Default What Were You Doing On 9/11?

They say everyone remembers where they were when they heard of the attacks of 9/11.

What were YOU doing that morning?

I remember it clear as day, and can't believe it's been 7 years. I woke up, signed onto AOL, and saw the headline. This was JUST after the 1st plane hit. I turned on the news immediatly, and was actually watching when the 2nd plane hit - saw it live, and thought I must be dreaming.

An hour later, my Mom and I drove to the doctor's office. I was about 6 weeks pregnant with my first daughter. Saw her on the ultrasound for the very first time, saw her little heart beating...I'll never forget it. The connection bewteen life/death, that's something that sticks out so much in my mind. All the lives that were being taken that morning, and seeing the one inside of me. It was so surreal.

1/2 of the doctor's office didn't even know what had happened yet (they hadn't turned the TV's on yet). It was very surreal, telling the U/S tech and the doctor what happened. Total panic in the office. Of course, we spent the rest of the day glued to the TV, as I'm sure everyone else did.

    Let's hear your story.

    I like your story.^^

I was working at AOL, that was the only day in the 4 years I worked there they let everyone leave. My husband came to pick me up an hour after it happened and they asked me to stay. Then he had to come bk after word that the second plane hit. There ws nothing on tv for like a week, it was so surreal, and I am subconsciously terrified to this day , of a terrorist attack.

I was in the bathroom of a hotel in Islamorada Fl, getting ready to go to Key West for the day. My husband was watching Jerry Springer when he said that a plane flew into the World Trade Center. My first thought was, how horrible, but I kept getting ready. A few minutes later he said another one had, that's when we realized that something was wrong.

I remember driving down to the Key West and not being able to find any music on the radio. One quote I'll never forget is someone saying it was an "orgy of terrorism". The whole vibe in Key West was off that day. When our group sat down for lunch, when we would usually be drinking it up and laughing, we sat ans ate with out eyeseglued to the TVs.

I had just moved to Brooklyn 10 days prior. I was sleeping when my girlfriend in the city woke me and me sis up with the news. My sis ran to the TV to put on NY1. It was so unreal. I had a job interview scheduled in like an hour. Obviously my job search was over for the month.

I was awoken by the fact schoolchildren outside my window were yelling because the bus never showed up. I started cursing at the kids outside my window and then grumbled and turned the TV on. I just saw the second plane hit when I did. I looked out the window again and all the kids had gone deathly silent. A parent had pulled up to them and explained what was going on - there was no school.

heard the news on the radio as my alarm that day.

my daughter turned on the tv for her Clifford the big red dog fix and no clifford on tv.

then she heard the magic words to make her perk up and pay attention "navy carriers" . She knew Mommy was Navy, so that got her attention quick, my kid spent the whole terrified Mommy would be called up. I was pregnant with her sister when 9/11 happened.

I skipped out on work and stood in line to give blood.

About a month later I got told I was laid off from my job. Haven't been able to get one in Aviation since that happened.

I was getting ready to take my aerobics class (hey an easy A lol) and I saw it happening on the news. A bunch of kids around me were crying..I kept getting ready for class. My teacher came down and told us due to the event that happened class was cancelled.

I remember honestly thinking, "what the big deal" considering we bomb places every day and no one bats an eye.

I may be one of the few who doesn't ball out and cry on 9/11. Oh, which reminds me..today is my friends b-day.

I was working in a warehouse driving a forklift. There was just a small group of us that worked there. My husband called to tell us about the plane hitting. It was terrible but at that point no one knew it was terrorism or that the building would collapse. We didn't have TV but we stayed on the internet trying to glean information off the news sites. It's the first time I can ever remember the internet updating alot slower than TV casts. Until the second plane hit, everyone still worked and just checked in to see what was going on. By the time the first building collasped, we were at a complete standstill watching with the rest of the world. I think it took hours before the true horror sunk in.

I was in middle school at the time and just remember when the teacher turned on the TV and that was going on. I really don't remember much that day.

It was really weird. A water pipe burst at my high school (9th grade) that morning so we all got sent home.

I went to the mall with a bunch of my friends and we saw a big crowd gathered by the TVs at an appliance store. We all just stood there with everyone in silence, watching the news.

I was in grade 10 science class and it was announced over the PA. When he started saying that the school would not be evacuated....... "yet" I was scared and had no idea what the hell was going on.

I was teaching my period 1 class when another teacher told me the first tower was hit. I got a TV in time to see the second tower get hit. Spent the whole day watching television with my classes.

On the way home, I stopped to donate blood. Had to wait 90 minutes to do it.

A few days later there was a bomb scare at school and while outside we discussed the fact that at least one of those Boston planes probably flew within eyesight of the school on its way to NYC.

I was in Valparaiso, Chile. September 11th is the anniversary of their 1973 Military Coup, so the day was already significant and the atmosphere tense. My Chilean roomate got me out of my room to look at it on the television, my Spanish was still very basic so it took a while for the picture of what was actually happening to clear up.
It does annoy me a little when I hear the Chilean Coup referred to as "the other 9/11".

sitting in bed watching the late news. The first plane hit soon after it came on and then the news went live. I woke the boyfriend of the time up and he was like "so what, leave me alone" so i got up and went next door to my mums to continue watching. The second plane hit and my friend / previous ex rang to tell me about it and we chatted for a while and watched speculating.
I always remember it as almost the end of one relationship as we split not long after.

I had that day off from work. I got up around 7:30 in the morning my time (8:30 NYC time) and for whatever reason got on the Playstation. The game was a casino game called "Vegas Games 2000". I played for an hour and a half. I remember putting my eyes on the wall clock as I turned the Playstation off. It said 9:10. When I turned it off, the channel was on NBC. I saw the burning north tower of the WTC. The south tower had already collapsed. I watched the north one come down twenty minutes later.

Sans a couple of phone calls to relatives (who were nowhere near NYC), I pretty much sat transfixed to the television all day. I remember even the non-news channels suspending their broadcasts. Around four in the afternoon, I finally got out and drove over to my brother's house. On the way, I passed several gas stations, and there seemed to be a near panic setting in because people thought gas was going to shoot to $5/gallon.

I was in 12th grade and heading over to my History Class, when my friend stopped me in the hall and told me about the first plane hitting but I didn't really think of it until I got to class and the teacher had the news on and the second plane hit. We got out of school early that day and I went over to my boyfriend's and then I had to go to work. The restuarant I worked at was like the only place still open and we were dead.

I was asleep until my Mom called ten times in a row and woke me up. I remember oversleeping my trip to Chinatown that morning and that kept my black ass off the PATH train when I normally would have gone. My train runs or ran under the towers. They chose my city to hold the bodies in Liberty State Park (adjoined to the Statue of Liberty's park). So all you saw was a huge black stack of smoke for weeks and a flood of people looking shell shocked and crying. I commuted at 5 am from work in NY and I remember the guys who worked my newstand five stories down who would keep me company and let me read the magazines until my train came. I realize they probably didn't make it out since they were the openers and they were so far down.

It was during my summer vacation, i had another week or so before starting college, so i was sleeping in. i woke up at aroung noon or so, turned on the tv and saw that every channel was news footage of the attacks. It took me a while to really realize what was going on. All my friends who were still in high school didn't get out until regular scheduled time and they sai all they did that day was watch the news coverage on tv.

I was sitting in French class in my junior year. We watched the news as I'm sure the rest of the school did too. My teacher tried to teach class but it was useless our minds were on the planes crashing.

...was putting on my makeup getting ready to go shopping in town, the "Today" show was on in the background.
Saw the first plane hit and dropped my MAC compact onto the floor shattering it.
I thought: "Naw...this is just a fluke" like my brain wasn't processing what my eyes were actually seeing.

Hubby was in the shower and when the 2nd one hit,I screamed and pulled open the shower door...he was all upset and I screamed at him what had happened. He grabbed a towel and we stood there glued to the TV with his arms around me,I couldn't stop watching or sobbing all day.

I will never forget how empty and helpless I felt. My thoughts and prayers are still with all who suffered that day.
