I haven't seen this scar situation addressed?

Hi, I am new to the site and I love this place! It is all so helpful. I thank the creator(s) of it!

    Anyway, down to business...

I am attempting to get a dancing job for the first time this weekend and I have a "patch" of scars on my outter right thigh. They are not very dark, but they are raised and very "shiny" on my transluscent skin.

I have been in SC stage lights before (a friend who was a dancer asked me to go on stage with her and "have fun" since it was my birthday)...so I got up there and did my thing and when I got down I asked asked my bf and our male friend what they had though. A comment was made that the scars were very noticable even in the dim lights.

I do not have the money to buy the Dermablend that everyone talks about right now. Maybe after I make some $ I can invest in it...

So, I am a little self concious about them now (not in general, just for dancing). They are from a few hard years in my life where I was a cutter. They are all very "perfect" (a showing of my OCD lol) and symetrical and in a square and stuff.

I know not tooo many guys would understand right away what they are from...but for those who do...I am nervous as to what to say.

And even for the ones who don't get it, I have no clue how I could "make up" a cool story for them. They are so precise and smooth that I don't think some "I was in a accendent" would really work and I don't know of any surgery that would cause 20-40 1"-4" scars in a 5x5" square area?

Any ideas for a story I could use until I can cover them better?

The place I am aiming to work is only topless so and ideas for a clothing "coverup" that would still look sexy and show my "assets"?

Any and all help would be loved! Thanks! =^.^=

On another note, I am not big on using makeup to cover them, I am not ashamed of them or anything, I just don't want them to be distracting and not have an "excuse" for them. I am not very comfortable telling some strangers about my past cutting and seem like I had a "troubled past" and throw off potential customers you know?

    Thanks!!!!

stockings! seriously! or if they are higher up- a little skirt would do nicely.

and honestly- if someone does comment- just tell the truth. shrug it off in a way that acknowledges the fact that it happened, but also lets them know you're beyond it. something like, 'yeah, i went through some rough spots that unfortunately made a more permanent impression than i would have liked...' and wrap it up with a positive statement & move on.

    good luck!

At my old club there was a girl who had road rash on her entire back from a car accident where she fell out.

Girl banked. Mainly because she had the best personality in the world - nobody cared.

So in the end, it really doesn't matter. Don't worry so much!

Or maybe you can just use ^that^ story. You were wearing shorts with a keyhole in them and got in an accident?

I have thigh high fishnet PVC topped white stockings that look really good in blacklight/stagelight like the place has so those are an option! I don't think a skirt would cover it very well because they run so far down my leg I would have to wear a regular mini skirt to cover them.

And I like the idea of letting people know I am "beyond" it! That is a great line I think...

    Thanks for your help!

I believe I have a very nice personality and I am hoping that will help aswell! I hove gotten the hang of brushing it off when people ask about them so I could use my personality to "move on" from that topic. (I am good at distractions...lol)

There are also cris-cross, full leg garters you can buy. A girl in my club always wears them. Or chaps.

+1 on the chaps... if you have some open-leg chaps (or can get some from a cheap sexy halloween costume) pair it with a little bandanna bra or something 'southern,' dance to "Mississippi Queen" & "American Woman," and you have an award-winning set.

That would actually go over very well here! And I already have a pair of black leather chaps with studs!

They come in all different colors too. Also, you can try some really thick drug store foundation like Maybelline dream matte mousse in a shade lighter than your skin. Slather it on, then once it's dry put powder that matches your skin over it. Works like a charm on my face. If you don't want the make-up to rub off, spray over it with hairspray.

That is really cute and I could work that into all my outfits! Thanks!

And does that hairspray thing really work? I have heard it before but I have never tried it.

Me too! I have a rather large and ugly scar on my inner thigh from a motorcycle accident that I'm a little self conscious about getting up on stage and showing off. I could wear thigh highs or a garter but I have to wear them up a little higher than I normally would in order to cover the scar. Do I risk looking like I bought the wrong sized stockings or from what I'm reading just not worry about the scar? Unfortunately it's going to be really in their face at times but maybe it will be a good ice breaker...

Yeah, it works. Just make sure you get the highest strength hair spay. (I find that the cheapie ones work best.) Make sure it's not alcohol free. Also, don't put lotion on that spot, any type of oil will cause it to smear with or without hairspray. I hairspray my eyeshadow every night. I'm very particular with it and I put a lot of work into my eye makeup, so I make sure it doesn't come off.

I'd put the dream matte mousse on, let it dry, blot lightly with tissue. Apply the powder, blot lightly, then spray with hair spray (not a spritz bottle, that'll get the makeup too wet. Use one that sprays out a mist) let it dry, apply a bit more spray and let that dry, then blot. Reapply hairspray every few hrs.

    Hey OP:

I actually have the same type of scars in the same area, as well as a bunch on my inner thigh, and the only person who ever asked about them was another dancer in the DR under the bright makeup lights. So don't worry about them, seriously. However, if someone were to ask, I always imagined that I'd play dumb and be like, "What scars? Oh those. I got scratched one time." And if necessary, distract them with a cooler scar, e.g. "But I got this one when I was having sex on some bleachers, and this one when I tried to surf in Hawaii." So I'd recommend not talking about your past difficulties, because I don't think it would be conducive to buck$.
Drought was over. Where was I? Drinks were on the house.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing as far as it messing with the $ a little. And I DO have a kinda icky scar on my lower back from having sex on a wooden bench in a park at night! lol That would work!

Yeah, honestly, it's the power of suggestion. People generally believe what they are told unless it's totally outlandish. Just make up a story and stick to it....What's sqaure shaped and sharp? the only thing I can think of is like a plant potter or something. You could always say you were playing football in the back yard as a kid with your friends and got tackled on top of a plant potter. That said I have a bunch of scars (guess I'm accident prone!) and nobody ever notices.

I remember when I used to cut, I'd always get upset with myself because I thought I'd never be sexy or get to wear cute little clothing because of my scars. I'm so glad I was wrong!

If for some reason someone asked, I'd make up some crazy story, 'oh yeah, I was burnt with a spatula at a BBQ!' Something like that... if they don't believe you, who cares? That's what I do, and while I get a lot of sideways looks, it's better than someone giving me some awkward sympahetic/sad look.

All this talk is really helping me settle the nerves I had about the scars! Thanks everyone! I have 1,000,000x more confidence now!

Go get a bottle of Sally Hanson "Airbrush Legs". It's $8 or $9 at Walgreens. It's magic! It sprays on (aerosol), you'll love it.

Or, just wear an itty-bitty skirt that covers them.

since the way you describe them seems like they are in a pattern, why not just say that theyre a body modification, like a tattoo. a girl i used to dance with had a heart branded on her chest, and alot of people thought it was really neat.
