure no one at my club is studying massage, but I talked to one girl who said she gets acupuncture for her dancing-related problems... but her therapist is an hour away and I don't want to drive that far.

He doesn't know that I dance, but my therapist could tell that I do a lot of working out . I put " moderate " on intake form activity level forever ago, but he said " most people put moderate when they work out 20 minutes 3 times a week " , you obviously spend time working out ". You can ask for special attention to your neck and back and you don't need to mention specific reasons why you need it. You can also ask for special attention to your abdomen and you could say it's for cramps or something. If you don't want to tell your secrets to your therapist , don't feel like you need to, you can get great healing without telling all.

But ... I guess in the subject of healing ... it would be awesome to just tell all ... I hope you find someone . I might ask around a lot at the club. There are about 15 girls where you are ( or more ) on this board. You might get a get a recommendation when someone reads this thread.

    Keira:
My step-father is a chiropractor currently with the Cafe of Life off the corner of Pearl and 28th, same area the TGI's used to be (can't remember the name of the restaurant that's there now).

Anyway, they also have massage therapists on site. He has done acupuncture as well although I'm not sure he still does that for patrons, but he could at least recommend someone for you.

I was in a pretty bad accident about a month ago where I totaled my jeep, separated my shoulder and put my neck out of place. He put me back together pretty good. He's all about finding the source of the issues, not just treating the symptoms.

If you would like more information please feel free to contact me via PM. I'm not trying to push his services or where he works, I just thought a recommendation may help you.

    Best of luck -
    Justin

I don't know a whole lot about Massage Envy except that I wish there was one out here so that I could get a job there.

Anyway, is there a massage school out by you that has a clinic? A student massage clinic may be even less than the going rate at Massage Envy. When I was in school I was practically booked solid during my clinicals.

It might be worth checking out.

I use massage envy and really love that I can get same day appointments. I'm not tied to any one therapist. Some are better than others and you can request your favorite once you have it figured out. You can also request male or female.

Massage is key! For energy restoration, I would recommend:

    Reiki
    Aura Clensing
    Chakra Balancing
    Acupuncture

Craigslist! You're in a plentiful spot for them. You can even make a post on CL with exactly what you're looking for.

If you mean like what practice involes energy, Reiki is a great. Reiki was discovered in japan, and helps w/ stress and its very relaxing. Reiki is an 'intelligent light' and helps people restore their "life force energy". (To do Reiki you have to be like 'reikiized' by a Reiki Master and you can trace your lineage to to the DR who discovered it.)

Its a like aura cleansing, where the person doing the session lays their hand over you slightly in certain areas or rests their hands lightly on the person.

$39 is a good rate for a massage.

Take massage therapy and subtract the "massage" part and you should be almost golden...

But if you go on CL for "massage therapy" maybe you'll get a happy ending! And couldn't everyone use a happy ending in their lives? Like a fairy tale!

I would advise you to visit an independent practitioner as opposed to the Massage Envy. You may pay a bit more, but chances are... it will be worth it. especially if you are looking for healer of sorts and cultivating a relationship with a therapist. Most local independent practitioners are successful because they have passion for thier craft and offer a variety of modalities to suit your needs. Why go to the "McDonalds of massage" when it is a more tailored experience that you are needing?

Perhaps you may want to also speak with a counselor who deals specifically with the procedure you had done recently. They should have Planned Parenthood out there somewhere I think.
