Default ITT i plead for your make-up help ... again

this thread is for you girls that love giving tailored make-up advice. i know you exist! there are tons of you in my dressing room, but i'd rather type my question to "strangers". i'm a dork
so, if you read this and help me out i will love you FOREVERZ! here goes:

about a year or so ago i decided to give up the whole liquid foundation + powder routine. i just got tired of all that heavy crap on my skin. i switched to tinted moisturizer and have been using the stilla brand since. i like it, but sometimes i want a little more coverage. i'm also just sort of tired of the brand. i still -like- it, i just have commitment phobias. being that my last tube is almost empty, what should i try now?

i'm interested in stuff that's not so full of chemicals -and- is hypoallergenic (i have sensitive skin). i don't really have break-out problems (knock on wood) cept for when i have PMS. my skin is your fairly normal/typical "combination". it has it's oily spots (around the bottom of my nose) and it's dry ones (my cheeks). if i had to lean toward one word or the other, i'd say it's more dry than oily. my biggest "flaws" are that i have super dark circles (just genetics) and i tend to get redness sometimes in the dryer areas.

i don't want anything super heavy (as stated) and i really dislike the fake totally matte look. i mean, it's ok on other people, it's just not for me. i used to hate my freckles, but i like them now, and that sort of thing makes them go bye-bye. i'm -interested- in bare minerals, but i've heard mixed reviews and it's sooo expensive for "everything". any alternatives that you like? or this shit really worth it? i've read threads on it before, but i'm still in the air. is it really "all natural"? also, does it LAST a long time? i don't mean on your skin, i mean do you use it all up fairly quick or get a lot of use out of it? that would make a big difference where price is concerned.

i'm not just "stuck" on the bare minerals thing either, other suggestions for different brands of tinted moisturizers would be great too. or, anything else you want to say for that matter.

    THANX HOMESLICES.

also: IF i decide to do the bare minerals thing.... are the "starter kits" worth it (as in, a good value) or am i going to get a bunch of crap i won't use? or am i better off just buying X and X?

Jane Iredale makeup all the way.

    http://www.janeiredale.com/

I hated Bare Minerals. It was half as good as this stuff. Plus, the damn kit lasted about ONE MONTH. Ahh theres not enough bad stuff to say about it! Made me break out everywhere.

I have been using Jane Iredale for 4 years now and it covers EVERYTHING without looking so made up. It lasts SO LONG too. I had really bad acne when I started using it, and it totally covered and cleared it right up

I've heard good things about Everyday Minerals on MUA. They say its a great alternative to BE. I've never tried it, I don't do mineral foundations except for MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Naturals which you may want to have a look at. I like that they are in compact form vs loose powder.

If you want to try foundation again, I suggest grabbing some samples. I like MUFE (Make Up For Ever) Face & Body because its pretty sheer, but you can add more layers where you need it w/o looking mask-y. I know I rec this to everybody but it really is a universal product, works for pretty much everyone. You could also try their HD. If you want to spend some money, maybe Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk.

Have you tried Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer? There is the regular formula, the oil free and the illuminating. She also has a Mineral Powder Foundation/Finishing Powder but I have never tried it (mineral make-up doesn't really work for me..except MSF).

i've been hearing good things about mercier's tinted moisturizer....

can you use a finishing powder over it, or would that get all cakey?

I concur with these suggestions! The MUFE face and body is extremely sheer and can leave me shiny after applying so using their translucent powder to finish is a must. Both are not heavy at all.

Totally off topic: MUFE looks like muff to me- like the same kind of muff as in "muff-diving" so every time you guys mention MUFF face it makes me giggle.

    I'm so mature.

My favorite combination would be the Tinted Moisturizer with LM's Secret Camouflage concealer (where and if needed) and the LM Setting Powder in translucent (that way it does not interfere with the Tinted Moisturizer's color at all and doesn't look cakey) with a large synthetic brush (her complexion brush is good). Can you tell I used to be a MUA for the line?

Actually, right now Sephora is selling a Laura Mercier 'flawless face' kit for $65 that includes primer, tinted moisturizer, concealer, translucent setting powders and some brushes (concealer brush, powder brush, a velour puff and a blending egg). Damn, I may have to order this.

    I STRONGLY SUGGEST Everyday Minerals!!
    https://www.everydayminerals.com/
You can get a sample kit very cheaply and easily. It may take you one or two sample kits to find a foundation shade that matches, but probably not, since you can pick three to sample from, and mix those together. The foundation comes in four different types:

Original Glo = Healthy dewy glow
    Semi-Matte = A soft luminous touch
    Matte = Radiant without shine
    Intensive = Extra coverage

I use the intensive, and it works wonderfully for me. Also check out the concealers - the multi-tasking is wonderful, as is the sunlight (I use this for undereye circles) and the mint (for redness). You get a concealer with the sample kit, I do believe.

When I wear this it does not feel like I have anyting on my skin, and it looks really really natural. I can't rec this stuff enough.

However, on the other side of the coin, I am not seriously working atm, and I don't know how well this would hold up after a particularly long evening. I suggest getting the sample kit or two and trying it out.

    Best of luck!!

ETA: If you feel so inclined, the flat top brush they offer is the BEST. It's such a great powder foundation brush!!

I'm all about natural stuff too, but it seems to be hit and miss with these type of products. Let us know if you find a good one!

Since you are so pale, like me, it is hard to find a mineral powder that doesnt make you yella. I quit it after wasting a bunch of money on it.

Bobbi Brown has AWESOME foundation. They will have a colour that matched your skin tone perfectly. Their counters are usually ats Saks or Neiman's.

For summer, I used Lancomes tinted moiturizer. It has the perfect amount of coverage and cancels out any crazy redness. I don't think they make that in PALE colours though.

I love Stila, but have never liked their tinted moisturizers coverage.

With winter coming up, I don't know where you live, you are going to want something a little thicker to keep your skin moisturized.

that's interesting, about the mineral powders. i am -hella- pale. the pic in my avatar is washed out because it's a webcam shot, but the pic in my sig is my actual skin color.

and that's just it, i like stilla and it's the right tone, there's just times when i need a little more coverage. :/

i'm also for mercier's tinted moisturizer. i use the tinted moisturizer and the loose powder over it. it doesn't have a make-upy look to it at all (which i also hate). it doesnt cover any little blemishes really really well, but her secret camouflage (a concealer) is really great. i get a few pimples and use the secret camouflage just for the pimples to cover them completely. it comes in a two palate type thing that you blend to match your skin tone and you use the brush to blot lightly over any imperfection and voila! it disappears.

i highly recommend it. i'm also really really pale and it matches my skin tone perfectly and i've never had problems w/ break outs from it. and it never looks cakey.

so i went ahead and got the laura mercier flawless face starter kit. i've only used it once so far (yesterday). i really like it except for one thing.... it does nothing for my under eye circles. i used the secret camo stuff and it covered them a tiny bit, but they were still way dark. am i doing something wrong? what should i do?

i like the amazing brand concealer, but it's sooooooooooo fucking expensive (40 something a tube) and it gets kind of cakey......

To cover dark circles under eyes, you need a yellow or peach-tone concealer.

the only thing that came close was that "amazing" stuff, but like i said... sooo thick. :/

MAKEUP FOREVER, MAKEUP FOREVER, MAKEUP FOREVER. Their 'face and body liquid makeup' is the absolute BEST foundation!!!! And I've tried everything from Lancome, Armani, and Dior - who all make quality stuff too.

A single layer of 'face and body liquid makeup' gives great coverage yet is SOOO LIGHT, so it truly looks/feels like theres nothing on your skin. And you can add extra layers for more coverage if desired, without looking cakey. It's oil free, and won't irritate your skin.

For a creamier, more intense coverage, MUFE's 'matt velvet' is good too.

Makeup Forever pretty much does no wrong.

But I was really dissapointed with their new 'hd' foundations. I apply makeup like a pro - fancy brushes and all, but no matter what, it's one of those 'I can tell you're wearing foundation' foundations. And it didn't soften my imperfections as it claims. If anything, it emphasized them.

The colorless hd powder is BOMB though!

I have terrible, relentless dark circles. I use a warmer toned concealer (for example MAC NW25) and then I used a concealer in my normal color (my skin has a natural olive-yellow tone) such as MAC NC20 over it. It actually works really effectively for me.

Bare mineral works really well for me. I would use it every day and it lasted me a good 2-3 months. It made my skin look flawless( I got sooo many compliments on it) and I have sensitive skin... and my skin improved so much once I stopped using liquid foundation and started using bare minerals. I never even bought the starter kit, I just got the foundation powder and that always covered any blemishes and it really made my skin look soooo soft.
I recently switched to another mineral powder called "Bella Terra" it works pretty good... keeps my skin looking even and smooth but it doesnt make my skin "glow" like bare minerals did... so I'm gonna switch back once this runs out. although I bought it 2 months ago and the little jar thing is still half-full.
