There is barely a hint of wind here!
Glad to hear it. Sounds like Houston is getting seriously slammed though. And some levees have broken in LA![]()

We are all good in South Texas but the GalvestonHouston area is a f-ing mess.
Gas had already gone over 4 dollars a gallon here, this is gonna' be hard for many people.
The costs of this storm will be staggering and there is simply no place for people to go "back to" as thousands are without power...

It's just windy and rainy here, but I'm worried about my in-laws in Houston.![]()

I was just reading the news reports. It looks like all of Houston is without power! Galveston is thrashed and they are using the word "destroyed" to refer to I-45. I hope everyone in Houston is safe and has water, and will talk to us soon.

I hope everyone is okay!

Yeah, I'm a little north of Austin and we haven't seen much action. Wind and drizzle on and off. I kinda want to work tonight but I guess I'll stay home since I'd hate to get stuck in the middle of a huge storm if we do get one.
It looks as if it's heading for Dallas right now so I hope all of the Dallas people are ok too!

So far nothing has heppened here other than a few drizzles here and there but not much.

It's been pouring rain......ALL DAMN DAY. Windy as hell. Dark. Gloomy. I thought my patio set was going to end up in the lake.
And...whatever kind of pressure is going on in the air, is creating a HORRIBLE headache, above my eyes and in the back of my skull. No pain pill in this house is even touching it. I'm miserable. Someone come cuddle me.![]()

It hasn't rained one drop here! Im in Keller/Ft worth. I thought at least we'd have storms.

We are in Houston and the city is totally trashed. 3 million people are without power, somehow we got lucky and ours came back on an hour ago.
Our fence was knocked down by a neighbor's oak tree falling down but that's really all that was damaged. A lot of our neighbors have trees on their houses/cars and their roofs destroyed.
The winds were so scary last night! 12 hours of 80-110 mph winds was a nightmare. I just hope everyone and their pets are safe now.
Ugh the news is saying many people can expect to be without power for 4 weeks or longer....

^That sounds horrible I would have freaked out really bad if that was happening here.

That is what they are saying... La Porte, Kemah, Texas City and Bay Cliff are flooded. Lots of debris/down power lines and trees in League City. Power is back on for us though (League City). There are reports of looting in the 4th and 5th ward (No big surprise there) But all in all Houston has faired well against Ike so no worries ladies.

That's good you could finally reach them. It's so hard worrying and not knowing.
I know I feel so bad for all the people that lost everything. In other sad Hurricane Ike related news, a Houston-area father accidently killed his 10 year old boy while he was preparing his yard for the storm. He cut down a dead tree and it fell on his son. Ugh, I can't imagine how awful that feels...

I just saw that! That's just horrible. Poor guy!

everyone i know is fine and didn't suffer much damage.

...in Houston, mostly wind related damage from trees & some lowland road/creek flooding. All i see around here is tree limbs, plastic signs and shingles on the ground. One high rise downtown lost a lot of glass windows. It gets worst going south of Houston. IH45 is OK. There was one spot on IH45 near Galveston where boats and trash washed up on the road. It was cleared by bulldozers the next day. Conroe up north is OK. Katy is OK. Electricity was out in Beaumont. They had some stronger winds. A radio station in Beaumont says the damage is similar to Houstons. The storm surge never could make it into Beaumont or Houston. Electricty went out about 2:30AM and the 80+mph gusty winds happened about 5:00AM.
That 2 million people without power could include people to the south of Houston and Beaumont. Many gas stations south cant pump gas because they are closed/no power, stores are closed or are low on food, both because of the mad rush before the storm hit. Some cities south have contaminated water or shut the water down. Houstons water in some areas is just now getting pressure up. It trickles out the facet today. Few people are bathing or flushing, i'm sure. Many outlying roads have debris in the way. Houston and outlying areas are under night curfew. The port area refineries (many standing down) produce about 1/4 of nations oil related product so we'll see how that affects gas prices.
Supposedly, reporters say 40% of people stayed in Galveston. I find that % hard to believe. The real damage was on Galveston island and maybe 10 miles inland. Outside those areas up north, looks like small property damage but relatively little loss of life so far.
Damn media is hyping up every twig and puddle of water instead reporting on the real problems.
